I didn’t have to bother finding my way back to the Palace of Demons. Feng Ran had already come for me.

A black wind swept past, leaving me dizzy.

The world spun. When it stopped, I was somewhere else entirely.

A man dressed in black walked toward me barefoot, his hair loose. He was stunningly beautiful, with a red mark on his forehead.

This was Demon Lord Feng Ran.

He came up to me and crouched down.

His face was expressionless, but I could tell he was deeply unhappy.

Cold fingers stroked my face.

“Tsk. You’ve made a mess of your face.” His voice was soft and husky, unsettling to hear.

“A-Li, how should I punish you?”

Before I could process what he’d called me, his fingers suddenly dug in.

“Smile.”

Me: “??”

Feng Ran said, “What? A few days away, and you’ve forgotten how to smile?”

His eyes were a little red. He looked a little mad.

I wasn’t strong enough to fight him head-on yet.

Knowing my limitations very well, I immediately adjusted my expression and—

“Hehe.”

I thought it was a pretty sweet smile.

But Feng Ran’s expression changed. He slapped me across the face.

“I told you! When Mo Li smiled at me, she only showed eight teeth! You dare show nine?”

Me: “…”

What the fuck was wrong with this man?!

“002, what happens if I force the ancient demonic energy to awaken now?”

“You’ll lose all your points.”

Just end me…

For showing one extra tooth when I smiled, I was punished with five days without food.

On the fourth day, I was so hungry I saw stars and started babbling. “002, I’m starving. Sing me a song.”

002 refused, cold and merciless.

I sighed. “When I was doing missions in my third world, one of the systems used to sing to me.”

“Then he violated regulations. I’ll report him to our superiors.”

Me: “…You’re no fun.”

By the fifth day of starvation, though, I was getting more and more excited.

Good. Very good. This demon lord was crazy enough, twisted enough.

I’d met my match.

On the sixth day, I attempted suicide.

The little demon who came to bring my meal was terrified. He scrambled off to fetch the big demon.

I exchanged some points for a life-preserving pill.

It barely kept me going until Feng Ran arrived.

“You dare seek death without my permission?!” His eyes blazed as he rushed over and gathered me into his arms.

I sneered inwardly. “002, my gamble paid off.”

“Feng Ran does care about this little substitute cultivator.”

“Congratulations.”

Me: “…Try sounding like you mean it.”

While we spoke, Feng Ran dismissed everyone else.

He placed a hand over my meridians and slowly fed spiritual power into my body.

The ancient demonic energy inside me grew excited. It devoured every bit of power he sent in.

I grew excited too. “Faster, faster! Suck him dry!”

No luck.

Feng Ran withdrew his hand and looked at me in bewilderment. “How can this be?”

He reached out to investigate what was happening inside me. Alarmed, I immediately stretched, blocking his hand.

“Ah. I’m awake.”

I turned and saw Feng Ran. My eyes instantly reddened, and a tear slipped from the corner of one.

“Feng Ran.” I lay on my side on the bed, my voice so soft it was barely audible. “Kill me.”

He seized me by the throat. “Your life is mine.”

I merely frowned a little. “Living like this hurts so much.”

I looked up at him, my eyes glimmering. “You’ll never understand how I feel…”

His choking hand paused. “What nonsense are you spouting?”

I closed my eyes briefly. With a hint of grim resolve, I used every ounce of strength to push myself up from the bed and kissed his lips.

Feng Ran froze.

Warm tears ran down my cheeks to the corners of my mouth.

Bitter, yet intimate.

Tsk. Nailed it.

While he was stunned, I sucked in a huge mouthful of power. A demon lord really did have deep reserves!

“Host…” 002 said. “When I explained the properties of ancient demonic energy, this wasn’t what I had in mind.”

He’d told me the ancient demonic energy inside me could absorb all spiritual power between heaven and earth.

This was the fastest, most effective method. Why wouldn’t I use it?!

Sluuurp!

Feng Ran was a little dizzy, but he quickly recovered and shoved me away.

“How dare you!”

I looked blank for a moment. Then, after a little while, I smiled again. “I’ve told you how I feel before I die. I have no regrets.”

“Kill me…”

Feng Ran glared at me.

Then he turned and strode away.

It looked suspiciously like he was fleeing…

I watched him disappear, then let out a long breath and flopped onto the bed.

“Ahhh~ That felt good~”

“I’m so full~”

“Beeeep—beeeep—”

Me: “…What are you doing?”

“Unsuitable for minors. Automatic censorship.”

“Ding! Mission Progress Update: Target Regret at 1%.”

The instant the progress notification sounded in my head, I shot upright from my deathbed.

“What? How much?” I couldn’t comprehend it. “One percent?”

I’d been wrong. Feng Ran might care about this little cultivator, but he certainly didn’t care much!

There went all my plans.

If I wanted to max out his Regret Points, I’d have to find another approach.

Before I could figure out what that approach might be, the notification sounded again.

“Ding! Mission Progress Update: Target Regret at 0%.”

Wait. It could go down?!
