Aladdin Clam - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“Your mother… had her reasons. She has no choice right now, so she can’t see you for the time being.”
Shen Shixian sneered. “What reasons? Didn’t she just abandon her husband and child and run off with someone else?”
Me: ???!!!
The Clam instantly exploded in my head. “When did I ever abandon my husband and child?! It must have been that bastard Shen Yao! He must have said all kinds of awful things about me behind my back!”
I quickly cleared my throat. “Your mom says your dad was talking nonsense. She never abandoned you. All these years, she’s missed you terribly. Day and night, she’s been thinking of you.”
Shen Shixian took a step closer. “Don’t think you can trick me just because you’re claiming to be my mother’s friend.”
The Clam sounded pitiful. “How did Dandan become like this? He used to listen to everything I said…”
Shen Shixian advanced on me, step by step.
“I looked into you. Orphan. No parents. After graduating from college, you went back to the director’s hometown. So how exactly did you meet my mother?”
Maybe his presence was too overpowering, because for a moment, I couldn’t withstand the pressure.
I actually reached into my pocket and pulled out a box.
I opened it. Inside was another smaller box.
I opened that too. A white Clam lay quietly inside.
When I’d first picked it up, it had been black. I had scrubbed it white.
Shen Shixian: “???”
He flicked it away casually.
“What is this?”
The Clam went rolling across the carpet, spun twice, then rolled straight under the sofa.
Me: “!!!”
“Your mom!”
Shen Shixian’s expression darkened. “So when you can’t explain yourself, you start cursing at me?”
“Believe me or not, I can have the police take you away right now.”
In a panic, I pointed under the sofa. “It really is your mom under there!”
Shen Shixian pulled out his phone and entered 110.
I had no time to worry about appearances. I stuck my butt in the air and reached under the sofa.
“I’m not lying to you! It really is your mom, Xu Rong!”
“She’s the one who told me to come find you!”
“You haven’t seen your mother since you were three, have you?”
“Your dad blamed your mom for disappearing. Everything he told you was a lie…”
“The truth is, your mom was harmed by someone… and her body was dumped in the river.”
The fury in Shen Shixian’s eyes turned to panic. He grabbed me and hauled me up.
“What nonsense are you spouting? How could my mom possibly…”
I stamped my foot anxiously. “Can you lend me a stick first? Let’s drag your mom out before we talk!”
He signaled to a bodyguard, who handed over a long pole. In a few moves, the Clam was nudged out from under the sofa.
I carefully picked up the Clam, blew the dust off it, and muttered softly, “You can’t blame me for this… He was the one who wouldn’t believe me.”
The Clam sighed in my head. “You really don’t have a single bit of talent for fraud.”
Excited, I lifted the Clam and shouted at Shen Shixian, “Did you hear that? Your mom just spoke!”
His eyes darkened. “I didn’t hear anything. I never should have believed you!”
As he spoke, he moved to press the call button again.
I hurriedly stopped him and shook the Clam hard. “Say something already! He doesn’t believe me!”
The Clam shrieked, “Quick! Tell him he has a red mole on the left side of his butt!”
