After I Died, My Gentle Husband Became a Dark Widower - Chapter 2

I had no idea how much time had passed.

When I opened my eyes again, a torrent of comments filled my vision.

[Boohoo, come back! After you died, the bottom went on a rampage! He’s tortured the top out of his mind!]

[Our perfectly good forced-love story turned into horror! The gentle husband became a sinister widower and the big bad!]

[We all watched ads for five years to bring you back!]

[Please, go do something about your husband!]

I frowned.

What were they babbling about?

Xie Qiyan was so gentle and kind. He couldn’t possibly have become what they were describing.

I instinctively looked away from the comments and took in my surroundings.

Then I froze.

Everything was so familiar.

The warm yellow ceiling light. The little flowers on the windowsill. The bright, happy photograph of us on the wall…

This was our little home!

Excitement surged through me.

I really had come back to life!

I leaped out of bed, ready to find Xie Qiyan and reunite with him.

Two steps later, common sense returned.

Wait.

I didn’t have a phone, and I had no idea where he was.

Going out to look would be pointless.

I might as well be good and wait for him at home.

So I flopped back onto the bed and idly studied the little room I hadn’t seen in so long.

Creak.

Suddenly, the door was pushed open with great care.

Was it Xie Qiyan?

Delighted, I sat up and looked over.

Instead, I met the eyes of a man dressed like a butler.

His pupils contracted as though he had seen a ghost.

“Where did this woman come from?!”

I was baffled.

“This is my house. I should be asking you that.”

The butler didn’t hear a word of it.

He rushed toward me, shouting in terror, “Who gave you permission to set foot in here?”

“Don’t you know what happened to the people who tried to put women in Mr. Xie’s bed? And now you dare to send one here… You must have a death wish!”

He seized my arm roughly.

“Get out! If Mr. Xie sees you, you’re dead!”

Naturally, I objected.

I struggled hard against him.

“Who’s here?”

A detached voice came from the doorway.

The butler went rigid.

I looked over curiously—and froze too.

Xie Qiyan.

His features were more mature, more sharply defined. He was taller, his build longer and broader than before.

Even his bearing had changed. There was an air of wealth and aloofness that had never been there before.

But however much he had changed, how could I fail to recognize my own husband?

My eyes instantly reddened. Instinctively, I wanted to throw myself into his arms, just as I always had.

Then the world spun.

By the time I understood what was happening, he had me pinned to the bed by the throat.

His hand was as cold as a venomous snake.

Bit by bit, it squeezed the air out of me.

He stared at my face, expressionless, but a terrifying fury raged in his eyes.

“Who gave you the nerve…”

“To have surgery to look like her?”
