Chapter 3

This time, I chose to go in myself.

Trembling, I brought the teacup to Qin Jingze’s hand.

As he reached for it, he shot me a sidelong glance.

That look was like something from a demon in hell. It was as if Qin Jingze wanted to flay me, strip out my tendons, and swallow me whole.

I was so startled by his gaze that my hand shook without my realizing it.

A few drops of tea sloshed out of the cup. Before I could react, they had already vanished from sight.

I slowly lowered my head to look. Two glaringly obvious water stains had appeared in the center of Qin Jingze’s brand-new, bright yellow dragon robe.

Still holding the teacup, I dropped to my knees on instinct.

“This slave deserves ten thousand deaths. Your Majesty, please spare my life.”

Qin Jingze gave two cold laughs and raised a hand to pinch my chin.

“These days, it seems any stray cat or dog can come serve before me. You can’t even hold a cup of tea steady. Useless trash!”

The air went deathly still.

In my heart, I prayed he would let me go.

The next moment, Qin Jingze’s hand clamped around my throat. His fingers tightened with force.

I felt as if he was about to snap my neck.

My mind went completely blank.

I had to reload.

I had to go back.

I couldn’t die here.

I had only just formed the first word in my mind when Qin Jingze flung me hard onto the floor.

Clutching his head, he strode toward the inner chamber.

“His Majesty’s headache has flared up again! Hurry and summon the imperial physician!”

I was ordered to kneel in the courtyard outside the bedchamber and pray for His Majesty. Once His Majesty recovered, they would decide how to punish me.

Watching the imperial physicians hurry back and forth around me, I secretly let out a breath of relief.

Ever since the Tyrant ascended the throne, his headaches had acted up every few days, and each episode took many days to pass.

By the time he recovered, he would probably have forgotten all about me.

Thank heavens.

Qin Jingze’s headache truly could not have come at a better time.

Chapter 4

Late at night, when all was still and quiet.

Two young palace maids walked past me, carrying the medicine they had prepared for Qin Jingze.

The unbearably bitter smell drifted through the air and slowly entered my nose. I couldn’t help frowning.

Qin Jingze had to be forced to drink a bowl of bitter medicine like that every ten days or two weeks. No wonder he wanted to chop people’s heads off every day.

Being emperor wasn’t so easy after all.

As I thought about it, my eyelids slowly drooped.

Soon, they stuck together.

My head began to bob as well.

A pair of black boots suddenly appeared in front of me, and a tall figure cast me entirely in shadow.

Sensing danger, I jolted awake from my dream.

Nervous, I quietly glanced upward.

The moment my eyes met the Tyrant’s, every last trace of sleep vanished.

“Your Majesty, please spare my life.”

I had only just knelt and kowtowed when Qin Jingze scooped me up from the ground by the waist.

Shaking with fear, I shrank in Qin Jingze’s arms.

My head was pressed tightly against Qin Jingze’s chest. Listening to his steady, orderly heartbeat, one beat after another, my own heart somehow began to beat out of rhythm.

He carried me into the bedchamber and casually tossed me onto the dragon bed.

One hand pressed hard against my throat.

Qin Jingze was going to strangle me.

But very quickly, I realized something was wrong.

The hand Qin Jingze had on my neck never changed in strength, while his other hand had started restlessly tearing at my clothes.

His warm breath brushed against the side of my face.

My brow twitched violently.

When Qin Jingze hugged my neck and began biting and kissing it, it further confirmed my suspicion.

I struggled with all my might. “Your Majesty, you’ve mistaken me for someone else. I’m Xiao Ningzi. Please stop kissing me.”

Qin Jingze frowned in displeasure, took a handkerchief from inside his robes, and stuffed it into my mouth.

Hiss… It hurt so much…

Qin Jingze worked over me tirelessly.

It was as if he didn’t know how to get tired.

I couldn’t make a sound as I cried, and tears slid down from the corners of my eyes.

I was so exhausted that my mind went completely numb, and I forgot all about reloading.

In my heart, I cursed the person who had drugged Qin Jingze over and over again.

If you wanted to sleep with Qin Jingze, couldn’t you at least pick the right moment?

You really screwed me over this time.
