The Tentacle Monster I Brought Home Always Says It Wants to Fix My Bones at Night - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
I rummaged through the third cabinet and pulled out an old-fashioned tablet.
There was only one interface on the screen.
TERMINATION PROGRAM: CONFIRM EXECUTION.
The conditions for confirmation were written clearly.
Live connection of the Main Sample, or highest authority verification from the Controller.
As I stared at those words, my mind gradually cooled down.
This meant that if I truly wanted to shut down the entire project, I either had to let Motiao connect to the main system, or I had to catch Su Jingyao himself.
But Motiao was already at its limit.
My hands were shaking, yet I still swiped the tablet to the final log page.
There was a message left by Pei Yuming for any future executors.
“If you are reading this, it means I have failed.”
“The Deep Tide Sample is not a simple alien organism; it is more like an emotional resonator. It prioritizes attaching itself to human nervous systems that are under long-term high pressure, isolation, and pain.”
“Simply put, the more miserable you are, the easier it is to become its nest.”
“It doesn’t grow by eating flesh and blood, but by consuming the emotional energy squeezed out of its host.”
“Therefore, the ones truly feeding it were never the monsters themselves, but the people who manufactured the exhaustion.”
I read through the lines, a chill running through my entire body.
This thing had latched onto me not because I was unlucky.
It was because there were too many people like me in this system.
Staying up late, working overtime, swallowing insults, being squeezed dry by bosses, and being hollowed out by family.
Every day, we were bleeding invisibly.
And what Deep Tide Biotech wanted to do was package that bleeding into a product.
I suddenly understood why Su Jingyao was so desperate to get his hands on Motiao.
Pei Yuming wasn’t an experimental subject who had lost control.
He was the only person who knew how to completely strangle this project to death.
The banging outside the door grew heavier.
Someone was already trying to cut through the backup lock.
Motiao curled up in my arms, its color so pale it was almost transparent.
It suddenly extended a tentacle and slowly wrote three words in my palm.
“I am sorry.”
My nose stung, and I almost burst into tears again. “What are you apologizing to me for?”
The screen lit up.
“Approaching you at first was indeed an instinct.”
“The exhaustion, pain, and grievances on you were as bright as a lamp.”
“At that time, I couldn’t tell if I wanted to live or if I wanted to devour you.”
I froze.
It continued writing.
“So I realigned your spine at night, forced you to sleep, ordered food for you, and cut off your company’s meeting reminders.”
“I wanted to nurse you back to health first.”
“If you weren’t in so much pain, I wouldn’t continue to lose control.”
I stared at those words, and tears suddenly crashed down.
It turned out those seemingly absurd actions were its way of saving itself-and saving me.
It was clearly a monster, yet it was using the clumsiest methods to try its best not to hurt me.
Meanwhile, the people around me who claimed to be normal were only interested in squeezing the life out of me.
The door lock let out a piercing crack.
It wasn’t going to hold much longer.
I wiped away my tears and suddenly asked, “Pei Yuming, do you trust me?”
It paused, stunned.
I stuffed the tablet into my bag and stood up, leaning against the wall for support.
“Didn’t you say the Termination Program can also be executed with the Controller’s verification?”
“Then we’re going to find Su Jingyao.”
Motiao clearly panicked, its tentacles instantly wrapping around my wrist.
“Dangerous.”
“You will die.”
I looked down at it, smiling fiercely for the first time.
“For the past six months, every day has felt like I was dying.”
“But tonight, I want to live like a human being.”
In that moment, Motiao went quiet.
It looked at me as if it were finally seeing the real me for the first time.
Then, it gently wound itself around my arm.
It wasn’t a restraint.
It felt more like a solemn embrace.
