Chapter 187

Old Chu and Xiao Xi had to be special in some way.

That was why Miao Yuan and his group had gone to such lengths to seek medical help at Southwest Market.

Miao Yuan did not try to hide it.

Even though they had already survived two years in the Apocalypse, even though they knew about the original National Announcement Briefing, and even though they had confirmed that in Sheng An’s timeline it was only Apocalypse Month Three… they trusted the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department completely.

Just having Sheng An sitting nearby made people feel at ease. Safe.

“Old Chu’s Supernatural Ability is Yin-Yang Eyes. In his eyes, ordinary humans and Aberrants don’t look the same,” Miao Yuan said slowly.

The moment he finished speaking, Sheng An and the others all turned to look at him.

Even Qi Lingwu, whose face had been cold, had a flash of change in his eyes.

Yin-Yang Eyes!

If Superpower User and Aberrants looked different to him, then wasn’t that the perfect identification system?!

The Nation had never had a good screening method. Psychic Ability User were extremely difficult to locate in full. Who would have thought they would discover a whole new way to screen for Aberrants here?

Using the eyes to see was far faster, more accurate, and more comprehensive than relying on other Psychic Ability User to judge whether someone was an Aberrant.

In that instant, even Sheng An’s breathing grew rapid.

Hao Jingye immediately spoke into the walkie-talkie. “Move the medical vehicle up. Have it follow right behind us. If anything happens to the people in the vehicle, notify us at once.”

The reply came from the other end-

“Both of them are in fairly stable condition, but their illnesses are relatively severe. Treatment will take time, and they won’t wake up anytime soon.”

Hao Jingye let out a breath.

As long as they could be saved, that was enough.

A Yin-Yang Eyes Superpower User was far too valuable to the Nation. His value was no less than Jiang Yu’s.

In other words, they would spare no cost to bring the Yin-Yang Eyes Superpower User back to Jing City Base.

Even Jiang Yu and Li Xin could understand how important this was.

Li Xin sighed. “That old man is way more important than any God of Light. We have to get him back to Jing City safely. Then we’ll be able to slowly dig out the hidden Aberrants.”

If they could bring him back to Jing City…

Humanity would take another huge step forward on the road to victory.

Li Wanyun looked puzzled. “Old Chu’s Supernatural Ability is so special. If he got sick, why didn’t he go find a Healing Type Superpower User sooner? No matter how stupid he is, he should understand how important Yin-Yang Eyes is, right?”

That was an ability that could identify Aberrants!

What place didn’t desperately need a Superpower User like that right now?

Miao Yuan looked very surprised.

As if suddenly realizing something, he hurriedly said, “You don’t know? There are no Aberrants in the Southwest anymore.”

“Huh?” Everyone froze again.

No Aberrants?!

Miao Yuan said, “There were some at first, but casualties in the Southwest were devastating. Not many people survived, and naturally, most of the Aberrants died as well. Only a few were left.

“On top of that, Old Chu could see through Aberrants, so it was very hard for them to hide. At some point, the Aberrants just disappeared. We haven’t heard of Aberrants causing trouble since.”

Hearing this, Sheng An did not relax. Instead, her brows drew even tighter together.

The Southwest truly was different at every turn. Strange to the extreme.

Aberrants would disappear?

Before the source of the Aberrants was found, Sheng An did not believe they would go completely extinct. After all, they were humanity’s greatest enemy and greatest disaster in the Apocalypse.

Qi Lingwu looked at her. “Is the Time issue in the Southwest related to the Aberrants?”

Sheng An took an almost imperceptible breath and shook her head. “We don’t know yet.”

After a pause, she added, “But I hope it is.”

The Time was wrong. No matter what it was connected to, as long as they could find the crux of the problem, they might find a solution. She was not afraid it was the work of Aberrants. She was afraid they would never figure out what was going on!

But…

If it was Aberrants, why would they do this? And how had they done it?

Sheng An shook her head, pushing aside the tangled thoughts.

Once they met that Healing Type Superpower User, they should be able to learn more.

The current Southwest not only had a Healing Type Superpower User, but also Yin-Yang Eyes. They had to bring both of them out-no, they had to bring them out as soon as possible!

“What about the child?” Jiang Yu pressed.

The old man’s Supernatural Ability was special. Did that mean the child’s Supernatural Ability was even more special?

But Miao Yuan shook his head. “Xiao Xi doesn’t have a Supernatural Ability. She’s just an ordinary person.”

Everyone froze.

Sheng An suddenly grew serious. “She was born after the Apocalypse?”

Miao Yuan nodded. “Strictly speaking, she was born on the second day of the Apocalypse. She wasn’t full-term. After her mother was frightened by the earthquake, Xiao Xi was born early.”

Hao Jingye picked up the thought. “She survived.”

“Yes. Not only did she survive, she’s in very good condition,” Miao Yuan said softly.

