Why Is Mr. Handsome Always Angry? - Chapter 11

Granny Xu had entered the Grand View Garden.

“Why don’t I remember our place being this big?” I poked around, looking everywhere.

I admired myself immensely.

Impersonating someone was all about the art of conversation.

“Go change your socks,” Mr. Handsome said, looking at the patterned footprints on the wooden floor.

Hah. Men. So mighty earlier, so meek now.

I nodded graciously. “Beg me.”

“…”

I pictured Mr. Handsome dropping to his knees, kowtowing and humbly pleading for me to undertake the labor of changing my socks.

If only I’d had so much as a peanut to sober me up…

Fine. Under his icy gaze, I decided to give him a way out.

“I’ll go, I’ll go! I’m getting out of here and changing them right now! Don’t be angry!”

I fled into the dressing room.

Looking at the dazzling array of colorful clothes, I was intoxicated.

Mr. Handsome wasn’t just beautiful. He was rich.

If his temper improved a little, I might consider it if he begged to keep me as his mistress.

The clothes in the wardrobe looked new, perhaps never worn. Some still had their tags.

Such waste.

But never mind, my babies. Mommy would take good care of you from now on!

I changed my socks and sat on the bed to ponder dinner.

Then I fell asleep.

When I woke, Mr. Handsome was right in front of me.

He kept watching me with an unreadable expression. I had no idea when he had arrived. A moment ago, perhaps. Or long before.

“Why… why are you staring at me?” I asked uncomfortably.

“Your snoring was so loud the neighbors just came to complain.”

“…”

“An accident!” I glanced at him guiltily. “I never used to do that!”

“Mm.” He lowered his eyes. “Xu Ye, you really have changed a great deal.”

“I… actually…” My thoughts tangled so badly I couldn’t form words.

He gave me a long look. “Come out for dinner.”

I watched his back disappear through the doorway.

There was something behind his words.

I might not survive tonight.

“I remember you ate two buckets at lunch.” Mr. Handsome watched me wolfing down dinner, speechless.

Chewing a fish ball, I said, “If you treat every meal as your last supper, you’ll enjoy it more.”

After hearing my profound theory, he continued his pretentious, dainty chewing.

Hopeless student.

Then I suddenly stopped chewing.

Under his silent gaze, I dropped my chopsticks and slumped against the back of my chair. One hand clutched my chest; the other pointed at him. With an expression of extreme pain and a voice full of despair, I said, “You… you poisoned me.”

How despicable. I had imagined ten thousand ways to die. Poison in delicious food was the one I could least accept!

Tears of grievance filled my eyes. “Can’t I even die with a full stomach? Zhi Mu, you have no heart!”

I waited for an explanation before breathing my last in bitter resentment. He simply watched at his leisure.

“Xu Ye. You’re overacting.”

Was I?

My eyes shifted. Sitting up, I stuffed another fish ball into my mouth. “You really didn’t poison the food?”

“I did.”

“Oh.” I picked up a sweet-and-sour rib.

He raised a brow. “You’re still eating when it’s poisoned?”

“What else can I do? I’m already poisoned. Eat less and I die; eat more and I die. If I don’t eat more, I’m getting ripped off!”

“…”

“But you ate it too. Oh, I get it.” I bit my chopsticks and looked at him admiringly. “You love me so much you’re going to die with me.”

His expression worsened. His grip on the chopsticks tightened. “Xu Ye, why do you think I’d be as stupid as you?”

“I don’t. At most, I think you’re stupider,” I retorted automatically.

He smiled. “You dare insult me? Hmm?”

Oh, shit. Life had been too comfortable lately. I’d got carried away.

What I hadn’t told him was that I had insulted him many times. The one time I said it aloud, he shot me.

Looking back over my brief lives…

My lack of backbone really was astonishing.

Since I was already fatally poisoned this time, I decided to be myself.

“So what if I insult you? Don’t you deserve it? You want to shoot me, strangle me, stab me, and now poison me. I honestly don’t understand. Aren’t I your wife? Even if I did something to wrong you before, how could it possibly be so serious that you have to kill me again and again? You even put a tracker in me! Zhi Mu, you’re a total fucking psychopath!”

I poured out all my true thoughts in one breath.

To emphasize my authority, I slammed my chopsticks onto the table.

I watched the half fish ball impaled on them fly off and hit Mr. Handsome square in the face.

His face darkened, faint traces of fish-ball broth still on it. “XU YE!”

He was truly angry. Worse than every previous time.

Bravely, I met his blazing eyes.

Then chickened out at lightning speed.

Um. Was it too late to apologize?

Amen.
