A Care Guide for My Evil God Deskmate - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I never thought the first time I’d get chewed out by the dean of students would be because I was suspected of puppy love…
I lowered my head and stared at the patterns on the floor tiles while the dean droned on endlessly above me.
Chen Wuyang, on the other hand, looked completely unconcerned. His pretty face was slack with boredom, and who knew what he was thinking.
Because of my special circumstances, I didn’t attend evening self-study.
So after we came out of the dean’s office, I said to Chen Wuyang, “Are you going back to class?”
Chen Wuyang looked utterly uninterested. At my question, he wrinkled his sharp, high-bridged nose. “How about I go home with you instead?”
I stared at him in speechless disbelief.
That sharply beautiful face gradually enlarged in my vision. Expressionless, I slapped my palm over it, still holding a grudge over how he’d scared me earlier.
Chen Wuyang made a muffled “pffwuh” sound and stubbornly burrowed hard into my palm. Several tentacles slid out from his cuffs and pant legs, and I watched with my own eyes as his human hands and feet turned into slick, slippery tentacles too. I instantly lost my nerve and awkwardly pulled my hand away from his face.
But a pink tentacle wrapped around my retreating wrist, as if reluctant to part with the warmth of a human body.
“You two-!” The dean of students came out holding a water cup. When he saw us, his face turned white with fury, and his trembling hand could barely keep hold of the cup.
I quickly shoved Chen Wuyang along and made our escape before we had to suffer another monk-like lecture.
“I’m going back!” I stood at the school gate, turned around, and waved at Chen Wuyang.
The bell had clearly already rung, but Chen Wuyang acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing. He lazily trailed beside me, a tentacle draped softly over my shoulder.
He didn’t say anything, only waved back at me.
I took one step, then stopped again and turned to Chen Wuyang. “I’m leaving…”
“…Oh.”
Oh, what, bro? Let go with the tentacle!
The cool tentacle felt nice in summer, but don’t stick it to my face!
It was almost touching my mouth…
I couldn’t help tilting my head to dodge. Chen Wuyang’s eyes immediately lit up, and he stared straight at me.
His eyes were very dark, almost letting no light through, but on Chen Wuyang’s face they were beautiful. They suited his excessively pretty features perfectly.
His stare made my scalp tingle. I secretly regretted dodging just now!
Chen Wuyang suddenly smiled and slowly withdrew his tentacle, like a snake sliding back along his body.
“Goodbye, Jiang He.”
His clear voice carried a deliberately affected gentleness, yet my ears still instinctively chased after it.
I snapped out of it quickly and mentally slapped myself twice.
Aaaah, think about what happened to those people before! They all disappeared, and no one remembered them!
Aaaah, stay awake, Jiang He!
As I walked, I slapped myself in the face in the air, then reached into my pocket for my keys and sucked in a sharp breath.
I’d left my keys in my desk!
With no other choice, I had to go back. About ten minutes later, I saw the familiar school gate again.
The school at night was creepy and gloomy. Since the teaching building was all the way at the back, with the field in front, I still had to pass through an abandoned teaching building to get to my classroom.
My heart pounded, but without my keys, I’d have nowhere to shower or sleep. I still had to go.
But it was seriously terrifying, aaaah!
The abandoned building was right ahead. I lowered my head, pulled my school uniform collar up over my mouth, and quickened my pace with my head down, wanting to pass it as fast as possible.
Just as I reached the entrance of the building, a very faint sob suddenly came from inside.
My whole body went rigid. Then a strange crying sound drifted out.
“Save me… Save me…”
At that moment, my neck was as stiff as an old robot in disrepair, creaking as it turned toward the pitch-black doorway.
Lin Yiyi crawled out of the darkness. Her palm-sized face was twisted with terror, and snot and tears were messily smeared together. When she saw me, surprise burst into her eyes. “Save me! You can see, can’t you? Save me!”
The next second, a thick, dark-red tentacle covered in mucus shot out of the darkness, wrapped around Lin Yiyi’s neck, and dragged her back in.
I instinctively threw aside my backpack and ran madly toward the door, reaching out to grab her. “Don’t-!”
I was still a step too late. A streak of blood appeared on the ground, stretching off to who knew where.
I had already stepped one foot into the darkness. When I looked back, the way in had turned into an old wall stained with dark-brown liquid.
Tears started flowing before I could stop them. I reached up to wipe them away, but no matter what I did, I couldn’t get them clean. The more I wiped, the more there were.
“Waaah… Why do I have to run into something like this?!”
I cried while searching for an exit, trying my best to avoid the direction that bloody trail led.
“This is so scary…”
My heart felt like it was about to leap out of my chest…
But no matter how I walked, a slick, heavy dragging sound seemed to be getting closer and closer.
I realized I was trembling. Cold sweat had soaked my back, and my eyes hadn’t blinked in a long time. They stayed wide open, dry and stinging.
Rapid footsteps rang out, seemingly rushing in my direction.
My heart suddenly relaxed. I thought a patrolling school worker had found me.
But would a school worker wear shoes that sounded so crisp?