The moment he finished speaking, the medical team’s captain came through the walkie-talkie, voice filled with excitement-

“Team Leader Sheng! This child’s physical constitution isn’t strong, and she’s a bit malnourished, but her adaptability is incredible! For medicine ordinary people can use, Superpower User can take three times the dosage-and so can she. She absorbs it extremely quickly, too. The nutrient solution we injected into her was absorbed almost immediately…”
The captain was still talking a mile a minute, his excitement obvious.

Dr. Yan turned around at once. “Long Tianyu, take me to the medical team. I need to see her!”

His voice trembled with barely suppressed excitement.

Long Tianyu immediately brought him over.

Sheng An slowly smiled as well. It was the first smile she had shown since entering the Southwest.

She turned to look at Qi Lingwu. Their eyes met, and hope burned in both their gazes.

Li Xin still didn’t quite understand. “Her constitution is special? Does she have some undiscovered Supernatural Ability?”

Hao Jingye shook his head and explained to him,

“No. What’s special about her is that she doesn’t have a Supernatural Ability. Newborns after the Apocalypse have a very hard time surviving. We discovered that back in Jing City, and it’s been one of Jing City’s biggest concerns.

“The Research Institute has analyzed it too. If children can adapt and grow up, they may undergo certain genetic changes, becoming more suited to the Apocalypse and to the new world. But outside, it’s only the third month.

“The Southwest Region is already in its third year. Xiao Xi is over two years old. She’s alive and well, living in a way that’s better adapted to the new world.”

That was the true hope for humanity’s future!

No wonder her name was Xiao Xi.

Song Linwei raised his voice. “A Healing Type Superpower User, Yin-Yang Eyes, and Xiao Xi. The situation in the Southwest is disastrously bad, but it has also given humanity extraordinary hope.”

Sheng An slowly nodded.

That was right. The Southwest had the worst circumstances, but it also had the hope they had been waiting for.

-She had to bring them back to Jing City safely.

Sheng An took a deep breath and looked out the window.
With news of Old Chu and Xiao Xi, the despair brought on by “Apocalypse Year Three” eased somewhat.

The Convoy sped up, and before long, they arrived at the Southwest Market.

Even from a distance, before they had drawn close, they could see the towering giant castle.

It had been built jointly by Earth Ability Users and Metal Element Superpower User. The tall castle stood amid many buildings, a massive clock hanging on its outer wall. At the very top of the castle, something was faintly glowing.

Miao Yuan stuck his head out. “That’s the God of Light’s residence!”

His face was full of yearning and anticipation.

The surprise on Long Tianyu’s and Li Xin’s faces vanished in a second, replaced by blank, cold expressions.

Li Wanyun said, “This guy… really knows how to put on a show. That’s not ordinary arrogance.”

Li Xin said coldly, “He should be grateful he was born in the Southwest. If he were outside, Sister Sheng would have taught him how to behave long ago.”

He flexed his steel wrist and said sinisterly, “Of course, I can also teach him how to behave.”

Song Linwei looked at him and said faintly, “Xiao Xin, didn’t you believe in the light? Your light is right here. You don’t believe anymore?”

Li Xin: “…”

His smile froze on his face, leaving only embarrassment behind.

Long Tianyu let out a soft scoff. “He’s just a Healing Type Superpower User. He doesn’t even have much combat power, yet he dares call himself the God of Light? What, did awakening a Supernatural Ability make him mutate too?”

Hao Jingye looked at him expressionlessly. “He’s a God, and you’re a ghost. You’re not in the same system, but you’re both mutants, right, Ghost King?”

Long Tianyu: “…”

He lowered his head.

Zhuang Fan had no such dark history, so he boldly spoke up.

“Mm!”

Wu Buyu translated, “He says cults are bad, and the title God of Light is inappropriate.”

Gu Qiansheng muttered under his breath, “Sure enough, as long as you’re in some remote place where the Nation can’t reach you, you can establish your own faction and become a regional overlord…”

Why had Sheng An discovered him so early?

-They were jealous. This group of people was seriously jealous.

Sheng An couldn’t be bothered with them. She looked at Miao Yuan. “What’s the God of Light’s name?”

Miao Yuan said, “I don’t know. I don’t think anyone knows the God of Light’s name. Everyone calls him the God of Light-or the Divine Lord.”

Sheng An: “…”

She fell into Silence.

As the Convoy drove into the Southwest Market, countless people poured out in surprise, craning their necks and looking around curiously.

Inside the castle.

The “God of Light” received the news.

“Divine Lord, a Convoy has arrived outside. It doesn’t look like it’s from the Southwest, and it doesn’t seem simple,” someone reported.

In an instant, a wave of discussion broke out.

“So what if it’s not simple? Once they’ve come to our Divine Lord’s territory, dragon or tiger, they’ll have to lie low before the Divine Lord!”

“But they still have gasoline at a time like this. That Convoy doesn’t look short on Supplies.”

“Exactly. And they’re all big trucks. Little Sanzi said they’re packed full, all military Supplies. Old Yu also said their team has a Space Ability user!”

“Hiss.”

…

The man seated at the head finally moved. He cast them a cold sidelong glance, and everyone instantly fell silent.

The man slowly stood and shook out his robes.

“Then let’s go take a look.”
