The hero was heading for Suzhou.

I searched my memory for a long time but couldn’t recall who might be waiting there. The original novel was long and packed with countless minor events. If I couldn’t remember this one, it probably wasn’t important.

When we set out the next day, Situ Qianyin gave me two unusually long looks.

As I wondered why, he said, “Put away your dragon horns.”

I lowered my head in shame. “I don’t know how.”

“…”

After a speechless pause, he stepped in front of me and raised a hand. He seemed to cast a spell, but I felt nothing.

I touched the top of my head. The horns were still there, so I looked up at him in confusion.

The system’s voice suddenly burst into my mind. 【Yes, exactly! Keep gazing at him all cute and innocent. Send his heart rate straight to one-eighty.】

“…”

What a lunatic.

Situ Qianyin explained, “An illusion. Other people can’t see them.”

“Oh.” I nodded solemnly. “Thank you, Brother Qianyin.”

【What kind of name is that? I nearly died of secondhand embarrassment. Call him Husband next time.】

Situ Qianyin showed no particular reaction to the address. He merely hummed in acknowledgment.

Since no one else could see my horns, I lowered my hood and hurried after him.

Despite saying we were going to Suzhou, he didn’t seem to be in a rush. We traveled the old-fashioned way, walking and stopping whenever we pleased.

I had no desire to offend such an untouchable big shot, so I was especially cautious around him. Most of what I said consisted of shameless compliments.

He remained distant, but compared with the vigilance and frost of our first meeting, his attitude had softened considerably.

After behaving itself for a few days, the system started causing trouble again.

I was walking a few paces behind Situ Qianyin, admiring an unfamiliar flower I had picked by the roadside. I had never seen anything so lovely. Its petals faded through shades of purple and seemed unique to this world.

The system mocked me. 【You’ll stare at some worthless flower all day, but you won’t look at your husband? Go seduce him already.】

“Stop talking nonsense.”

【I’m dying of impatience. You’ve known each other for days and you still aren’t dating.】

Then it issued an order. 【Go up there and make him hold your hand.】

“Do you have any idea how rude that would be?”

I couldn’t possibly do such a thing.

【Tell him. If he refuses, I’ll shock him.】

I stared in disbelief. “Electric Eel, you’re being completely unreasonable.”

【Are you going or not? If not, I’ll shock someone anyway.】

My heart jumped. “Me?”

【Him. Let him guess why.】

I had never met such a shameless scoundrel. With no other option, I tucked the flower into my pocket, quickened my pace, and came alongside Situ Qianyin.

I looked at him several times, wanting to speak but losing my nerve.

Before I could make up my mind, he said, “Speak.”

“Brother Qianyin,” I began hesitantly, “this road is a little difficult. Could you… hold my hand and lead me?”

He looked at the broad, perfectly level road ahead. “Which part is difficult? I’ll repair it.”

I choked.

“Actually, my feet hurt. Walking is hard.”

As I spoke, I pinched his sleeve between two fingers and gave it a discreet tug, hoping he would understand.

Danger! Agree, or that electroshock maniac will get you!

The male lead refused to yield to pressure. He folded his arms. “We’ll ride.”

【How dare you! Nan Xu offers you his soft little hand, and you don’t drop to your knees in gratitude?】

Situ Qianyin’s expression changed. The system had shocked him again.

I felt sorry for him—and terrified he would take revenge on both of us afterward.

So I simply reached out, seized his hand, and held on as if everything were perfectly natural. “Thank you, Brother Qianyin.”

“…”

After a long silence, he chose not to pull away. He merely resumed walking, my hand still in his.
