Wild Tranquility - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
But just then, a group of men rushed in from the mouth of the alley, iron rods in hand, looking outrageously arrogant.
“Shen Kuangye, you dare try to take my turf? I’ll beat you to death today.”
The other side wasted no time. An iron rod as thick as a wrist came swinging straight at Shen Kuangye.
Shen Kuangye’s gaze sharpened, and he turned sideways to dodge.
But in that split second, I wrapped my arms around his neck, used every ounce of strength I had to switch places with him, and took the blow for him head-on.
It hurt.
It really hurt.
The price of playing the sympathy card was enormous.
Shen Kuangye wasn’t moved in the slightest. He looked at me like I was an idiot. “Stupid.”
I was in so much pain I couldn’t say a single word.
Shen Kuangye pried my hands off and let me slide to the ground.
Then he stepped over me and went to meet them, his presence overwhelming.
He was famous for fighting like he didn’t care if he lived or died.
Because he had a beautiful face.
Because he didn’t want to be coveted.
It didn’t take long for Shen Kuangye to deal with that group of men.
They lay on the ground, groaning in pain.
Shen Kuangye had taken a few hits too, but he still stood above them, lofty and overbearing.
He kicked the person blocking his way, and the man scrambled aside at once.
Then he left without looking back.
I endured the pain and got to my feet, following close behind him out of the alley.
Shen Kuangye acted as if he’d forgotten I existed, walking on by himself.
But my home and his were in two different directions.
I turned away gloomily.
And counted silently in my heart.
Three.
Two.
One.
“Hey.”
A secret smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.
By the time I turned back, my expression had already become pitiful and helpless.
Shen Kuangye stood not far behind me, one hand in his pocket, the other crooking a finger at me.
I obediently walked over.
When I walked too fast, it pulled at the wound on my back, making me grimace in pain.
When I reached Shen Kuangye, I looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to speak.
He looked me up and down, then hooked a finger under my chin and studied my face carefully.
“What’s your name?”
“Ning Sheng.”
But in truth, that wasn’t my name.
Shen Kuangye nodded. “I’ll remember it.”
He let go of me, then turned and walked away with effortless swagger.
I stared blankly at his retreating back.
That was it?
That was all?
I took a hit for him, at least. Wasn’t he going to say something about taking me to buy medicine or whatever?
As expected, he was cold and heartless.
I turned around and headed back, seething with resentment.
