The Villains Are All My Men After I Transmigrated into a Book - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Lin Heyuan had already reached the window.
A gentleman did not look at what propriety forbade, and he made no attempt to peer inside.
The young man beside him, however, crossed his arms and laughed.
“The princess? Didn’t I hear the servants say earlier that Princess Changle had taken a horse slave toward the riding grounds? Why would she be in the inner courtyard?”
“Everyone in the capital says Princess Changle is an exceptional rider, with a dashing elegance all her own on horseback.”
“Brother Runzhi, aren’t you even a little curious?”
After a brief silence, Lin Heyuan finally spoke, his voice gentle, yet solemn in every possible way.
“I cherish the princess dearly. Naturally, I am curious about every side of her.”
Inside the bed curtains, Rong Yu had propped himself half upright. The corners of his eyes were flushed red, and his usually cool, elegant, frost-clear features were now steeped in spring desire, reflecting my stunned face in full.
He bit his lower lip. Even the roots of his jade-pale ears were tinged crimson, making him look like he was offering himself up to be plucked.
But only I knew that the fingers Rong Yu had locked around my wrist were squeezing with terrifying force.
“You. Can’t.” I gritted my teeth and coaxed him in a low voice.
But when my gaze shifted, it happened to sweep over the scattered wine cups and honeyed fruit on the round table.
And the white powder that had accidentally spilled there.
Me: “…”
No wonder I thought something was off. The bow in this forced assault had, for once in his life, taken the initiative. He was one step away from having the words “something’s wrong” written across his face.
For a moment, the look I gave Rong Yu became tinged with pity.
In that brief instant of my loosened guard, Rong Yu found an opening. His damp, soft lips pressed against the corner of my mouth.
An exceedingly tender kiss.
He sighed softly.
“The princess is so skilled at riding horses. I wonder, if the venue were changed… would your riding skills be just as outstanding?”
My brain crashed from the impact of that sentence. My face went utterly indecent, and my mind began replaying the same broadcast on loop:
A villain with wicked thoughts isn’t scary. What’s scary is a villain who knows how to whisper sweet nothings.
I steadied myself, then struggled to push Rong Yu, who was drowning in desire and utterly defenseless, off to the side.
Immediately after, I flipped off the bed, lifted my skirts, and staggered toward the door.
I didn’t forget to casually smooth my hair a few times and straighten my pearl hairpin.
Unfortunately, the commotion in the room had been far too eye-catching. Even Lin Heyuan, who had only just taken a few steps away, heard it clearly.
He hesitated and looked back.
I took a deep breath, threw the door open with great determination, and feigned a languid, delicate bearing as I covered my mouth and yawned.
“Who is gossiping about me?”
Lin Heyuan stood there tall and graceful, refined as jade, his bearing elegant beyond compare.
I studied him closely.
He had a pair of cool, aloof phoenix eyes. A faint smile lingered between his brows, adding a few touches of warmth and gentleness to his jade-like air. He truly was a figure like a jeweled branch and a jade tree.
Behind him, standing shoulder to shoulder with him, the young man had sharp brows and bright eyes, like a freshly washed green bamboo, spirited and full of youthful vigor.
Yet his handsome face was faintly red, and he had actually stared at me in a daze.
Only when Lin Heyuan bent to salute did he realize his breach of etiquette and hurriedly lower his eyes.
“Princess, this gentleman beside me is Gu Jinzhou, the third young master of the General’s Mansion of the Southern Pacification. Since childhood, he followed the general to guard the southern lands, and only returned to the capital this month after receiving an imperial summons.”
Lin Heyuan turned his face slightly away, not daring to look directly at me.
I quietly clutched my skirt tighter, naturally unaware that, in the eyes of the two of them, my cheeks were flushed as if I were drunk, my eyes misty and rippling, making me look exactly like a crabapple blossom drowsing in spring.
On top of that, my clothes were somewhat disheveled, inviting all sorts of thoughts.
Yet Lin Heyuan was too proper, and Gu Jinzhou too innocent. Neither of them thought in that direction, and both simply assumed they had disturbed my nap.
Gu Jinzhou cupped his hands in a somewhat awkward salute, then quickly found an excuse and left.
Concerned that Rong Yu was still inside the room, I shut the wooden door behind me with a backhanded slap and led Lin Heyuan farther away.
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a pale-pink figure walking this way before slipping into the room.
Oh, it was the female lead, Ruan Jiaojiao.
Then never mind.
I swallowed my heart back into my stomach.
