Chapter 5

Before dawn, my biological clock woke me up.

I had only just sat up from the imperial bed when the pain twisted my entire face out of shape.

I reached up, pulled the handkerchief from my mouth, tossed it aside, then clenched my teeth and carefully crawled out of Qin Jingze’s arms.

Sitting on the floor, I began thinking about what to do next.

Loading a save could only take me back to the previous night.

If I couldn’t find the reason Qin Jingze had lost control, then I would have to go through everything that happened last night all over again.

Once I returned to the save point, the load would take effect automatically, and the story would begin anew.

If I really couldn’t find whatever had been used to drug Qin Jingze, I would have to endure another whole night.

I didn’t dare look at Qin Jingze lying on the bed at all.

My mind was filled with the debauchery of last night.

I had to load the save. I had to.

If I waited until Qin Jingze woke up, I wouldn’t have a single path left to survival.

He would definitely chop me up and feed me to the dogs.

Qin Jingze was a severe clean freak. On any normal day, if some young palace maid or eunuch tried to touch him, the light punishment was being beaten into a cripple. The heavy punishment was death.

And I had spent an entire night defiling him in the flesh.

I didn’t even dare imagine what my ending would be.

In my heart, I silently recited: go back to yesterday at noon.

From noon to afternoon yesterday, Qin Jingze’s headache had been especially severe. If I used that time to search carefully, I would definitely be able to snuff out the danger in its cradle.

After the four words “beginning save load” rang in my ears, I was so busy feeling happy that I completely failed to notice Qin Jingze’s fingers twitch ever so slightly.

Ten seconds later, I was back at noon the previous day.

I knelt in the courtyard outside the bedchamber, watching the imperial physicians coming and going around me.

I began frantically thinking of a plan.

I straightened my back, and the familiar soreness washed over me. The expression on my face instantly froze.

The sticky feeling by my legs made me go rigid.

Damn it. Everything that shouldn’t have come back with me had come back.

On the very first day I bonded with the save-load system, it told me that after using the save-load system, the right of final explanation for any and all problems belonged to the save-load system. I only had the right to use it, not the right to question it.

Taking advantage of a moment when there were fewer people around, I held my waist and carefully shuffled into a corner.

After Qin Jingze’s headache acted up, he had taken medicine twice and eaten one meal.

There had to be something wrong with those things. As long as I dealt with them, tonight would be a peaceful night.

Chapter 6

I followed behind a group of palace servants and slipped into the Imperial Kitchen.

The Imperial Medical Academy had specifically set aside two rooms in the Imperial Kitchen just to brew medicine for Qin Jingze.

There were people watching all around the Imperial Kitchen. The fact that someone had managed to drug the food only proved that the person drugging the emperor was no ordinary figure.

If an ordinary palace maid or eunuch went through all kinds of trouble to obtain the drug, they would be caught the moment they put it in.

The guards Qin Jingze trained were no pushovers.

The emperor had a younger full-blooded sister, sixteen this year. Her study companion was the prime minister’s legitimate daughter, Xu Zhaoning.

If Xu Zhaoning was behind this, then Princess Yueyao had to be supporting her from the shadows.

Princess Yueyao must also want her good friend to become the Tyrant’s consort.

I hid in the dark, and before long, several palace maids from Princess Yueyao’s side arrived.

One of the palace maids deliberately lured two guards away, then took out two packets of powdered medicine and poured them separately into Qin Jingze’s two bowls of medicine.

Two other palace maids also drugged the soup and dishes in Qin Jingze’s lunch.

No wonder Qin Jingze hadn’t stopped all night. With that kind of dosage, the fact that he hadn’t died on the spot was already a testament to his luck.

No drug should ever be used in such a huge amount.

What if Qin Jingze died of exhaustion in bed? Had they ever thought about the consequences?

“A rat ate His Majesty’s food and medicine! The rat ran under the table! Hurry, catch the rat!”

The moment the people in the Imperial Kitchen heard there was a rat, the whole place fell into chaos.

Only after I personally watched the drugged items all get dumped into the slop bucket did I finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Somehow, news that a rat had gotten into the Imperial Kitchen reached Qin Jingze’s ears.

Qin Jingze refused everything sent over from the Imperial Kitchen.

Qin Jingze said that just hearing there had been rats made him lose all appetite, and that he would eat again when the palace had cleaned out every last rat.

Kneeling on the ground outside the bedchamber, I couldn’t have been happier.

This was double insurance.

Qin Jingze wouldn’t eat anything tonight. That meant I was even safer.

The sky gradually darkened.

I slowly opened my eyes.

Then I looked toward the tightly shut palace hall and revealed a satisfied smile.

Tonight was absolutely, definitely going to be a peaceful night.

The next second, the smile on my face froze.

Qin Jingze had come out.

Once again, he held me in his arms.

The story repeated itself. Once again, I was pushed down onto the bed.

Before I could say anything, Qin Jingze had already started going through the process.

Maybe it was my imagination, but I felt that after loading the save, the Tyrant seemed even more enthusiastic than before. His movements also seemed smoother.

Pinned beneath him on the bed, I bit down hard on the quilt.

I didn’t want the Tyrant stuffing a handkerchief into my mouth again, and I didn’t want the people outside to hear me either.

My frantic breathing was mixed with frantic thinking.

Qin Jingze had still been drugged. That meant the problem wasn’t with the food or medicine.

His headache had acted up in the morning, and he had spent the entire day holed up in the bedchamber.

That meant something in the bedchamber was the problem.

Give me one more chance. This time, I would definitely succeed.

I would definitely succeed.

The marks on my body couldn’t disappear when I loaded a save, and I had suffered enough last night.

If there really was no avoiding it…

Then I might as well give this opportunity to someone who wanted to climb into his bed.

If someone like that died, it would be because their intentions were impure.

But if a well-behaved, law-abiding person like me died, that would be far too unjust.

I looked back at the Tyrant.

Load the save. Return to yesterday at noon.

I refused to believe that if I kept loading saves, I still wouldn’t find a way to clear this level.
