I still had no idea what kind of life Ling Xiao had led before I found him.

I had been raising him for less than a month, yet the entire capital already knew that the prime minister’s second daughter kept an appallingly ill-mannered parrot.

He cursed, stole things, beat up other people’s birds…

The real problem was that Ling Xiao’s language was *filthy*.

No one knew he was a demon bird. They only saw a parrot and naturally assumed I had taught him everything he said.

The looks people gave me became considerably more complicated.

The gentle, virtuous image I had spent years cultivating was ruined in one stroke.

One day, I was speaking with someone when, out of the corner of my eye, I caught Ling Xiao flipping up a young lady’s skirt. I finally snapped.

I grabbed him by the tail feathers and gave him a sound beating.

I cursed as I hit him and even yanked out another two tail feathers.

When I looked up again and saw the expressions around me, I realized my long-standing image as a frail, quiet maiden had been ruined too.

But what pained me most was this: by the laws governing villains, Ling Xiao had to be a world-destroying antagonist. He absolutely could not be a pervert who went around lifting young ladies’ skirts.

Maybe, as a demon, he simply had no concept of gender yet.

If the child wasn’t taught, the mother was to blame.

I immediately gave Ling Xiao a lesson in family values.

“You idiot! You can’t even tell men from women!”

“That was a male, you damn pervert!”

It wasn’t until the next day that I learned the “young lady” was actually a notorious sexual predator disguised as a woman. Only after Ling Xiao lifted his skirt did the people around him realize something was wrong.

That was when I realized I had falsely accused Ling Xiao.

Once I knew I was wrong, I brought him his favorite pastries and shamelessly went to apologize.

The irate little bird still resented me for plucking three feathers from his butt and refused to show me a friendly face. The moment he saw me, he began pecking and cursing.

Then he perched on my shoulder and yanked at my hair. That sharp little beak of his could really pull. As he plucked, he cursed, “You pulled my feathers, so I’ll pull you bald!”

I was exhausted. Clearly, the road ahead in this creature’s moral education was still long and hard.

For some reason, my System had been extremely busy lately.

So busy that it was never around when I needed it. Fortunately, I was an independent modern woman perfectly capable of raising a little bird by myself.

Every time Tongtong came online, I gave it a wonderful surprise.

“Look! I’ve raised my Xiaoxiao into such a fluffy little ball. Isn’t he adorable?”

I clasped Ling Xiao in my hands and buried my face in his feathers.

The System said, “The villain isn’t this fluffy because you raised him well. He’s puffed up because you made him furious!”

“Do you think this little cape suits Xiaoxiao better, or that tiny dress? The dress, I think. It’s not as if my Xiaoxiao can’t wriggle out of it.”

I had found the best embroiderer in the city and commissioned an entire wardrobe for my little bird.

The System said, “The chances of you enraging the villain to death are low, but they are not zero.”

“Look, my Xiaoxiao can do somersaults! You’ve never seen a bird do somersaults before, have you?”

I had someone make me a bird teaser and devoted myself to playing with him.

The System said, “Host, I must stress this again: the villain is not your pet. Please correct your attitude!”

My attitude?

I never understood why it complained. My attitude was perfectly proper. I took raising this bird very seriously.

Thanks to my training, Ling Xiao hardly even swore anymore!

The System asked in anguished disbelief, “Do you even remember what your transmigration mission is?”

I said dismissively, “Isn’t it to raise a bird?”

The System shrieked hysterically, “Raise a fucking bird, my ass! You’re supposed to be the villain’s white moonlight! Do you look anything like a white moonlight right now?”

Um…

Ummm…

Ummmmmmmm…

Anything like a white moonlight…

I looked back through the bird-rearing notes I had kept lately. Probably, possibly, maybe… not.

If I was being honest, Ling Xiao loved his food. I suspected that, in his heart, I couldn’t even compare to a bowl of plain rice.

It seemed I had accidentally taken things too far.