Doubt rose in my heart. I turned a corner and saw Lin Yiyi again. In an instant, my face went as white as hers.
There was no time to think. I turned and sprinted forward like crazy.
Lin Yiyi followed behind me.
“Aaaaah!” I still couldn’t stop myself from screaming. Cold wind poured into my throat and lungs. “What are you using to run, lady?!”
Lin Yiyi had nothing left below the waist. There was only a pale white skeleton, and bits and pieces of “parts” fell all over the floor as she ran.
My stamina had always been trash. I couldn’t even outrun half a skeleton. Lin Yiyi passed me, grabbed the back of my collar, and threw me backward with all her might.
Her strength was shockingly great. I froze for a moment as my entire body flew through the air, then plummeted rapidly!
“Sorry, die for me!” Lin Yiyi’s expression was very cold, as if she didn’t think what she’d just thrown away was a human life.
The tentacle close behind her paused. Its tip changed direction and caught me steadily.
I hung from the tentacle and let out a breath of relief.
Suddenly, a flash of red streaked past my ear. Another tentacle caught up with Lin Yiyi, who was running at full speed, in the blink of an eye. Its tip flashed with a metallic gleam under the moonlight, and then with a wet “puchi,” it skewered Lin Yiyi.
So scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary so scary!
The urge to vomit surged up inside me. I tried my hardest to hold back my sobs, but tears still fell uncontrollably, drop by drop, onto the tentacle.
The tentacle jostled me, as if weighing how many tears I had left to cry.
Lin Yiyi was still barely alive. She wheezed like a broken bellows, then let out an eerie, crazed laugh.
“Hehe… cough, cough!” She coughed up a few chunks of flesh and screamed wildly, “System! System! You lied to me!”
I didn’t dare speak. I hung from the tentacle like a dead fish and silently shed my tears.
More tentacles appeared in my field of vision.
Their owner slowly emerged from the darkness as well.
Again, there was that heavy, sticky dragging sound.
“Crying again, Jiang He?”
A pair of hands slipped under my armpits and lifted me high like a doll.
When I saw who it was, four huge words immediately appeared in my mind: As expected.
Chen Wuyang leaned in and affectionately bumped the tip of his nose against mine. “You still prefer the human form, don’t you?”
His nonhuman form made him look eerie and dangerous: a pale, gloomy face, terrifying dark-red tentacles. Everything was so wrong, yet so strangely harmonious.
I sat on his arm in the classic child-carrying pose.
The tentacles had piled him up very high. I glanced down and felt dizzy. To avoid falling headfirst, I hugged his neck tightly.
“…Jiang He, you’re going to strangle me,” Chen Wuyang said helplessly.
I hugged him even tighter and broke down. “You’re going to throw me down, aren’t you?! You definitely will, right?!”
“I won’t, I won’t.” A tentacle slid over my back, clumsily trying to comfort me.
Chen Wuyang added, “But I need to eat now. If you’re holding me like this, I can’t.”
“D-do you eat people?” I immediately sensed danger.
A soft snort sounded by my ear, neither denying nor confirming it.
A rustling sound began. I instinctively wanted to turn my head, but a tentacle gently pressed the back of my head down.
“How can you watch a pretty boy eat?”
His Adam’s apple moved… He ate very quickly. A moment later, he let out a satisfied sigh.
“Next, it’s your turn…”
A chill of air blew into my ear.
“Aaaaah!” I shut my eyes and swung a punch at him.
“Ngh!” Chen Wuyang let out a muffled grunt. He turned his chin toward me, and a patch had reddened there. “That hurt!”
“I-I’m sorry!” I cried while apologizing with practiced ease.
Chen Wuyang slowly straightened his head. His misty eyes drew closer, pulling me in as if they had magic.
“Jiang He, you can see, can’t you?”
My soul was instantly dragged back into my body. I stared at him in panic.
Chen Wuyang smiled in satisfaction. Sticky and clingy like his tentacles, he pressed against me and nuzzled my face. “I knew it. You had so much fun playing with my tentacles!”
“No, I didn’t!” I immediately retorted. “I did not, don’t make things up!”
Chen Wuyang bit my left cheek. His teeth gently ground against it as he said indistinctly, “You did. Sometimes you pinched me so hard it hurt!”
“Don’t… make things up…” My brain overloaded. My CPU was about to burn out, and the temperature in my face rose steadily.
“Jiang He, do you like me?” Chen Wuyang coaxed in a low voice. “Say it. Say you like Chen Wuyang.”
At the mention of “like,” my brain became unprecedentedly clear.
Expressionless, I pushed his face away. “Impossible. I only like studying.”
“…Then I’ll eat you!” Chen Wuyang said with a grin.
Aaaah, who hears someone say they don’t like you and immediately decides to eat them?! You’re just lashing out because you’re embarrassed, aren’t you?!
I shook my head like crazy, my tears almost cried dry. “No, no, no, don’t eat me! I’ll do anything you want, just don’t eat me!”
“I don’t have to eat you!”
I felt like I had seen hope.
“Then, Jiang He, date me!”
“Huh?” I froze.
