Chapter 1

After wandering off from the tour group, I got completely lost.

Starving and close to death, I caught a black rabbit in a trap.

It was plump and round, like a little coal ball the size of two palms.

The rabbit gazed up with innocent, adorable red eyes.

Beside it lay the skeletal remains of several large beasts, stripped clean of flesh.

It looked like the work of some monstrous predator that had torn them apart and devoured them.

I hesitated for a long time, but in the end I couldn’t bring myself to eat the rabbit.

After all, over these past days, this was the first harmless little creature I’d seen.

In this jungle, eight-meter-tall elephants and pythons as thick as tree stumps were a regular occurrence.

A tiny cutie like this was perfect for companionship.

“Bunny, stay with me, okay?”

“I’ll call you Little Black.”

I scooped it up and hugged it tight, ignoring the Black Rabbit’s struggles as I kneaded its entire body.

Its tummy rumbled, so I stuffed some leftover fruit into its mouth.

“Be good, this is all I’ve got to eat. If you’re hungry, just sleep, and then you won’t feel it.”

The Black Rabbit looked up at me, its ears twitching as if it wanted to say something but stopped.

Ahhh! What an adorable baby!

I couldn’t resist planting a big kiss on its little lips.

It kicked out with both legs and shoved my face away.

As if I had insulted it deeply, the Black Rabbit shrank into a corner of the cave, blending into the darkness.

Licking my lips with satisfaction, I clutched my growling stomach and lay down to sleep.

Half-asleep, I felt a warmth against my chest.

It turned out the little Black Rabbit had gotten cold at night and snuggled up to me.

I lifted the rabbit onto my chest and buried my face in its belly, drifting off to the delicious scent of cooked meat.

In the middle of the night, lightning flashed and thunder roared outside the cave.

I sighed. Another rainstorm.

I grumbled to Little Black,

“What are we going to do? Will we starve to death?”

“I haven’t had meat in so many days, your big sister is so pitiful.”

Little Black blinked, stuck out its tiny tongue, and tickled my chin.

Then, as if to comfort me, it placed a paw on my belly.

Chapter 2

The next day, the rain still hadn’t stopped.

I hugged my knees and waited in the cave, growing anxious.

When I woke up this morning, Little Black was gone.

I searched everywhere, but not a single strand of rabbit fur turned up.

A weak and helpless thing like that must have become some wild beast’s meal by now.

Thinking that, I cried out mournfully in the rain:

“Little Black! My precious Little Black!”

“You died so tragically! I’ll always remember the taste of your meat.”

A black lightning-like little figure jumped in from the rain.

Little Black shook out its fur, its two short paws tucked in front.

Its red eyes gazed calmly at me, then at the half a chicken it had brought back.

The rabbit-a mighty hunter!

With a joyful howl, I scooped up Little Black and inspected it from head to toe, finding not a scratch on its tiny body.

Its ears, though, were a little hot.

I quickly got a fire going by drilling wood, and stewed a pot of chicken soup along with roasting a drumstick.

At the sight of the fire, Little Black huddled next to me, trembling slightly, its eyes reflecting the flames.

I gnawed on the drumstick with my left hand while rubbing my bunny baby with my right, utterly content with life.

I tore the meat into strips and fed them into the little rabbit’s mouth.

In this other world, rabbits ate meat too.

Little Black cleaned its plate, even licking the last bits of meat off my palm, not missing a single crumb between my fingers.

Then it looked up at me with its big, round eyes.

Full and satisfied, I stretched and noticed my own smell.

“Little Black, let’s go take a bath!”

It stiffened and instantly curled into a shy little coal ball.
