Chapter 1

I entered the palace at sixteen and was made Noble Consort. In the harem, I stood beneath one person and above all the rest.

But then, to everyone’s surprise, the Empress suddenly passed away, and the five-year-old Little Crown Prince she left behind was naturally placed under my care.

Overnight, my status rose with the tide. I was only one step away from becoming Empress.

My father grinned like an idiot and told me to make sure I kept the Crown Prince happy. I, however, could not bring myself to smile.

Because right before I entered the palace, I had awakened. I was nothing more than the vicious Noble Consort in a male-oriented novel. After failing to ruin the male lead-the Little Crown Prince-through excessive pampering, I would be thrown into the Cold Palace by the Emperor, the male lead’s father, and meet a bleak end.

Since I couldn’t escape the fate of entering the palace, I could only stop trying altogether.

“Crown Prince, this is the Noble Consort.” When Yunhuan led a young boy dressed in white to the imperial garden, I instinctively raised my eyes and happened to meet a pair of cold, indifferent ones.

The Little Crown Prince, Yuan Chenxi, was born to the former Empress. He was quite a handsome child.

A ring of beauties surrounded me.

The moment the Crown Prince arrived, all kinds of gazes fell on me. Consort Shu muttered softly, “Already trying to please the Crown Prince? How impatient. The Empress’s remains have barely gone cold.”

“Exactly. If she didn’t have a general for an elder brother and the Chief Minister for a father, how could she have become Noble Consort the moment she entered the palace?”

Their voices drifted into my ears one after another, but I did not so much as move an eyelid.

They had all been close to the Empress before. It was only natural.

As long as they weren’t pointing at my nose and cursing me to my face, I didn’t care.

“Greetings, Noble Consort.” The Little Crown Prince’s voice was still somewhat childish, but the chill in it was unmistakable.

I gave a slight nod and continued painting my nails with red dye.

Only after quite some time did I realize that the Little Crown Prince still had not left.

I turned to look and saw his legs trembling slightly. His fair little face had gone even paler, as though he was enduring something.

Me: “?”

Yunhuan left the Little Crown Prince’s side and leaned close to my ear, whispering, “Noble Consort, the Crown Prince knelt for the Late Empress for a very long time just now. He can’t bear standing for too long right now.”

I froze. “??”

Although I had no intention of fawning over him, I had no intention of tormenting him either.

“The Crown Prince must be tired as well. Go back and rest,” I hurriedly said.

Hurry up and leave. Hurry up and leave.

I propped my chin on my hand. I was already a little hungry and began wondering what I should eat later.

At my words, Yuan Chenxi instantly lifted his lowered head. His searching gaze landed on my face, his lips pressed into a straight line. Then he gave a cold snort, turned, and walked away.

As soon as he left, Ziyuan, who was standing on my other side, looked at me as if she wanted to say something but didn’t dare.

The surrounding consorts were stunned too.

They were probably thinking, Why didn’t I act the way they imagined I would?

Seeing that I remained unmoved, Ziyuan grew anxious. She lowered herself and said in a voice only the two of us could hear, “Noble Consort, before you entered the palace, the master reminded you over and over to coax the Crown Prince. But look at you, giving him a show of force the moment he arrived. What are we supposed to do from now on?”

I said, “Then let’s have pig trotters.”

What else were we supposed to do? Eat when it was time to eat and drink when it was time to drink, of course.

I was the Noble Consort, hey. What could he do to me?
