Zombie Boyfriend Purchase Guide - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Once I promised not to return him, the boy let out a long breath of relief. He patted his chest with his oversized sleeves, his narrow eyes curving into crescents as he smiled.
“Then I’ll be in your care from now on, Xiao Xi.”
His tone was familiar, and he spoke my nickname without the slightest hint of hesitation, as if we were old friends who had known each other for a long time.
Seeing that it was getting late, I brought him a set of new bedding. “Is it alright if I leave the coffin in the living room?”
Wu Gu nodded.
In the middle of the night, as I lay in bed, I felt a constant, eerie chill creeping over me.
Come to think of it, ever since I was a child, my parents had told me never to walk down overly secluded alleys and to make sure I was home before midnight.
“Your horoscope is too weak; you’re prone to attracting unclean things. When you were little, a Great Master came to our house and barely managed to save your life.”
When I was four years old, I had fallen mysteriously and gravely ill. When I finally woke up, my mother had held me, weeping uncontrollably.
Yet, I could never remember what that Great Master who saved me actually looked like.
Vaguely, I recalled a man with long hair…
As I drifted through these thoughts, my body grew colder and colder, as if I had been placed inside an ice cellar.
It felt as though thin strands of hair were winding around my body, covering my nose and mouth, gradually making it impossible to breathe.
“Save… save me…”
I struggled, letting out a weak, wheezing gasp.
“Let her go.”
A deep voice suddenly rang out in the silent room.
It was a man with a cold tone, possessing an aura of natural authority that commanded respect without anger.
With just those three short words, the pressure on my body suddenly vanished.
After a long moment, following a sharp, piercing shriek from the Female Ghost, a pungent smell of blood suddenly erupted in the room.
The air in the room grew inexplicably thick, only to return to normal an instant later.
“Sleep.”
His icy fingertips touched my forehead. His tone was so gentle that it gave me a strange sense of familiarity.
“I’ll stay here with you.”
My eyelids were heavy and exhausted; I couldn’t force them open. Finally, under the man’s soothing presence, I fell into a deep sleep.
Early the next morning, I was woken up by a choking sensation.
Strange black dust was floating in the air.
“What is this?”
I got out of bed and pulled back the curtains. The morning sunlight poured in.
The moment it filled the room, the dust vanished instantly.
Did something happen last night?
When I opened the bedroom door, Wu Gu was also awake. He happened to be sitting up from the Red Coffin, his long robe draped untidily around him, revealing a patch of pale skin.
The moment he saw me, Wu Gu-who had been yawning with sleepy eyes-snapped his watery, blood-red eyes wide open.
“Good morning, Xiao Xi.”
Wu Gu greeted me with a beaming smile, standing up to stretch his body. His decayed joints let out a series of loud pops and cracks.
I watched in a daze. Just how old was Wu Gu?
After a moment, Wu Gu squatted on the floor, watching me change my shoes with curiosity.
“Where are you going?”
“The bathroom is broken. I haven’t had time to call someone to fix it yet, so I’m going to the public restroom downstairs.”
“The bathroom isn’t broken anymore.”
He blinked, gesturing for me to go look.
Was he serious? Was the bathroom’s Female Ghost gone just like that?
Dubious, I went to the bathroom to check.
“It really is gone.”
Not a single strand of hair was in sight. There was only a strange amount of black powder scattered around, looking very similar to what I’d seen in the bedroom.
