“You truly know where it is?” Elder Yan stared at her, doubt weighing his voice. “This isn’t children playing house. If your information is wrong, do you have any idea how many people could die?”

Yuan Yao was already sick with worry over Eldest Senior Brother and the others. His pointed accusation kindled a nameless fire inside her, and she shot back without yielding an inch.

“Then don’t believe me. Why insist on forcing such a grave accusation onto my shoulders? Do you intend to make me responsible for everything that happens?”

Her sharp retort left Elder Yan momentarily speechless.

Before he could recover, Yuan Yao pressed on. “Elder Yan, may I ask whether you, with all your present ability, can find the Nightmare Beast?”

His face darkened. He had not expected this young girl to know so little of the height of heaven or the depth of earth. Not only did she show him no respect, she dared contradict him one after another—two following one, and three following two.

With an ashen expression, he replied coldly, “This old man may not yet know the Nightmare Beast’s precise location, but at least I would never invent an answer or make a wild guess.”

Xue Jin suddenly spoke. “Yaoyao, don’t lower yourself to his level.”

Elder Yan’s face grew uglier still. He was about to protest when a brilliantly multicolored harpoon materialized in Yuan Yao’s hand.

“I’ll spear it out right now!”

With a flash, Yuan Yao appeared above a stretch of open ground.

She let go of the harpoon. In an instant, it expanded to an enormous size, like a pillar that propped up heaven.

Everyone stared, dumbfounded.

Even Xiao Lingwei, Cang Li, Xue Jin, and Ying Wuji looked surprised.

Yuan Yao closed her eyes and sensed the precise location of the Nightmare Beast’s true body. She raised a hand and rapidly performed a hand seal.

She channeled her mental power into Phantom Spirit, then controlled it as it plunged violently toward the ground!

A terrifying wave of mental power swept outward like a hurricane, forcing everyone to raise their arms to shield themselves.

Bang!

The gigantic harpoon slammed into the earth with a crash that shocked heaven and moved earth. Soil exploded in every direction.

Everyone stared at the ground in uncertainty.

But there was no sign of the Nightmare Beast.

“Does she really know where it is?” someone whispered with a frown.

“Even Elder Yan and the others couldn’t find its true body. Who does she think she is, acting so confident?”

“Exactly. People like her always think they’re something special. Is she making this spectacle just to draw attention?”

The Third Elder of the Taisui Sect shook his head in disappointment and sighed. “This elder still held a sliver of hope that she might truly know where the Nightmare Beast was hiding. Who would have thought it would end like this…”

Elder Yan turned toward Zong Rao and rebuked her with a cold sneer. “Is this how the Xiaoyao Sect disciplines its disciples? She has no ability, yet insists on causing trouble!”

Zong Rao’s brows drew together. She was about to speak when—

Boom!

A crash so loud it seemed ready to deafen the ears suddenly shook the air.

Everyone turned in shock. The enormous harpoon was still sinking, as though it meant to pierce straight through the earth! In the blink of an eye, it vanished deep underground without shadow or trace.

Then came a sight that made their hair stand and their bones shiver.

Sharp cracks rang out as the once-still ground split apart. Long fissures rapidly appeared and spread madly toward the four sides and eight directions.

The next moment—

The gigantic Nightmare Beast burst out of the ground, the multicolored harpoon still embedded in its skull.

“You seek death!”

With a furious roar, it yanked the harpoon free and flung it aside.

Then it charged toward Yuan Yao.

Its speed was terrifying!

Everyone was stunned.

Yuan Yao really had speared the Nightmare Beast out of hiding!

Even Elder Yan, who had been ready to seize on her failure, stared in disbelief.

Ying Wuji was the first to rush forward, intending to block the Beast’s attack for Yuan Yao.

But instead of retreating, Yuan Yao lunged straight at it.

The poor little hearts of everyone in the Xiaoyao Sect nearly stopped.

“Little Junior Sister!”

The Nightmare Beast had been charging forward with murderous intent. The moment it saw Yuan Yao’s abnormal response, however, it remembered the two times the mysterious force protecting her had counterattacked and nearly killed it…

And she wanted to devour its mental power.

Alarm surged through the Beast. She had to possess more of that mysterious power! She meant to use it to grievously wound the Beast, then swallow all its mental power.

Fear filled its eyes. Cursing inwardly, it turned and fled from the dangerous human as fast as it could!

“Don’t run!” Yuan Yao cried, her expression changing.

She summoned Phantom Spirit back, transformed it into a longsword, and stepped lightly onto the blade. Then she flew after the Nightmare Beast.

“Give me back Eldest Senior Brother and the others! If you don’t, I’ll eat you!”

The Beast missed the first half of her threat, but it heard the last sentence clearly enough.

It fled even faster.

Everyone stared.

Their expressions could only be described as: “???!!!”

They blinked, wondering whether they had fallen into the second layer of Nightmare Space.

“This can’t be real…right?” someone asked, swallowing hard.

“Pinch me!”

“Aaaah! That hurts!”

It was real.

The Nightmare Beast was running away?!

It was afraid of that girl in white?

And she had threatened to eat it?!

The crowd remained rooted in stunned disbelief.

Yuan Yao pursued the Nightmare Beast on her sword until the two gradually became tiny specks in the distance.

Xiao Lingwei, Cang Li, Xue Jin, and Ying Wuji chased after them.

“What…do we do now?” someone asked.

Elder Yan’s expression shifted repeatedly, but he immediately issued an order. “Half of you stay. The rest, pursue the Nightmare Beast!”

The elite disciples of each sect split into two groups. One remained to care for the wounded, while the other raced after Yuan Yao and the Beast.

Meanwhile, Yuan Yao was gradually falling behind.

Compared with the Nightmare Beast, she was still far too weak.

She could not catch it!

Yuan Yao gritted her teeth.

Then she remembered the spirit fruit she had focused on so intently while practicing mental power…

She made her decision.

Still flying on her sword, Yuan Yao fixed all her concentration on the Nightmare Beast’s skull.
