But the person Lu Xiangxiang remembered most clearly was his unruly Little Junior Sister, Weng Mingshu.

Weng Mingshu had actually fallen in love with her man…

Lu Xiangxiang sneered inwardly.

Yan Haonan came back to his senses, and his expression shifted. He suppressed the inexplicable agitation in his heart, yet could not resist taking one more look at Lu Xiangxiang.

Who was she?

Just then, the black dragon’s attack swept toward him. Yan Haonan immediately cast aside those untimely thoughts, tightened his grip on his longsword, and rushed forward to fight the dragon alongside the other cultivators.

Cang Li was driven back several steps, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

With Yan Haonan joining the battle, some of the pressure on the group eased.

Suddenly, the white-haired elder was struck by the black dragon’s fire. Like a kite with a severed string, he crashed hard into the ground, his entire body aflame.

“Elder Chen!” a cultivator cried out.

Before anyone could go to his aid, the black dragon’s ferocious attacks descended like a violent storm. A mountain of flame bore down on the cultivators, its searing heat warping the air.

They could not withstand the terrifying inferno. One after another, they were hurled backward. Two Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators were swallowed by the fire and reduced to ash in an instant.

Yuan Yao arrived just in time to witness the horrific scene.

Her gaze landed on the dying white-haired elder nearby. Flames covered his body. His clothing had already burned to ash, exposing charred skin, and an acrid stench filled the air.

Yuan Yao’s expression turned grave. Without hesitation, she rapidly formed a hand seal and called, “Water, come!”

A clear torrent instantly surged from her seal like a silver dragon and swept toward the white-haired elder.

The next moment, a ball of flame shot at Yuan Yao.

Her pupils contracted. She dodged aside and summoned the Phantom Spirit Sword.

Rather than confront the black dragon immediately, she paused to assess the battle.

Her Third Senior Brother and Yan Haonan were both locked in combat with it.

Besides the two of them, ten other cultivators were still fighting.

The black dragon’s strength was likely around the late Nascent Soul Realm. They would never be able to kill it with their strength alone.

Yuan Yao withdrew her gaze. She first moved the white-haired elder to a relatively safe place outside the battle zone.

【Target Li Chen’s Awakening Value has reached 25.】

The voice of System 250 suddenly sounded in her mind.

The white-haired elder was Li Chen, one of the elders of the Qingyun Sect.

“Senior, stay here for now,” Yuan Yao told him.

Then she rose and looked toward Lu Xiangxiang, who was still hiding in the corner.

She sped over.

Lu Xiangxiang naturally saw her coming and frowned.

Only when Yuan Yao reached her did she say, “Sixth Senior Sister.”

“Come with me to fight the black dragon!” Yuan Yao said without preamble.

Lu Xiangxiang replied unhurriedly, “Sixth Senior Sister, we’d only cause trouble if we went over there. Our cultivation is too low.”

“You’re right. You would only get in the way, so stay right here and don’t move. Because…” Yuan Yao lowered her voice, “if so much as one hair on your head is harmed, your senior sister will be terribly heartbroken.”

Lu Xiangxiang’s face darkened. She regarded the fifteen-year-old girl before her with contempt.

This little brat thought she could intimidate her?

She was far too inexperienced.

Lu Xiangxiang had no idea why the members of the Xiaoyao Sect had treated her as Yuan Yao’s replacement in her previous life. She and Yuan Yao were not alike in the slightest. There was no comparison between them.

After all, in her eyes, Yuan Yao was nothing more than a fragile dodder flower sheltered by the Xiaoyao Sect. She posed no threat whatsoever.

“All right,” Lu Xiangxiang answered with a smile.

Seeing her expression, Yuan Yao was now almost certain that everything System 250 had told her was true.

For the first time, she found the other girl’s face so loathsome that it made her want to vomit.

Her sense of urgency only grew. She wanted to survive. She wanted to become stronger. She wanted to protect everyone in the Xiaoyao Sect!

Just then, Yuan Yao heard her Eldest Senior Brother calling her name.

She turned and saw Song Yan coming toward her, looking weak and pale. Another person followed close behind—Weng Mingshu.

“Yuan Yao, he was the one who ran off!” Weng Mingshu hurriedly defended herself. “It has nothing to do with me!”

The instant Lu Xiangxiang saw Weng Mingshu, her eyes went completely cold, and a flicker of killing intent passed through their depths.

Yuan Yao keenly sensed the change in her emotions and could not help looking at Weng Mingshu.

Lu Xiangxiang wanted to kill her?

Why?

Before Song Yan and Weng Mingshu could reach them, a deafening crash resounded through the chamber.

They followed the sound and saw Cang Li, Yan Haonan, and the others flung to the ground by the black dragon’s violent attack. Several cultivators could not even get back on their feet. In that very instant, flames surged toward them like towering waves and swallowed them whole.

“Aaaagh!”

Their agonized screams sent chills down the spine.

Yuan Yao’s expression changed. Flames had caught on her Third Senior Brother’s back.

With no time to think, she dashed toward Cang Li and slashed down with her sword.

A water-infused blade of energy cleaved toward him.

“Don’t move!” Yuan Yao shouted.

Cang Li’s body went rigid. In the next instant, cool air washed over his back.

His clothes had been cut open, leaving his back bare.

Burn marks marred his skin.

Gripping his black spear, Cang Li quickly scrambled to his feet.

At the same time, the black dragon’s assault continued. It charged straight at him.

Cang Li’s face changed dramatically. He turned and fled.

But the dragon was far too fast. In the blink of an eye, it had caught up to him.

Scorching breath rolled over him from behind, accompanied by such terrifying pressure that he could not even turn to raise his spear.

Song Yan and Yuan Yao’s pupils contracted at the sight.

Song Yan pushed his speed to the limit and flashed in front of Cang Li. He swung his sword with all his might.

Yet the strike failed to harm the black dragon in the slightest.

Yuan Yao gritted her teeth and sprinted forward, simultaneously controlling the Phantom Spirit Sword as it flew toward the dragon.

The black dragon paid no attention to the garishly colored sword and made no attempt to defend itself.

Then something unexpected happened.

The multicolored longsword grew enormous in an instant.

A terrifying aura radiated from it.

“Sever!”

Yuan Yao gave a low shout.

Alarm flashed through the black dragon’s blood-red eyes. It dodged with all possible speed.

Clang!

But it was not fast enough. The razor-sharp Phantom Spirit Sword tore open its belly, and blood sprayed through the air.

Everyone present stared in shock.

The black dragon was nearly impervious to blades and spears and could withstand almost every technique thrown at it. Yet this garishly colored sword had cut open its belly?!

How was that possible?!

Even Song Yan and Cang Li had never imagined that their Little Junior Sister’s ugly sword possessed such tremendous power.

The multicolored sword had been at her side since childhood.

They still remembered how she had used it to poke bird nests, split firewood, peel fruit…
