Chapter 3

It was Lin Ying.

As her name suggested, she was a beautiful female beastman whose original form was a nightingale.

She was also the daughter of Yin Ran’s mentor.

It wasn’t until after we married that I learned if a 100% Match hadn’t appeared, Yin Ran would most likely have ended up with her.

They were a true match in terms of social standing.

Yin Ran was quietly listening to Lin Ying throw a tantrum.

Suddenly, his nose twitched. He looked up and caught my gaze.

“You’re here.”

Yin Ran took a long stride toward me.

“I need to clarify something. This situation isn’t what you think-”

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt!” I cut him off quickly.

Clarify what? If anyone was in the wrong here, it was me!

“I just heard you two mention you had dinner plans? What a coincidence! The ch-I mean, I made a lot of food. You two can eat together so it doesn’t go to waste. Hehe, I’ll head out now. Take your time chatting!

“Oh, right. Yin Ran, if you’re busy, you don’t have to come home tonight. I won’t leave the light on for you.”

Yin Ran’s brow slowly furrowed.

But I didn’t look at him at all. I turned and bolted.

Once outside, I sent a message to the Management Bureau.

[Who is Yin Ran’s actual 100% Match?]

[It’s still unclear. The data is still being recovered, but it is certain that he has one.]

Hm, then I probably know who it is.

[Hurry up with the recovery. Your efficiency is way too low. Why don’t you put in some overtime? Try a 996 schedule.]

[What does 996 mean?]

[Forget it, I can’t explain it to you.]

Just as I was about to tuck my phone back into my pocket, another message arrived.

[By the way, Ms. Tao, barring any accidents, your portion of the records should be restored soon. At that time, I will immediately send you the information regarding your 100% Match.]

[O98K.]

[What does that mean?]

[Don’t ask.]

That night, I was peacefully enjoying some time alone.

Against all odds, Yin Ran came back.

I really hadn’t left a light on for him, so the living room was pitch black.

He didn’t turn on the lights either, his tall silhouette standing before me.

I rubbed my eyes and yawned. “Why did you come back after all?”

“This is my home. Am I not allowed back?”

“Ah, that’s not what I meant.”

“Tao Zhi.”

“Yeah?”

“There is nothing between Lin Ying and me. We were never together in the past. People outside said I would marry her, but that was never true. I only see her as a comrade-in-arms.

“The dinner today was because it’s her birthday. She asked me out for a meal in advance, and I thought there would be many people attending, so I agreed. But I forgot about it today, which is why she came looking for me.”

Yin Ran dropped his usual silence and rattled off a long explanation.

I waved my hand dismissively. “It’s fine. You forgot her invitation, so did you apologize properly? I don’t know much about female beastmen, but we’re all girls, so it should be about the same. Just coax her a bit and she’ll be fine.”

“Is that true for you too?” he suddenly asked.

In the darkness, Yin Ran’s eyes glowed with a faint green light.

This was the sign of a wolf beastman locking onto his target.

“Me? I don’t need you to coax me. I’m perfectly fine.”

I wasn’t being sarcastic.

But Yin Ran suddenly leaned down and swept me up into his arms.

He became unusually fierce and proactive. He hadn’t even taken off that dark uniform I’d been obsessed with; the cold metal buttons scraped against my skin, making me tremble all over.

In the dark, I heard the sound of a belt buckle being undone.

I summoned a sliver of rationality to stop his next move.

“Wait, put one on first.”

“Put what on?”

“A little umbrella.”

Yin Ran froze. “When did you buy those?”

“Today…”

I didn’t dare say it was because he had suddenly wanted to do it when he came home at noon. I was afraid he was serious, so I hurried out to buy a box in the afternoon.

“Why did you buy these? Haven’t you always wanted a child?”

“Cough, I’ve thought it through. I’m still young. We can talk about children later.”

Before, I had thought about using a child to secure my position. To get clues about going home, I was willing to give up anything.

But that path was clearly a dead end now.

The most urgent matter was to reduce my entanglements with Yin Ran, so that when the truth finally came out, I wouldn’t be caught in the blast radius of his fury.

I proactively took out the little umbrella to put it on him.

Yin Ran didn’t move.

“You’ve been really strange lately.”

“I haven’t…”

“You have,” Yin Ran said firmly. “In the past, you were always very proactive about this. But today, no matter how I kiss you, you don’t respond anymore.

“Before, you used to call me ‘hubby’ non-stop. You’d even harass me while I was working, saying you wanted to see my chest muscles. But now, you only call me by my name.

“What exactly is wrong with you?”

Since things had reached this point, a quick pain was better than a slow ache.

I gathered my courage and said, “Yin Ran, I want a divorce.”
