Becoming the Cold Little Bird's White Moonlight - Chapter 1
This was my first transmigration, and my mission was simple—become a sinister young man’s white moonlight.
One day, this young man would become a world-destroying villain.
All I had to do was show him warmth while he was still weak and become the unattainable white moonlight in his heart. Then my mission would be complete.
Normally, a white moonlight didn’t get much screen time, so the mission should have been easy.
Unfortunately, there had been a slight error in the transmigration system. It had dropped me into the story a little too early.
Um…
I looked at the tail feather in my hand, then at the furious little bird in front of me.
“Host, please win over your mission target and become the sinister young man’s white moonlight.”
The System’s merciless voice rang out.
The little bird before me was my mission target—the sinister young man, the great world-destroying antagonist. Except he hadn’t taken human form yet. Right now, he was merely an ordinary demon bird.
[The character *zhi* means a fierce bird of prey.]
The description hadn’t lied. He truly was a gloomy young bird of prey.
Before transmigrating, I had studied all kinds of strategies for winning over targets with different personalities… but no one had told me I’d have to do it across species!
Could someone please tell me how I was supposed to win over a bird? A bird whose butt feather I had just plucked, no less.
I stared at the bird. The bird stared back at me.
I could actually read a trace of cold menace in his eyes.
A cold little bird indeed. His reputation was well deserved.
I gave him an ingratiating smile and held out the tail feather. “Why don’t you see if you can stick it back on?”
The cold little bird flapped his wings and turned into an irate little bird. The instant he opened his tiny beak, out came a textbook string of obscenities. “Fuck off! You plucked my feather—I’ll kill you for that!”
He pecked me so hard I began to question my entire existence. I wanted to swear like mad, so I silently raised my middle finger at the sky.
The irate little bird saw the gesture, thought I was insulting him, and pecked even harder.
Could someone please tell me why his personality had been so indescribably awful before he became the sinister young man?
Ling Xiao: cold by nature and full of cunning.
The cunning bird tried to fly off after pecking me. Quick-eyed and quick-handed, I caught him by the wing, terrified he would disappear for good.
Then not only would I fail the mission, I would have to learn a whole new skill: bird catching.
“You think you can peck me and run? You really think those chubby little wings can carry you out of my grasp?”
I laid him in my palm and sneered down at him.
The bird lay there, neck stiff with defiance. “A man may be killed but never humiliated! If you’re still human, make it quick!”
I burst out laughing. He sounded more human than I did.
But the more solemn the words, the funnier they sounded coming from a bird’s beak.
“What are you laughing at?”
The bird shot to his feet and stamped his tiny feet in fury. All his feathers puffed up, making him look very pettable.
I reached over and stroked him. He felt even better than I had imagined, his feathers sleek and soft beneath my fingers. “I’m laughing because you’re adorable.”
“I’ll peck you to death!”
He puffed up even more and started pecking me again.
This time, I failed to dodge. A sharp pain flared in the web between my thumb and forefinger.
Well, damn. He had drawn blood.
Instead of getting angry, I laughed and closed my hand around him. “I could really go for some bird soup.”
I was a woman of my word.
I forcibly carried Ling Xiao home, then ate bird soup right in front of him to avenge that peck.
I hadn’t expected such a tiny bird to have such a huge temper. He refused to eat for three days and nearly starved himself to death.
In the end, I casually lied and told him I was an angelic big sister sent by his parents to look after him, and that I would take him to see them once he grew up.
To my surprise, Ling Xiao believed me.
In an instant, the cold little bird turned into an obedient little bird.
Now he sat meekly in my palm while I played with him to my heart’s content. He felt wonderful.
I was beginning to understand why retired old men loved keeping birds so much.
“Woman, are you done yet?”
“Are you really that obsessed with my body?”
…
He was just a little too mouthy.
He would have been perfect if he couldn’t talk.
