Chen Zui was dead.

It was not long before people came to remove his remains.

They worked quickly. In less than half an hour, the holding area had been cleaned spotless.

The incident had raised my mental contamination level by thirty-seven.

Aside from feeling a little foggy, I did not notice anything unusual.

But there was no telling what would happen if I kept letting the contamination rise.

I lowered my hand and cleaned faster.

Since its own ability did not work on me, the test subject went and sat in the corner.

Its head was enormous, while its body was thin and withered. It looked so top-heavy that it might topple over.

After a moment’s thought, I brought it some fresh feed and held it out. It froze, then snatched the food and ran off.

On my way back after work, I crept down the steps like an elderly man.

Perhaps because I was moving too slowly, the administrator kindly gave me another lift.

He scooped me up and carried me briskly to the dormitory.

His skin possessed a chill that could not possibly belong to a human. It made me even more certain that he had to be the boss of this instance.

Fortunately, he was not hungry, and I was delivered safely to my door.

Fang Huan suddenly bent down, picked up the key card on the floor, and handed it to me. “You dropped this.”

“Thanks.”

I hesitated, then added, “I more or less know my way around now. I’m just a little slow, so you don’t have to trouble yourself by bringing me back next time.”

Fang Huan glanced at the room number behind me.

“It’s no trouble. We live close to each other.”

“Huh?”

“I’m in 404.”

Every hair on my body stood on end.

“We really are close… Ha ha. Well, I’ll be going. Have a good rest.”

I turned stiffly and used the card to open my door.

As the door shut behind me, I thought that I had better look more carefully whenever I came back from now on.

I absolutely could not enter the wrong room.

The human began eating something Fang Huan had never seen before.

Marvellous flavors blossomed in his mouth. Hidden within the wall, Fang Huan once again tasted sensations novel and unique to him.

The maddening hunger inside him gradually subsided. Even the shadow wraiths clinging to the walls grew quiet.

Their features twisted into exaggerated shapes as though they wanted to make a sound, but under Fang Huan’s threatening gaze, they only dared crane their heads and stare curiously at the bag of food.

After finishing his snack, the human went into the bathroom.

Fang Huan stepped out of the wall, retrieved the empty snack bag from the wastebasket, and examined it.

A rich smell of food lingered inside, and a few crumbs had collected at the bottom. Fang Huan dabbed up a little and put it in his mouth.

Still no taste.

Fang Huan found that terribly disappointing. He wanted the human to eat more.

The contamination had left my head heavy and muddled. Even after I fell asleep, the feeling barely faded.

In my haze, I dreamed that the ghost living in my room seeped into my skin and swam beneath it, exploring.

The sensation was strange, especially when it gathered at the top of my head.

My brain began to itch. It felt as though a tongue had licked it.

One lick was not enough. Whoever it was licked it several more times.

The itching woke me up by force.

This time, I could be certain that the handsome ghost with the chiseled abs was not merely a dream.

Because at the edge of my vision, he was lying beside me.

Normally, I would definitely have teased him.

But I felt awful today and only wanted to rest.

“Hello, ghost.”

“Are you still going to eat me today?”

The shadowy figure was silent for a long moment.

“Not today.”

I nodded in agreement.

“That’s what I think too. I like you a lot, but it would be better to take things slowly.”

Fang Huan was puzzled.

I went on, “My brain itches. Were you licking it?”

“Could you stop licking my brain? It’s too itchy.”

The shadow did not answer, but the numbing, ticklish sensation did stop.

As I lay in bed, the feeling of my brain being licked seemed to linger inside my head.

When I savored it carefully, it was not actually unpleasant. It even felt rather good. The fog that had clouded my mind had cleared considerably too.

Confused, I raised my hand to look.

My contamination level had actually fallen.

Could being licked by a ghost lower my contamination?

I dropped my hand and called back the shadow that was about to leave.

“Never mind, ghost. You can keep licking.”
