Chapter 93

A massive coordinate grid appeared in Qi Lingwu’s mind.

At the same time, he seemed able to “see” every single person.

In his mental field of vision, everyone lay spread out across that grid on a flat plane, and he could lock onto each one with perfect precision.

In the darkness, with no need to test, probe, or aim, he accurately locked onto a shadow closing in on Sheng An.

No gun smoke. No movement.

He didn’t even pull the trigger of the sniper rifle in his hands.

Yet in the empty air, a long sniper-red line pinned the locked shadow. It was as if some gigantic sniper rifle in the void had fired-silently!

With a bang, the shadow dropped. The darkness vanished in an instant, and sight returned.

The fish-belly pale sky flared bright. The rising sun shone over everyone, rosy clouds filling the heavens.

Only after confirming Sheng An was safe and unharmed did Qi Lingwu slowly collapse.

“Qi Dui!”

Yu Feng had only just made out his surroundings when he saw Qi Dui go down. He lunged to catch him, panic on his face. After confirming Qi Dui was still breathing, he finally let out a long breath-then stared blankly.

“Is Qi Dui okay?” Sheng An asked.

Yu Feng shook his head. “He’s fine. Looks like he just passed out.”

He was completely at a loss.

It had gone dark without warning, then brightened without warning-everyone else was just as confused, with no idea what had happened.

Ji Yani stood there, dumbfounded. “What was that?”

Hao Jingye’s voice came out rough with lingering fear. “That wasn’t a drunk woman. That was-an accomplice, another of the Aberrants!”

Those last words carried endless dread.

The woman lay not far from Sheng An.

Sheng An walked over and brushed aside the mess of hair covering the woman’s face.

“Just as I thought.” Sheng An let out a soundless sigh. “The Psychic Ability User, Ms. Xu-Xu Jia.”

Xu Jia, who had disappeared for so long, had also become one of the Aberrants.

Zhang Jialiang running over here might not have been only to escape-he may have been trying to meet up with Xu Jia.

So there really were no coincidences in this world.

That “drunk woman” in South Lake Park had been the Aberrants’ Xu Jia in disguise all along!

Xu Jia was dead. A handgun was still gripped in her hand as she lay there soundlessly, with only a pea-sized black hole in the center of her forehead.

Wu Buyu looked from the body on the ground to Qi Lingwu and cried out, “So Qi Lingwu awakened a Supernatural Ability and killed her?”

Song Linwei said, “Probably.”

Li Xin’s voice jumped an octave as his eyes went wide. “Damn, that’s insane! What kind of Supernatural Ability is that? Xu Jia’s Supernatural Ability clearly made us unable to see anything-how did he kill her? And it doesn’t even look like a gunshot wound.”

Hao Jingye turned to Li Wanyun. “That northern Psychic Ability User you couldn’t remember before-did they kill by attacking someone’s head directly? Like this? Was it Qi Dui?”

His eyes lit up.

If it really was Qi Dui, that meant in Li Wanyun’s last life, Qi Lingwu had lived.

That was crucial information.

But Li Wanyun shook her head decisively. “I don’t think so. I heard that person’s Supernatural Ability didn’t kill easily. And if someone’s head is attacked by brainwaves, they bleed from all seven orifices. Qi Dui’s Supernatural Ability… it’s really strange. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Hao Jingye couldn’t hide his disappointment.

Gu Qiansheng thought for a moment before saying, “No matter what Qi Dui’s Supernatural Ability is, it’s extremely strong. To Silence Xu Jia’s Supernatural Ability, I kept my Silence Ability active the whole time, but Qi Dui ignored my Supernatural Ability and also pinned down Xu Jia’s Supernatural Ability…”

That alone was enough to show just how overwhelming Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability was.

Li Xin sighed. “He was already terrifying without awakening, and then he awakens a Supernatural Ability like this. Is anyone else supposed to survive?”

When they’d first awakened, they’d thought they were strong enough to be unbeatable. But every day in the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department rewrote what they thought they knew.

“That’s Qi Dui for you,” Jiang Yu said, awe in her eyes.

Sheng An stood up, keeping a hand on Li Wanyun, and exhaled. “Let’s go back first. The Research Institute will determine what Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability actually is.”

Two of the Aberrants, plus the fact that Xu Jia had been a Superpower User in the previous life and was now one of the Aberrants… all of it needed to be reported, to let countless brilliant minds across the country analyze it together and find the cause.

The questions would be unraveled one by one.

Everyone nodded, got into the vehicles, and left South Lake Park.

In the car, the medic was treating Sheng An. She looked out the window.

Daybreak had already come.

Another new day.

*

Doomsday countdown: 7 days.

Hao Jingye said, “Zhang Jialiang’s and Xu Jia’s bodies have both been sent to the Research Institute. These are currently the only two of the Aberrants we’ve found. The experts need to study them before the bodies can be buried.

“As for the Aberrants’ situation and Xu Jia’s change, the higher-ups already know. The high-IQ members of the Former Special Affairs Bureau are gathering information and analyzing it. They may need to ask the Reborn Persons about the details.”
He looked toward the three Reborn Persons.

Long Tianyu, Li Wanyun, and Jiang Yu all nodded simultaneously.

