Chronicles of Heaven's Chosen - Chapter 25
“Black dragon, take another slash from me!”
Yuan Yao continued directing the Phantom Spirit Sword, sending it hurtling toward the dragon.
The black dragon’s scarlet eyes narrowed. It opened its jaws and spewed a searing torrent of flame, which roared toward the sword like a dragon of fire.
But the next instant—
The Phantom Spirit Sword pierced straight through the flames without losing any speed and shot directly at the black dragon’s face!
The dragon was startled. It had not expected this sword to be so formidable that it could break through its fiery defense with ease.
Suppressing the agony from the wound in its belly, it whipped its tail viciously at the Phantom Spirit Sword.
Clang!
The sword was knocked away by the tremendous force and buried itself in a nearby wall.
Yuan Yao’s expression changed slightly. She raised a hand to summon it back.
Just then, a crushing aura descended from above, leaving her unable to breathe.
Her heart sank. With no time to think, she hurriedly dodged sideways.
The black dragon was simply too fast. In a flash, it appeared in front of her and opened its enormous, gaping maw, baring savage fangs. Power surged out like floodwaters bursting through a dam and bore down on her.
“Little Junior Sister!”
“Yuan Yao!”
Song Yan and the others shouted at once, their hearts leaping into their throats.
Song Yan and Cang Li charged toward her without regard for their own safety.
Yuan Yao’s chest tightened. The terrifying pressure felt as though it would split her head apart, and pain tore through her.
Her fingers jerked.
The Phantom Spirit Sword responded instantly, wrenching itself from the wall and streaking toward the black dragon with the speed of lightning.
In that same instant—
Yuan Yao was hurled to the ground. She rolled several times and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
“ROAR!”
The black dragon’s howl of pain shook the entire chamber. The multicolored longsword had plunged into its body.
“Attack!” Yan Haonan shouted.
He and the other cultivators swarmed forward and launched a relentless assault on the black dragon.
Song Yan and Cang Li instead rushed to Yuan Yao’s side and gently helped her sit up.
Her face was deathly pale, and blood stained the corner of her mouth.
Every part of her body hurt, as though she had been skinned and pulled apart bone by bone.
If the Myriad Wards Robe and her other high-grade defensive artifacts had not protected her, she might already have been reduced to a lump of mangled flesh.
“That hurts so much!” Tears filled Yuan Yao’s eyes, and her small face scrunched up.
Song Yan’s heart clenched at her words. Frowning in distress, he helped her up and immediately said to Cang Li, “A pill.”
Cang Li had already prepared one.
Yuan Yao plucked the fourth-grade pill straight from his palm and swallowed it.
“Eldest Senior Brother, keep an eye on her!”
With that, Cang Li turned and charged back toward the black dragon.
“Are you all right?!” Weng Mingshu hurried over.
Yuan Yao gritted her teeth. “I’m fine.”
It did not hurt at all.
Boohoo. That was a lie.
Weng Mingshu pointed at Song Yan and loudly accused him, “Your Eldest Senior Brother broke his word! He lied to me!”
With an air of perfect righteousness, Yuan Yao declared, “Don’t worry, Mingshu. I’ll teach him a lesson!”
Only then did Weng Mingshu’s anger subside a little. She still shot Song Yan a fierce glare.
“I despise people who break their word!”
Song Yan had nothing to say.
He looked gravely at Yuan Yao. “Yaoyao, it isn’t safe here. Go stay with Fellow Daoist Weng and Junior Sister Lu.”
“I’m not afraid, Eldest Senior Brother!”
Yuan Yao truly was not afraid. She knew she still had seven of the life-saving talismans Master had placed on her.
If her life were ever in mortal danger, one of those talismans would activate. The power Master had left inside it would surely be enough to kill this black dragon!
And even if it could not kill the beast outright, it would gravely wound it.
“You…” Song Yan stared at her in open disapproval.
Before he could finish, Yuan Yao turned and rushed straight back into the battle zone.
His brow twitched violently. He hurried after her.
Weng Mingshu remained where she was, blinking in bewilderment.
Why were these two martial siblings so good at running away from her?!
She looked up at the battle and clenched her teeth. She could not lose to Yuan Yao, who was only at early Foundation Establishment Realm!
She, Weng Mingshu, was stronger than Yuan Yao, after all.
How could she cower in a corner?
With a sweep of her slender hand, a longsword materialized in her grasp. She flashed forward, raised the blade, and slashed.
“First Form of Tianyun—”
“White Rainbow Pierces the Sun!”
The sword edge transformed into a dazzling, razor-sharp beam of white light that cleaved toward the black dragon.
“Phantom Spirit, come!”
Yuan Yao raised her right hand. The sword, still wet with the black dragon’s blood, streaked back to her like a meteor.
She caught it, circulated her spiritual power, and swung with all her might.
“Myriad Arts of a Thousand Mountains—”
“Sword Subdues All Creation!”
The blade split into countless colossal sword-shadows that descended upon the black dragon.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions thundered without end as everyone besieged the beast together.
Fury burned in the black dragon’s scarlet eyes. Terrifying pressure erupted from its body and distorted every incoming attack, bending them away before they could land.
The entire chamber shook violently. Loose stones tumbled from the surrounding walls, and dust billowed through the air.
“ROAR!”
The enraged dragon charged straight at Yuan Yao.
“Come on, big black dragon!” Yuan Yao showed not a trace of fear. If anything, she seemed a little excited as she gripped the Phantom Spirit Sword and rushed to meet it.
Song Yan’s and Cang Li’s eyelids twitched hard at the sight. Their poor little hearts could barely take any more.
Right now, they truly wanted to give her a beating!
The black dragon grew even angrier at her arrogance. It gathered all its strength and unleashed a devastating attack in her direction.
Terrifying power crashed toward Yuan Yao.
Her expression changed. The enormous force threatened to grind her into paste. Her hands began trembling violently, and the taste of blood surged up her throat.
She gritted her teeth, ready to cry, “Master, save me!” when—
“Ninefold Moon Fills the Sky.”
A pleasant, familiar voice suddenly sounded beside her.
Before Yuan Yao could react, a long, slender hand came around her shoulder. Sword light flashed before her eyes.
Boom!
The black dragon’s attack was split apart by a single slash.
All that crushing pressure vanished, leaving only a faint scent of oranges drifting past her nose.
Yuan Yao started to turn toward the newcomer, only to feel blood rising in her throat.
Just as she was about to spray it all over him—
Two fingers forcibly turned her face the other way, and the blood spurted harmlessly to the side.
“Pfft!”
An eerie silence suddenly descended.
Everyone present looked up at the youth standing in midair.
The sixteen-year-old wore his hair in a high ponytail and was dressed in black robes embroidered with cranes. His figure was lean and tall. He tilted his head slightly, thin lips pressed together, his phoenix eyes holding an indescribably languid air.
