I stared at him in a daze.

Watched as he rose to his feet.

Watched as he clasped his hands behind his back and walked up to me.

Then he reached out and gripped my chin.

Forcing me to look straight into his eyes.

“You are right. People can indeed die at any moment. As long as one is human, one has desires. You want to live the life of an ordinary person. I can understand that. Over the years, you have saved me many times as well. If I refused even this small request, I would seem rather inhumane. So be it.”

Only a roomful of secret guards remained.
