“Why do we have to sleep apart?”

“Is it because I didn’t satisfy you today?”

His words snapped me back to my senses.

At first, I nodded rapidly like a chick pecking at grain. Then my survival instincts kicked in, and I shook my head furiously.

“I just think it’s getting hot now. It’s too warm with two people in one bed, so we’d both be more comfortable sleeping separately.”

Chen Jiangye suddenly said, “We have air conditioning.”

He glanced at my fingers picking at the blanket, took a deep breath, and softened his voice. “All right. We’ll do it your way.”

I slipped into the guest bedroom.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that Chen Jiangye hadn’t wanted to be separated from me just now.

He was usually cold and aloof, but he’d never made me feel as if he was in a bad mood before.

Just as I began doubting myself, the System suddenly cheered.

Early the next morning, just as I finished washing up, Chen Jiangye squeezed into the bathroom. Without warning, he lifted me onto the marble vanity and bent down to kiss me.

His knee parted my legs.

The kiss was fiercer and hungrier than ever before, conquering every inch of my mouth.

His voice was hoarse. “You were the one who asked for this. I have to give you a good-morning kiss every morning, remember?”

He kissed me until I went limp in his arms. Dazed, I leaned against his chest and heard a rapid thump, thump, thump.

It was deafening.

His heart was beating so fast. Could he like me too…?

Just then, the System shrieked.

I abruptly came to my senses and shoved Chen Jiangye away.
