Chapter 2

I had an addiction.

I was always up in the middle of the night in my rented apartment, glued to my computer as I read those spicy danmei novels.

Whenever I reached the most stimulating parts, I had to take a sip of water to cool myself down.

But play by the river long enough and eventually you’ll get your shoes wet. One careless slip, and I spilled water all over my computer. Electricity leaked through it, electrocuting me to death.

Just like the protagonist of a novel, I was bound to a System and given a mission to win over my target.

If I succeeded, I’d receive a hundred million yuan.

But after sending me to a new world, the System only told me that my assigned role was the male lead’s addicted adopted younger brother in a danmei novel. Then it vanished.

At first, I was ecstatic about my character setup. “Two male leads, pseudo-incest, and an addiction? This role was practically made for me!”

A moment later, I let out a howl of despair-

“I don’t know a single thing about the original host!”

“System, where did you go?!”

When I woke up, I discovered that the original host had injured his head in a car accident and spent two months lying in a hospital bed in a vegetative state.

Naturally, I pretended to have amnesia.

Then I returned home.

My adopted older brother was an aloof, stone-faced weirdo. He was nothing like the male lead of a danmei novel, and his moral standards were terrifyingly high.

I could see his Favorability score.

-[0]

To win him over, I drew upon everything I’d learned from my countless novels and pulled out all the stops to seduce and tease him.

I even drugged his water and helped myself to the buffet.

At last, I plucked that untouchable flower and wore him down until he agreed to be with me. After that, I completely let myself go.

The rooftop, the bathroom, the study, the floor-to-ceiling windows…

I didn’t leave a single place untouched.

Chen Jiangye’s Favorability fluctuated wildly.

One second it would be at zero, and one kiss would send it soaring to sixty. As for when we were going at it, my vision would be too blurred with tears for me to spare any attention for his Favorability.

Even when I deliberately tried to distract myself by looking, he would seal my lips with a kiss.

“Ah Ran, you’re distracted.”

“If your mind can wander at a time like this, does that mean what your brother is giving you still isn’t enough?”

I would fall apart completely. After that, I never tried to peek at his Favorability during those moments again.

There was only one exception. I got so carried away riding him that my vision blurred, and I thought the number had reached 100. I was so thrilled that I passed out on the spot.

When I woke up the next morning, I discovered it was actually 70.

I was disappointed for quite a while.

Over those three years, although Chen Jiangye’s Favorability had a habit of rising and falling, it increased steadily overall as time passed. I couldn’t have been more satisfied.

Not long ago, even when I was merely sitting in his executive office, drinking milk as I waited for him to finish work, his Favorability shot all the way up to 90.

Just when I thought he was hopelessly in love with me, the System, which had been missing for three years, suddenly reappeared with a shriek and told me the red number had never been Favorability at all.

It was the Hatred Value.

My whole world came crashing down!

I couldn’t accept that Chen Jiangye hated me-hated me so, so much.

But when I thought about it carefully, the signs had been there all along-

He was straight and detested being touched by another man. That was why his Hatred Value rose every time I kissed or teased him.

Everything I’d done over the past three years had been torture for him.

If I hadn’t been his younger brother, he probably would have thrown me into the villa’s pool to feed the sharks long ago.

To make Chen Jiangye hate me less, I tearfully resolved to turn over a new leaf.

From then on, I never dared harbor any improper thoughts about him again!
