The White Deer's Cry - Chapter 4
He refused my kindness and picked up some perfectly useless wound powder instead.
On his flesh, it did about as much good as water.
I sighed. “It would heal faster if I licked all of it…”
“I used to do it for you when we were little. Have you forgotten?”
Jing Ziyan had been silent. Suddenly, he seized my wrist and pulled me close—close enough to make out the dragon scales and veins beneath his skin.
“Who else have you done that for? Yuhua?”
His eyes were like dark obsidian, so deep they seemed about to draw me in.
“No…” A few aggrieved tears squeezed out. “He wouldn’t let me.”
His face darkened. He pushed me away with a cold laugh.
“I don’t need it.”
I had never felt so defeated.
I thought of him as family, and he thought my spit was dirty.
The thought had me sighing over and over. Without meaning to, I pressed a little too hard.
He hissed.
Turning halfway around, he studied me through narrowed eyes. Something in his gaze seemed to loosen.
“You really want to?”
He was very close. When he tilted his face up, candlelight fell across his luminous, handsome profile.
My mouth went dry.
“Yes.”
His expression grew… meaningful.
“Do you feel anything unusual?”
I worked my mouth, staring at him.
“Thirsty.”
And those tempting, slender lips—I wanted to kiss them.
After all my time in the celestial realm, I’d never had such a shameless thought. It rather alarmed me.
Jing Ziyan offered me a cup of water. “Drink.”
I missed it and accidentally tipped it over.
Warm tea trickled down his chest, slowly slipping lower until it disappeared beneath his narrow waist.
In the lamplight, even the lines of his waist gleamed.
I swallowed.
He laughed softly. “Spilled it. Nothing left to drink.”
There was something unnervingly seductive about that voice.
He was the one who hadn’t held it steady.
Heat rushed to my head. I lunged at him, and we tumbled onto the narrow bed together.
He smelled fresh and cool, deliciously so.
Lying beneath me with his black hair scattered and his lips pale, his eyes shone darkly.
“Lu Bai. Dragon blood runs hot.”
I didn’t hear a word. A trickle of blood ran from my nose and dripped onto his chest.
“A-Jing, you’re so beautiful.”
A-Jing was what I’d called him when we were young.
After so many years apart, the name sounded unexpectedly intimate. Almost flirtatious.
“Mm. Do you like it?” His voice was calm, barely audible.
“Yes.”
“Does Yuhua have this?”
Have what?
Abdominal muscles?
I shook my head. “How should I know? That heartless bastard—mmph!”
Jing Ziyan abruptly rolled us over and sealed my mouth with his. At the same time, he caught my wrists and drew my arms around his neck.
Heavens!
He nearly scared the life out of this poor deer.
For the first time in my life, someone was nibbling on me as if I were a carrot.
My heart raced. My vision swam.
Blood surged through me like storm waves, washing away what little sense I had left.
His gaze burned. Under it, I grew so nervous I could scarcely breathe.
He scratched gently beneath my chin and lifted his brows with a faint smile.
“My wound still hurts.”
“Huh?”
“Lick it for me…”
Offering to do something and being made to do it felt entirely different, I discovered.
He had a wonderful body. Unfortunately, the wound was so long that working my way along it nearly wore me out.
His eyes were dense with darkness. His hot breath brushed my ear, tickling.
“Lu Bai, will you give me little dragons?”
Dazed, I let him lead me on. In the rush, I barely managed to register an objection.
“They might not be dragons. They might be deer.”
He kissed my burning neck and laughed softly.
“The one getting eaten doesn’t get to negotiate.”
