After I Died, My Gentle Husband Became a Dark Widower - Chapter 3
I was completely dumbfounded.
What surgery?
This was my original, all-natural face!
But when I opened my mouth to argue, I discovered, to my horror, that I couldn’t make a sound.
The comments looked guilty.
[Sorry, girl. Forgot to mention something.]
[Bringing you back to life goes against the natural order. You can’t let anyone find out.]
[So we’ll have to mute certain things you say.]
We’re in a novel! What natural order?
Despair washed over me.
All I could do was watch as the hand around my throat tightened.
Seriously?
Was I about to become the first person to get resurrected and immediately head back to the sweet hereafter?
Fate, you absolute bastard.
At that thought, I began to cry in earnest.
To my surprise, Xie Qiyan went still.
He looked at my tear-streaked face. I had no idea what it reminded him of.
His grip suddenly loosened.
Fresh air rushed into my lungs. I coughed helplessly.
Beside my ear, he said very softly, “Forget it.”
“I still can’t bear to see this face in pain again…”
Only then did the butler let out a relieved breath.
He hurried forward to persuade him.
“Mr. Xie, don’t waste your time on a woman trying to worm her way into your bed.”
“There’s no end to them. They’ll only ruin your mood.”
“The board meeting is about to start. Perhaps you should leave?”
Then he turned and glared at me, lowering his voice.
“What are you standing around for? Get out!”
I snapped out of my daze and promptly made myself scarce.
Of course I desperately wanted to be reunited with Xie Qiyan.
But if I stayed under these circumstances, I would probably be reunited with my great-grandmother first.
Staying alive took priority.
I twisted the broken lock on the front door and was about to step outside when—
“Wait.”
Xie Qiyan spoke suddenly.
He strode over and clamped a hand around my wrist, breathing hard.
“How did you know how to open that lock?”
Only then did it hit me.
Our busted old lock was rusty and stiff.
Even a god would have to jiggle it back and forth a few times first.
But I had opened it in one go.
I opened my mouth to explain that there was no secret to it, just practice.
Predictably, I was muted again.
Apparently, I could only say things that fit my new character now.
So I had to say, “I took lessons from a locksmith. Makes it easier to get into people’s houses and climb into their beds.”
Xie Qiyan narrowed his eyes at me.
His gaze had the sharpness of a man who had spent years fighting his way through the business world. It felt as though he could see straight into me.
I squirmed under that stare.
Finally, he spoke.
“Fine.”
Thinking that meant he was letting me go, I started to leave.
But his hand never loosened.
“You want to get into my bed, don’t you?”
Staring at me, he said in a low voice, each word deliberate, “I’ll allow it.”
“Tonight, you’ll be in my bed.”
