Chapter 1

The System wanted me to win over the villain.

And at this very moment, the humiliated villain lay imprisoned on the bed by me, his clothes in disarray.

One of the young man’s wrists was bound to the bedframe. His eyes were lowered, and his black hair, smooth as silk, spilled over his collarbone.

He was extraordinarily beautiful, his features radiant without seeming delicate, and between his brows was a cool, jade-like pride. His entire bearing was like a sheathed blade, its edge hidden from sight.

Seeing me staring blankly, Rong Yu finally let out a low, restrained breath of a hum, deep and hoarse.

“Princess, has this slave failed to please you? Have I upset you?”

“Please punish this slave. Do not take your anger out on anyone else.”

His attitude was respectful and docile.

Because his chin was lifted, the slight bob of his Adam’s apple was exposed before my eyes. It looked utterly vulnerable, as though he had handed all power over life and death into my hands.

This was Rong Yu’s usual tactic in the early stages: showing weakness. The original Princess Changle had adored it.

But my fingertips trembled.

Whenever the villain acted obedient, disaster was sure to follow.

Of course, I wasn’t arrogant enough to think my charm had conquered Rong Yu. If anything, deep down in this young man who was enduring humiliation while biding his time, he probably wanted nothing more than to eat my flesh, drink my blood, pull out my tendons, grind my bones to dust, and scatter the ashes.

Later, he did exactly that.

When I remained silent for a long time, the watery gleam in Rong Yu’s eyes darkened. A flash of humiliated malice swept through them, but he quickly lowered his lashes and obediently pressed himself against my leg.

It was a posture of utter ingratiation.

He nuzzled his cheek into my palm.

His breath spilled over my skin, and I could almost feel the faint damp heat of it.

Warm. Slightly ticklish.

My question slipped out before I could stop it.

“What are you doing?”

Rong Yu froze. When he raised his face to look at me, uncertainty flickered in his eyes.

“Serving the princess, of course. Do you not want it?”

“As you did before-playing with this slave, whipping this slave, leaving marks upon this slave that belong only to you, Princess.”

“Scolding this slave, mocking this slave, saying this slave is lower than the horses in the stable, nothing but a rutting cur.”

His lips opened and closed, and the tip of his tongue appeared and vanished like the flicker of a snake’s tongue, as though concealing danger.

From my angle above him, I could easily see the small, round, vivid red mole on the side of his neck. It was so alluring it could steal a soul.

If I didn’t know he would later chop me into eight pieces and throw me to the dogs, I really might not have been able to control myself.

But with the shadow of death hanging over my head, I called a halt in terror.

“Don’t take it off yet!”

Chapter 2

The System, whose beginner’s guide had been extremely lacking, finally arrived late.

Seeing that Rong Yu’s clothes were loose but still more or less intact, it let out a long sigh of relief.

“Your mission is to find the cause of the plot collapse and maintain the stability of this small world.”

As it turned out, I had transmigrated into a sweet transmigration romance novel called The Beloved Empress Ruan Jiaojiao.

After the male and female leads joined hands to eliminate the evil supporting villainess who had committed every crime imaginable-the original Princess Changle-the final chapter should have ended with everyone receiving their happy ending. Instead, the devoted second male lead, Rong Yu, went mad and killed off the protagonist group until only the title of the book remained.

The storyline fell apart completely and descended into utter chaos.

Under the interference of the laws of heaven and earth, the small world kept restarting, attempting to set things right.

I was the fourth task-taker.

In other words, the previous three attempts to correct the plot had all ended in failure.

After Rong Yu blackened, he became the greatest villain. All three times, without exception, he killed everyone except the female lead.

The point in time I had arrived at was exactly after Princess Changle had redeemed Rong Yu from South Wind Pavilion, then, to avoid attracting attention, sent him to the stables and bestowed upon him the lowly status of a horse slave.

Princess Changle enjoyed the current emperor’s favor and the empress dowager’s affection. She was the most powerful princess of the dynasty.

Naturally, she had been spoiled into a willful, indulgent, domineering, and reckless temperament.

Her greatest hobby in life was collecting beautiful men and keeping male favorites.

Any male who entered the Princess Residence was, without exception, a beauty chosen from a hundred.

The biggest difference between Rong Yu and the others was that Princess Changle held his weakness in her hands.

As the orphaned son of rebels, Rong Yu had concealed his name and wandered to a border city. There, he accidentally met Ruan Jiaojiao, an innocent girl who had just transmigrated to the ancient era and knew no one. The two of them entered the capital together.

Under the pretense of being siblings, they were both brought back to the residence by Princess Changle, who was obsessed with beauty-one as a horse slave, the other as a maidservant.

Soon, Ruan Jiaojiao would, just as written in the book, fall in love at first sight with the Fifth Prince.

After that, she would do everything she could to rescue Rong Yu from the Princess Residence, launching the main career storyline of conquering the realm and defeating the villainess, while also squeezing in a sweet romance along the way.

As for how I was supposed to find the cause of the plot collapse, the System did not provide many hints.

In its own words: “If you ask me, I don’t know either.”

The System merely tactfully suggested that I try to win over the villain.

After all, judging from the experiences of the previous three failed task-takers, a gentle approach seemed to have some delaying effect, buying time for trial and error.
