Chapter 2

The Ruined District was basically a corner the law had forgotten.

It was chaotic and lawless here. You survived by your fists, and only barely.

Even though I had lost my memories, I could still memorize the tangled network of alleys here very quickly.

Outside, the cold wind cut to the bone. It was nowhere near as warm and gentle as it was indoors.

I tightened my collar and glanced back at the door, still a little uneasy. Then I turned and left.

It wasn’t that I suspected Qiewen, but some stories couldn’t be taken from only one person’s telling.

In the Ruined District, the underground taverns and black markets were the easiest places to get information.

As long as you had money, you could buy anything.

I lowered my eyes and took the gold jewelry from my pocket, turning it over again and again.

It was a bracelet made of pure gold, set with a stone that gave off a faint glow.

The stone had been shaped into a crescent moon. It was beautiful.

Even when I was on the verge of death, I had protected it against my chest.

I had thought it was a gift for Qiewen, but there was a note on the box. The recipient’s name had three characters.

Because it had been soaked in water, though, I could no longer make it out.

Maybe it had been meant for someone important. Unfortunately, I had lost my memories now, and after all this time, no one had come looking. There was no real need to keep the gift anymore.

For some reason, whenever I looked at the bracelet, an overwhelming sadness seemed to crash down on me, leaving me almost unable to breathe.

I would just consider it paving the way to recovering my memories. After all, I barely had any money on me right now.

I composed my expression.

The sooner I sold it, the sooner my heart would be at peace.

On the way back, I could even bring Qiewen some of the seafood he liked.

Chapter 4

“Oh my, if it isn’t my precious darling~”

Hot breath brushed against my ear. I turned my face and saw a provocatively dressed male incubus standing at the entrance of the neon-lit tavern.

His wine-red hair curled at the ends, and every shift of his eyes was full of seductive allure. He had broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and beneath his shirtless suit jacket, a silver body chain glimmered faintly across his chest.

Expressionless, I nodded and tried to take a step back to avoid the incubus’s enthusiastic embrace.

But it was as if he had known I would do that. Smiling, he stepped forward as well, landing the hug perfectly.

I was nearly suffocated before he finally let go.

I coughed a few times. Sensing that the floral scent of incubus around me had faded quite a bit, I said, “Sela, I’m only here to buy some information. I don’t want to do anything else.”

Aside from his main line of work, this incubus also had another identity: information broker.

“Pfft. You’re still so cute.”

Sela gave a soft laugh, his dark purple eyes shimmering beautifully beneath the neon lights.

Even after being rejected, his long, slender black tail still persevered and wrapped itself around my waist. “As it happens, there’s news about what you’re looking for. Come in and have a drink. You have to keep me company a little longer this time, okay?” As he spoke, he had already pushed the door open for me before I could.

A strange sort of tacit understanding.

Just then, several employees hurried out. “Sir! That young master is here again! He insists on seeing you!”

“Sir?”

My brow twitched, and I turned to look at him.

Wasn’t he supposed to be some down-on-his-luck star host working hard to get by?

And also, which young master?
