Cultivation Diary - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I tracked Bunny deep into the mountain woods.
There, I discovered a Spirit Spring.
I was overjoyed.
The spiritual energy here was abundant. I could have Senior Disciple come here to cultivate.
I was about to hurry back when I realized Bunny was nowhere to be seen.
Just as I was puzzling over it, I suddenly heard a noise from above.
It turned out to be a fox demon, and my precious Bunny was dangling from its jaws.
I was furious.
I battled the fox demon for one round.
Successfully rescued Bunny.
Bunny was badly frightened, so I soothed it with great care.
I was just about to take the fox demon’s demon core when it suddenly collapsed to the ground and transformed into a fair, obedient-looking little boy. He knelt and cupped his hands, crying over and over, “Immortal Venerable, spare me! Immortal Venerable, spare me!”
I considered this for a moment, then asked, “Are you willing to enter this venerable one’s tutelage?”
The fox demon was quick-witted and immediately kowtowed. “I am, I am! This disciple greets Honored Master!”
Yay. I successfully took in my Second Disciple.
I returned to the mountain gate with one fox and one rabbit.
When Senior Disciple saw them, his face filled with confusion. “I don’t know how to raise foxes. This thing eats meat. If you’re not careful, it’ll gobble up your rabbit. Why don’t you think it over and raise something else?”
The fox demon leapt down from my shoulder, transformed into human form, and bowed to Senior Disciple. “Greetings, Eldest Senior Brother.”
Senior Disciple grew even more confused.
My fox demon disciple was very sensible and quickly explained the whole sequence of events on my behalf.
Before long, the two of them had become familiar with each other.
The fox demon invited Senior Disciple to bathe with him at the Spirit Spring.
The two chatted merrily and returned thoroughly satisfied.
That night, Senior Disciple even invited him to share his bed, leaving me and Bunny alone in an empty room.
At midnight, I could still see the lamplight blazing in his room, their laughter and conversation warm and cheerful.
I tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
I pricked up my ears to listen.
It was all Senior Disciple complaining about his master.
Utterly unbearable!
I cast a Silencing Spell.
A startled cry immediately came from inside the room.
After that, the candle went out, and my fox demon disciple called out obediently, “Master! We’re going to sleep like good boys now!”
Only then did I rest as well.
The next day, I tested Senior Disciple on his lessons.
He actually failed to get everything right.
I punished him by sending him to chop firewood.
Also, he was to build another wooden cabin.
The tenth day of cultivating immortality.
I took my two disciples down the mountain for training.
On the road, we encountered a herd of beasts attacking a village, so we stepped forward and drove them back.
Though Second Disciple was young, his combat ability was quite impressive. He claimed the greatest merit in this battle.
Senior Disciple was responsible for the post-battle cleanup, distributing the spiritual herbs we had brought to the villagers so they could treat their wounds.
Our gains from this battle were rather plentiful. In total, we obtained several dozen low-grade demon cores, as well as a number of spirit stones confiscated from the demonic beasts.
The villagers were deeply grateful and offered us food as thanks.
I refused.
But their kindness was difficult to decline.
So I accepted a little.
On the way back up the mountain, both disciples were extremely excited.
Senior Disciple said, “From now on, I will work twice as hard in my cultivation and protect even more people!”
Second Disciple said, “Me too, me too!”
I felt deeply gratified and praised them lavishly. “My disciples have lofty ambitions indeed. In the future, you will surely bring glory to our sect.”
Second Disciple hesitated for a moment, then asked cautiously, “Master, I keep forgetting to ask. What is our sect called? When the other demonic beasts asked me just now, I didn’t know how to answer…”
Senior Disciple came to a sudden realization and smacked his forehead. “I can’t believe I never asked either!”
Then he turned and gave me an eye roll. “Hmph.”
I brushed off my sleeves and said with unhurried composure, “When we return to the sect, I shall tell you.”
Huh. I actually forgot about that.
Then I would simply come up with one on the way.
We arrived at the sect.
I ordered Senior Disciple to make a plaque.
I raised my brush and wrote in one sweeping flourish, my strokes flying like dragons and snakes.
“Heaven and Earth Alliance!”