They were willing to cooperate.

Long Tianyu’s neck was wrapped tightly in bandages. The hospital had originally wanted him to stay for observation, but he was so anxious to know what was happening that he had rushed back.

And the thing he wanted to know most was-

“What exactly is Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability?”

Hao Jingye shook his head. “Qi Dui is still at the Research Institute, and Sister Sheng is there as well. The experts need to examine Qi Dui’s body before they can confirm the nature of his Supernatural Ability with him.”

Superpower Users generally had a certain level of awareness regarding their own powers; they could vaguely sense the direction or category their awakened Supernatural Ability belonged to.

After all, it was a change within their own bodies.

Li Wanyun found it strange. “Since Qi Dui was able to awaken a Supernatural Ability before the Apocalypse, and it was a high-level one that could rival Gu Qiansheng or Xu Jia right from the start, he should have had a Supernatural Ability in our previous lives too.”

Though he didn’t want to admit it, Long Tianyu had to nod. “With that kind of power, if he had existed in the Apocalypse in our past lives, we would definitely remember him. At the very least, we should have heard of him. It really is quite jarring.”

Having been reborn once, they found themselves facing even more mysteries.

The group fell into silence.

Hao Jingye sighed. “Mysteries can always be solved. Truth requires clues; it can’t be guessed out of thin air. The more doubts we have, the closer we are to the truth. It’s better than being completely oblivious.”

He managed a smile. “Besides, it’s a good thing that Qi Dui awakened a Supernatural Ability.”

Song Linwei also smiled and nodded in agreement.

As for the rest…

Their faces all slumped, looking somewhat dejected.

Li Wanyun murmured, “Now that Qi Dui has awakened a powerful Supernatural Ability, Sheng An and he are going to keep us even more firmly under their thumbs.”

Before, Qi Dui could intimidate them just by cleaning his gun.

Now that he had awakened a Supernatural Ability, he wouldn’t even need to clean his gun anymore; he could suppress them directly.

Long Tianyu said sourly, “He might not necessarily be that strong. He just killed one person and then passed out himself. He’s probably not as good as me. After all, I never heard of his name in my last life!”

Wu Buyu blinked and suddenly spoke up, “You’re saying one thing but thinking another. You also think Qi Dui’s Supernatural Ability seems pretty badass, and you’re practically bubbling over with jealousy inside.”

Long Tianyu: “…”

He flew into a rage. “Can you stop using your Mind Reading whenever you feel like it?!”

With that, he stomped away, putting two meters of distance between them.

Li Wanyun didn’t say anything, but she silently moved away as well.

Wu Buyu tilted his head and gave an innocent smile. “The experts said I should probably practice my Mind Reading more. In other words, I need to use it frequently.”

Long Tianyu barked, “Gu Qiansheng, Silence him!”

Gu Qiansheng, who had been standing two meters away the whole time, said indifferently, “Can’t be bothered.”

Long Tianyu: “…”

“Huh? Where’s Li Xin?” Jiang Yu asked, confused.

Song Linwei looked around and indeed couldn’t find Li Xin. He shook his head helplessly. “He definitely went to the Research Institute. That guy really can’t keep still.”

Li Xin couldn’t contain his curiosity and had slipped away to the Research Institute while they weren’t looking, wanting to be the first to know Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability.

Liu Yue was also itching with curiosity. “So, what exactly is Qi Dui’s Supernatural Ability?”

“Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability seems to be able to lock onto people. Given how Xu Jia’s Psychic Ability affected our vision, he still managed to lock onto her precisely. It seems like a support-type tracking Supernatural Ability, yet he was able to kill her in one strike…” Gu Qiansheng analyzed, his eyes slightly downcast.

“Wind? Or Air?” Zhang Kun let his imagination run wild.

Ke Jiaxue added, “That’s also possible.”

Just then, the sound of footsteps approached. Sheng An returned, carrying a folder and accompanied by Li Xin.

Everyone’s eyes lit up.

Jiang Yu leaned forward over the table. “Sister Sheng, Qi Dui’s Supernatural Ability!”

“Is it Wind or Air? Or maybe it’s ‘Gun’?” Wu Buyu scratched his head. “By the way, is there even a ‘Gun’ Supernatural Ability? If there is, it would certainly suit Qi Dui.”

“If we’re talking about what fits, ‘Sniper’ would be more appropriate!” Long Tianyu rolled his eyes.

However.

Sheng An shook her head. “It’s none of those.”

Everyone froze, staring at her.

Sheng An spoke slowly, “His Supernatural Ability is ‘Anchor’.”

Anchor?

The group was even more bewildered.

Sheng An explained, “Qi Lingwu’s Supernatural Ability isn’t limited to just locking onto and killing targets. His power is very unique. It belongs to the Psychic Ability category; he can mark positions, lock onto coordinates, and exert mental influence… Its full range of functions hasn’t been entirely explored yet, and there’s currently a slight situation with his Supernatural Ability.”

Taking a deep breath, she continued:

“Due to the unique nature of his power, the Research Institute has adopted Li Xin’s suggestion and officially named Qi Dui’s Supernatural Ability-

“Psychic Ability: King’s Anchor.”
