The Seductress and Her General - Chapter 3
It felt as though I had waited half a day before I finally heard Gu Rongfeng’s slow footsteps approaching.
Hunger burned in my belly. I couldn’t help using a secret Hehuan technique from my previous life, desperately scraping together the tiniest trace of true qi in this mortal body. Then, as though guiding a little drop of water, I sent that warm, hair-thin current flowing through my meridians.
It was like drinking poison to quench my thirst.
The more I soothed myself, the more yang energy I would need afterward.
And the more desperately I wanted Gu Rongfeng to get here.
The moment I heard him lift the door curtain, I eagerly reached out, using one of my old tricks to seduce him.
Oddly, Gu Rongfeng didn’t rush over for a little tender intimacy. He stopped dead, then moved off to the side.
“Husband?” I asked, puzzled. Thinking back over my hurried review of their relationship, I decided I probably hadn’t been gentle enough. He didn’t yet believe I wanted to mend things between us.
So I called even more softly, downright seductively, “Husband, I’ve missed you so much.”
“My heart is beating so fast. Come and take a look for me. Or have a listen?” I pressed on.
When he still didn’t respond, I gritted my teeth and raised my voice.
“Husband, the nights are so long. Without you beside me, I simply can’t sleep.”
At last, someone lifted my bed curtains.
I smiled up at Gu Rongfeng from beneath my lashes.
He was even better looking than in the memories.
He looked down at me. The shadow beneath the curtains hid his face, making his expression impossible to read.
I waved my arm at him. Gu Rongfeng glanced at the movement, considered for a few moments, then slowly closed his hand around my wrist.
It was hardly an intimate pose. In fact, it was awkward, more like a restraining hold.
But hot, surging yang energy traveled up from the close contact of our skin, and I drew it into my dantian.
My icy belly warmed a little.
I couldn’t help sighing in pleasure.
Gu Rongfeng, who had been expressionless, suddenly shuddered. His perpetually knitted brows drew even tighter.
“What are you doing?”
I didn’t answer. My slender fingers caught his collar and slowly slipped inside.
I gazed at him, intoxicated. “What do you think I’m doing, husband?”
His face darkened. He seized my downward-roaming hand and shoved me away.
I landed against the soft pillow, utterly baffled.
Unfortunately, Zhao Wanyu’s body had recovered only a fraction of its strength. All I could do was watch that lean, powerful waist recede. He seemed to be holding the handkerchief I’d coughed blood into.
“Husband?”
Bang! The door flew open.
I heard several startled cries.
Gu Rongfeng sneered and flung the handkerchief into someone’s face outside.
“Useless at tending your mistress, but very good at eavesdropping, aren’t you?”
Steel rang as a blade was drawn. One scream followed another.
“Listen in on your masters again, and I’ll cut the ears off the rest of you and feed them to the dogs.”
His voice was utterly cold.
Curiosity had just brought me out of bed. Hearing that, I wondered whether what I was doing counted as eavesdropping on Gu Rongfeng and the servants.
Without hesitation, I decided to get back into bed and pretend I knew nothing. But the instant I moved, Gu Rongfeng came back through the door, and we found ourselves staring at each other.
From his hideously scarred neck down to his cuffs, scattered blood spots grew denser, until they became a line of blood dripping from his fingertips.
He held a short sword in his right hand and a severed ear in his left. Dripping blood, he looked like a villain about to embark on a massacre.
My gaze traveled from his blood-soaked hands to those cold eyes, apparently devoid of desire.
I couldn’t help licking my lower lip.
This one had some kick to him.
I pressed a hand to my chest and swayed like a frail willow in the wind. Then I held both arms out to him.
“Husband, I’m so frightened of blood. Oh, my legs have gone weak. I’m going to fall. Hurry, catch me!”
I staggered and toppled headfirst against Gu Rongfeng’s chest.
His breathing rose and fell. He wouldn’t even put a palm on me. He caught my waist in the crook of his arm, supported me with one arm, and dumped me onto the bed.
I cried out in pain.
The villain ignored me. With his back turned, he bent over a bronze basin to wash his hands.
I ground my teeth. If I hadn’t been reduced to this, stripped of all my cultivation, I’d have fled this miserable place and this living King of Hell ages ago. I could throw a brick into Chang’an Street, hit ten men, and eight would willingly give me their yang energy.
The other two would be blind.
I propped myself up. The little yang energy I’d absorbed during that brief contact was almost gone again.
My whole body turned cold. All I could hear was my own hurried breathing and the pounding of my heart.
“Gu Rongfeng… don’t go…”
I struggled to get the words out, but they were so faint that I wasn’t sure even I could hear them.
Through my blurring vision, I watched Gu Rongfeng finish washing his hands and leave without looking back.
I reached after him with all my strength and uttered what I believed were my last words in this world.
“Gu Rongfeng… fuck you…”
My eyes closed, and I collapsed onto the bed. My final thought was:
In my next life, I would find him.
Because I was going to suck that bastard into a dried-up husk if it killed me!
