When I Grew Tired of Him, My Gentle, Reserved Husband's Eyes Turned Red - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“You lied to me… How should I punish you?”
The man stroked my temple, his dark, clammy gaze clinging to my lips like a cold-blooded predator locking onto its prey.
A chill crawled over me under his stare.
Just then, my phone buzzed.
Bzzz, bzzz…
It practically saved my life!
Liu Qing’s breezy voice came through the receiver.
“I’m back in the country! Remember to come see me, and don’t forget our promise-”
I hurriedly cut her off. “I’m coming over right now. Okay, bye.”
After hanging up, I pushed Fu Xunfang away.
“See? I wasn’t lying!”
But when I met his unreadable, shadowed gaze, my voice gradually weakened.
“You should… stop doubting me so much.”
With that, I bolted as if my feet had been greased.
I didn’t breathe a sigh of relief until I reached Liu Qing’s house.
She had just finished directing the butler to set down her suitcases. She stared at me blankly. “Li Mu, are you… here to welcome me home in the middle of the night?”
I slumped listlessly. “I’m here to hide for a while.”
Liu Qing asked, “Did you and Fu Xunfang have a fight?”
“Fu Xunfang has been lying to me all this time… He’s actually a snake!”
Her eyes widened. “But you’ve been terrified of snakes since you were little! I still remember how that huge black-scaled python, thick as a dinner plate, nearly squeezed you to death when we were kids…”
That night, I lay in bed staring at the R-rated bullet comments you’d normally only see on an adult fiction site, my mind in complete chaos.
[The creepy male lead went straight to the bathroom after he got home, and he still hasn’t come out. What could he possibly be doing in there for so long? Gee, so hard to guess!]
For the first time, I understood the pain of getting a dirty joke instantly.
Then one particular comment caught my eye.
[I don’t like obsessive, non-consensual romance. Hurry up and skip ahead! Let the sweet puppy-like second male lead take over already!]
If the second male lead eventually took over, then Fu Xunfang clearly wasn’t deranged enough to stop me from divorcing him.
I’d been worried that marrying a lawyer would make divorce difficult, but that comment put me much more at ease.
The next day, Liu Qing insisted on dragging me out to choose a male model.
“I’m back now, bestie. You think I’m still going to let you settle for something that bad?”
I was about to refuse, but then I remembered the comment about the second male lead taking over. Maybe the man meant for me was among these male models.
So the words changed course at my lips. “Then I’ll have to choose carefully.”
On a private luxury yacht, a group of uniformed male models, all over 180 centimeters tall, filed in. They came in every shape and style, like consorts being presented to an ancient emperor.
I was dazzled by the sight.
Liu Qing raised her chin proudly. “Well?”
I silently gave her a thumbs-up. “As impressive as ever, Miss Liu.”
The male models dropped to one knee before me and gazed up at me. There were rugged ones, boyish ones, innocent ones, sunny ones…
Every type imaginable.
One after another, they said, “Pick me, miss.”
I examined them one by one, but the image that surfaced in my mind was Fu Xunfang’s alluring gaze.
He was still sexier than any of them.
“None of them catch your eye? Then let’s bring in the next group.”
Liu Qing signaled the bodyguard beside her, and another batch of handsome men was ushered in, leaving me dumbfounded.
Even after several groups, there still wasn’t anyone I particularly liked.
Not wanting to disappoint Liu Qing, I pointed to a fair-skinned, scholarly-looking young man whose features resembled Fu Xunfang’s the most.
“I’ll take him.”
Before the words had even finished leaving my mouth, the bullet comments, silent for ages, suddenly surged in like a tidal wave.
[Wasn’t the male-model selection scene supposed to happen a month from now? Why is it happening early?]
[Holy crap, this heroine is a walking disaster! She barely escaped with her life, and now she’s rushing to court death!]
[The creepy male lead is already on his way!]
