I carried the pear soup into Jian Yu’s company.

No one stopped me. Everyone had long since grown used to my visits; I was even friendly with the receptionist by now.

“Boss Lin, you’re early today,” Xiaolan greeted me.

Compared to Jian Yu, my family background was hardly worth mentioning. Besides, I wasn’t the one managing the family business. My Alpha sister didn’t ask much of me:

Eat, drink, and have fun if I wanted. Just don’t start a business.

To put it bluntly, I was unemployed. Yet by hanging around Jian Yu, I had somehow acquired the honorific “President Lin.”

“You’re looking good today.” I greeted her and headed straight upstairs to Jian Yu’s office.

Once inside, I set the pear soup on his desk. “Quick, it’s still hot.”

He wasn’t annoyed by the interruption. He tidied the documents on his desk, opened the thermos, and slowly drank the soup.

“Have you found that guy I mentioned?”

“Ahem.” He choked, then looked up at me. “It hasn’t been that long. Are you in a hurry?”

“A little.” I tried to play it cool, but I was actually frantic.

After what had happened, I had to take responsibility, didn’t I?

Of course I was anxious when I couldn’t find him.

“What did he do? Cut out your kidney or steal your money?”

Jian Yu had gotten much sharper-tongued over the years. The old him would never have cracked a joke.

I was still wondering whether I should tell him what had happened.

If I kept quiet, I’d be hiding something from my best bro, which didn’t feel right.

If I told him, it would be far too embarrassing to say aloud.

While I hesitated, Jian Yu seemed to notice my discomfort and changed the subject.

“Song Qiao is going abroad. Are you coming to the get-together tonight?”

After a pause, he said, “I hear she plans to confess before she leaves.”

I answered at once, “Of course I’m going! No question!”

She had only told me to come. She hadn’t mentioned anything about a confession. Jian Yu really was better informed.

The female lead was going to confess to the male lead. Now that was premium entertainment.

I clapped him on the shoulder and teased, “Looks like you’re finally about to come out the other side.”

Jian Yu responded with something that seemed to come out of nowhere.

“The scent…”

“The scent? Oh, you mean on my clothes?”

I had showered and changed before coming over that morning. Nodding with heartfelt understanding, I said:

“So you can smell it too. I don’t know why the new fabric softener I bought is so strong. I thought I was the only one who could.”

He said nothing and finished the soup.

Thinking my best bro was finally about to get his happy ending, I left with a spring in my step.

If the two of them got married, I wasn’t exaggerating when I said I would definitely be the best man. My role in the male and female leads’ romance was absolutely crucial.

Jian Yu kept watching Lin Dong’s retreating back.

Until the door closed completely.

He lowered his head and went back to work.

But the words on the page seemed to jump about, and he couldn’t make himself take in a single one.

He sighed. Seemingly exhausted, he covered his eyes with one hand.

“Come out the other side…?”

There were only two ways for unrequited love to end.

Mutual love, or giving up completely.

Either way, wouldn’t he have come out the other side?

He already had the best friendship in the world.
