The Yandere Assassin Falls for Himself - Chapter 1
The muzzle was cold against my temple. I didn’t dare move a muscle.
I knew exactly what kind of person I had been five years ago.
Dangerous. Mercurial. Brutal.
That was how the other assassins had described me.
I stole a glance upward and met my younger self’s eyes. He studied my face, then let his gaze travel between our identical clothes.
“Who are you?”
I leaned back by an imperceptible degree. “My name is… Song Shushui.”
He didn’t even blink. The gun shoved harder against my temple, its chill sending a shiver through my entire body.
“I’ll give you one more chance. What’s your name?” he asked flatly.
What the hell? Song Shushui was my real name.
I almost laughed from sheer irritation. Had I really been this impatient five years ago?
If someone with my face and my name were kneeling pitifully in front of me right now, I would…
I would blow his brains out.
Right.
I might not have a weapon on me, but if I couldn’t win a fight, I could at least grovel.
I ducked my head at once, every inch the obedient lackey. “Actually, my name is Song Shui. One of your rivals couldn’t beat you, so he sent me to be your double. I’m supposed to replace you after winning your sympathy.”
“But I’ve turned over a new leaf. I can cook, clean, and guard you around the clock. I could be your personal bodyguard…”
Apparently he hadn’t expected me to pour out such an elaborate lie without so much as blinking. For a moment, my younger self looked almost stunned. I noticed the muscles in his legs draw taut.
After a long pause, he asked, “Which rival?”
Which one?
I froze.
How was I supposed to know?
Fortunately, I had made plenty of enemies five years ago.
I lowered my head and viciously pinched my own thigh, then wiped away the tears I’d forced into the corners of my eyes.
“I… I don’t know his name. I’d recognize the lower half of his face, though.”
The man before me said nothing.
I pressed on with my nonsense. “I’m useful, I swear. To tell you the truth, both my parents died when I was five. I had no other way to survive…”
Halfway through my speech, the cold pressure vanished from my temple.
“Stand up,” my younger self said.
I arranged my face into a look of delighted relief and rose, brushing the dust from my knees. “Yes, new boss. What should I call you? Your real name? A professional alias?”
He frowned. “Leviathan.”
Leviathan—the monstrous sea creature from the Bible, an embodiment of evil often depicted as a vast sea serpent. It represented distortion and whirlpools; in Catholic tradition, it was one of the demons associated with the seven deadly sins, corresponding to envy.
Knowing myself, though, I had probably caught sight of some random object, had a flash of inspiration, and blurted out the first name that came to mind.
Fine. Leviathan it was.
Still better than calling himself Dog Scraps.
