Chapter 3

At the deepest part of Black Stone Valley lay a cavern, usually reserved for confining Su Zhichuan.

When Ning Fuyin was led inside, she was first met with the pungent, metallic scent of blood. Then, she saw the broken iron chains on the ground and a man kneeling on one knee before the stone wall.

Su Zhichuan was shirtless, the muscles of his upper body pulled taut like a bow drawn to its limit. Black beast markings crawled from his spine up to the back of his neck, as if something living were about to burst through his flesh.

When he looked up, his pupils had narrowed into golden vertical slits, nearing his beast form.

He was so dangerous it made one’s scalp tingle.

Seven or eight people stood at the cave entrance, but not a single one dared to approach.

Ming Xingye was there as well.

He was a man even colder and more detached than Su Zhichuan. His white hair was tied back, his features as faint and ethereal as snow, and he wore the silver-patterned robes unique to a Priest.

The data floating above his head was equally grim.

[Ming Xingye: Bloodline Stability Value 18]
[Current Fertility Value 14]
[Cold Poison Erosion Degree 66%]

However, he was clearly in no position to worry about himself right now.

“You said you could see what’s wrong with the Chief.”

Ming Xingye looked toward Ning Fuyin, his voice cold and restrained. “Then speak.”

Ning Fuyin was in no rush to answer.

She first looked at Su Zhichuan’s wrists.

There were dark, bruised indentations there-marks left by the long-term, dual suppression of the Forbidden Hunting Drug and iron chains.

The system prompt popped up almost the moment she drew near.

[Incorrect Treatment: Forced restraint, continuous feeding of manic-depressants.]
[Consequences: Short-term calm, long-term bloodline chain rupture.]
[Current Optimal Treatment: Cease Forbidden Hunting Drug, reduce heat source, establish scent anchors, apply a small amount of Cold Mist Grass juice topically.]

Ning Fuyin frowned.

“Who gave him the Forbidden Hunting Drug?”

Wei Cang was taken aback. “The people from the Holy Temple said this was the only way to keep the Chief from losing control.”

“Bullshit.”

The word slipped out, leaving everyone in the cave stunned.

Ning Fuyin walked quickly to the stone table, picked up the bone bowl containing the medicine, and sniffed it. Her expression darkened immediately.

“This contains Crimson Scorch Root and Restless Bone Powder.”

“These two ingredients provide a brief numbing of the nerves to make him appear calm, but the bloodline conflict is driven entirely into the bone marrow.”

“He isn’t being saved; he’s being systematically ruined.”

Ming Xingye’s gaze shifted slightly.

“Are you certain?”

“I am.”

Ning Fuyin pointed to the blood-red veins snaking across Su Zhichuan’s chest.

“True berserkification burns the nerves first, then disrupts the breath, and finally manifests in the bloodline. But his external markings are erupting first, which proves the problem isn’t his beast nature at all-it’s the medicine.”

“Three more doses and even if he doesn’t die, he will completely lose the ability to transform.”

As soon as she spoke, the faces of everyone in the cave turned incredibly grim.

The people of Black Stone Valley had been exiled here precisely because they had once refused a “Blessing Marriage” arranged by the Holy Temple.

They claimed not to trust the Holy Temple, yet they had still used the medicines sent by the temple over the years.

As it turned out, the so-called suppression drug was actually a slow-acting poison.

Ning Fuyin gave them no time to process this.

“Go and bring all the Cold Mist Grass you gathered today.”

“I also need a basin of cold spring water, clean animal hides, and Gray Salt.”

“Hurry.”

Wei Cang instinctively looked at Ming Xingye.

The White Wolf Priest remained silent for two breaths before nodding.

“Do as she says.”

The crowd finally sprang into action.

When Ning Fuyin knelt before Su Zhichuan, the man suddenly reached out and clamped his hand around her wrist.

His strength was staggering.

“How do you intend to save me?”

His voice was hoarse, strained with a beast-like low growl.

Ning Fuyin’s wrist throbbed with pain, but she didn’t back away.

“First, by making sure people stop poisoning you.”

Su Zhichuan stared at her, as if trying to determine if she was prey or a liar.

After a moment, he let go.

Ning Fuyin immediately soaked the animal hide in the cold spring water, mixed it with the juice of the Cold Mist Grass, and pressed it against the blood-red veins on his chest.

Su Zhichuan let out a muffled groan, his back suddenly tensing.

“Endure it.”

Her tone wasn’t soft, and her movements weren’t gentle.

“Every time you go mad now, your body becomes more accustomed to breaking down. You aren’t ‘holding on’; you’re throwing your life away to act tough.”

Perhaps because no one had ever scolded him like that before, Su Zhichuan actually stopped moving.

While applying the topical treatment, Ning Fuyin had him stop the Forbidden Hunting Drug and forced him to drink the Gray Salt mixed with cold spring water to flush his stomach.

The entire process was as perilous as trying to pull the teeth of a wild beast that could rip her throat out at any second.

An hour later, the sweat on Su Zhichuan’s forehead finally began to recede.

The numbers above his head shifted slowly.

[Bloodline Stability Value 12 → 19]
[Rampage Rate 87% → 63%]

Ning Fuyin stared at the data, a massive wave of relief washing over her.

It worked.

It actually worked.

Just as she stood up, her vision suddenly went black, and she began to topple sideways.

A powerful arm caught her steadily.

Su Zhichuan still radiated a lingering heat as his voice fell low against her ear.

“Ning Fuyin.”

“You had better not be lying to me.”

Ning Fuyin closed her eyes. Her voice was weak, but she remained defiant.

“If I really wanted to lie to you, I would have just let you die faster.”
