After Accidentally Eating the Horror Boss - Chapter 4
The next day, I woke feeling refreshed and invigorated.
I leaned in close to look at my wrist. My contamination level had already fallen to zero.
The shadow wraith responsible for this great achievement had long since vanished.
An alert popped up on my phone.
My wages had arrived: 1,200 yuan.
Thrilled, I opened the shopping page.
The text on the screen was pitifully small. After struggling with it for ages, I finally switched the phone to senior mode.
Once the text was several times larger, I could at last read it.
The money earned in this instance could buy more than everyday necessities. It could also purchase all kinds of items that players could take out of the instance.
There was even a charity portal where people could donate toward better living conditions and food for the test subjects.
But there were no glasses.
Disappointed, I got out of bed and felt my way to the holding area, where I began preparing the test subjects’ food.
While I was cleaning, that same test subject appeared in the corner again.
I could not see its condition clearly, but I had a vague sense that it was doing even worse.
This time, I caught the words it was murmuring.
“It hurts. It hurts so much…”
“Why? Why are they doing this to me?”
“Why does everyone bully me?”
Keeping my distance, I asked as gently as I could, “Who is bullying you?”
It was quiet for a moment before the words burst out of it. “The test subjects! Those test subjects! They hit me and chase me away. They won’t even let me have food!”
That was the complete opposite of the first rule.
“You don’t believe me? Why does none of you believe me? Why do you all pretend you can’t see?” The test subject grew agitated. “Why don’t you believe me? Why? Why?”
I began wondering whether this counted as part of my mission.
Then another thought occurred to me.
Mission or no mission, I would help it.
“I never said I didn’t believe you.” I tried to soothe it. “I’ll find a way to help.”
“Really?” Tears still trembled in its eyes.
“Yes.”
To deal with this, I would have to speak to the administrator.
After thinking it over, I waited until after lunch before making my way to his office.
Squinting, I painstakingly compared my surroundings with the map on my phone as I searched for it.
The office was in a secluded location, and a cold, sinister air seeped from the room.
Standing in the doorway, I described the test subject’s situation to him in painstaking detail.
“That does not conform to the rules.”
The administrator rejected my request.
But then he added, “Not all behavior is governed by the rules.”
Those few words opened this keeper’s eyes.
Shrieks rose one after another from the holding area. A dense wave of blood stench hit my nose.
When it saw me, the test subject came to the edge of the barrier, sobbing.
“Well? Can I live somewhere else?”
I shook my head.
Its beautiful, gentle, dark-brown eyes gradually filled with tears, then turned helpless and despairing.
Even though I could not see clearly, I felt the change in its emotions.
“But it’s all right. I thought of another solution.”
“What?” Its eyes instantly lit up.
I opened my item storage, pulled out a gun, and handed it over.
“Go shoot them all dead.”
