Cultivation Diary - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The next day, I descended the mountain in search of opportunity.
I rescued a mortal who was being attacked by a wolf demon. The mortal was deeply grateful and wished to take me as his master.
I agreed.
Thus, I successfully took in my Senior Disciple.
We returned to the mountain.
Upon reaching the summit, my Senior Disciple looked around, fell silent for a long while, and confirmed it again and again.
“Are you sure we didn’t take the wrong road?”
I led him to the pile of grass where I had lodged last night and said happily, “This is precisely the marker I left behind.”
My Senior Disciple stared at it in silence. Then he tipped his head back and let out a long sigh.
And spewed foul language.
I cast a Silencing Spell on him as a small punishment.
Though my Senior Disciple was a mortal, he was clever with his hands and quickly built a wooden hut.
Yay!
No need to sleep under the open sky tonight.
That evening, my Senior Disciple gathered spirit herbs and boiled them in a pot.
I tasted them. The flavor was excellent.
I praised him greatly. “Your aptitude is outstanding. In the future, you will surely accomplish great things!”
My Senior Disciple rolled his eyes at me. “Quit making empty promises and drink up. If it gets cold, I’ll have to heat it again.”
I soothed him. “Young man, do not be impatient. Tomorrow, your master will take you down the mountain for training. There will be bread. There will be everything.”
Then I tipped my head back and drained it in one go.
My Senior Disciple was silent for a moment, then got up to wash the pot and dishes.
On the third day, I took my Senior Disciple down the mountain for training.
Along the way, we encountered a rabbit-type spirit beast. It was exceedingly cute and adorably silly. I was overjoyed.
I took it in as a spirit pet.
I asked my Senior Disciple to build a little nest for the spirit pet.
My Senior Disciple refused.
I begged him.
So he agreed.
I smoothly obtained an exquisite little nest for Bunny the spirit pet. Yay.
My Senior Disciple gathered a large amount of fresh spirit herbs.
Bunny was delighted and ate them in great mouthfuls.
Afterward, it slept for half a day.
I examined the herbs closely and picked out several stalks of Drowsy Herb.
Ashamed, my Senior Disciple ran outside and began chopping wood.
By evening, he had built another wooden hut.
He slept in a separate hut from mine.
In the middle of the night, I carried Bunny over and knocked on his door.
The moonlight was clear and bright. My Senior Disciple had not yet gone to sleep either.
Seeing me arrive, delight showed on his face. “What are you messing around with in the middle of the night now? Hurry up and go to sleep!”
I stuffed Bunny into his arms. “Bunny misses you terribly.”
While my Senior Disciple was still stunned, I turned around, shut the door, and locked it in one smooth motion.
Under the moonlight, my Senior Disciple held Bunny, whose eyes were bloodshot and whose four paws were kicking wildly, and howled at the sky.
“You absolute menace! You drove the rabbit crazy yourself and dumped it on me!”
Hearing this, I deeply sensed the profound inner strength of my disciple and was greatly reassured.
The next morning, I woke after a full night’s sleep. Greeting the fresh breeze and morning sun, I was in high spirits.
Bunny the spirit pet had returned to being sweet and adorable. I held it, stroked its fur, and immediately felt comfortable all over.
Only my Senior Disciple did not seem especially pleased. With a cold face, he cooked porridge.
After the meal, I taught my Senior Disciple to identify spirit herbs.
My Senior Disciple’s expression gradually softened, and a hint of pleasure appeared.
I was happy as well.
However, halfway through the lesson, I began to feel somewhat irritated.
My disciple’s comprehension was poor. He actually could not remember everything after seeing it only once.
A short while later, I suddenly saw Bunny walk into the forest.
I wanted to chase after it.
So I turned and instructed my Senior Disciple, “Identify them carefully. Your master will quiz you when I return.”
My Senior Disciple frowned and nodded.
And off I went.
