Chapter 3

Over the past several days, Senior Disciple and Second Disciple worked diligently together to add several buildings to the sect.

We now had a training hall, an herb room, an alchemy room, a storehouse, and a few other facilities.

I bought an alchemy furnace with spirit stones.

Gathered spirit herbs.

Began refining pills.

Successfully produced pills such as the Marrow-Cleansing Pill and Qi Condensing Pill.

I gave them to Senior Disciple, cleansing his tendons and marrow and allowing him to enter the Qi Refining Stage.

I gave them to Second Disciple, washing away his demonic nature and increasing his cultivation.

I taught them cultivation methods.

My two disciples devoted themselves to their practice.

Bunny and I went to the Spirit Spring to play.

A fine time was had by all.

That evening, Senior Disciple cooked with his clever hands, while Second Disciple set out bowls and chopsticks.

I sat upright and waited to eat.

Very harmonious indeed.

A month later, I looked over the sect and found that it had begun to take proper shape. Feeling inspired, I issued a recruitment notice.

Unfortunately, the results were poor.

Ten people came. After seeing my sect, nine said, “How shabby. Let’s go.”

One remained, and I joyfully invited him in.

He asked, “How much is the salary?”

I said, “…”

And so he left in disappointment.

I fell silent for a long while, then asked Senior Disciple, “Do you also think the sect is shabby?”

Senior Disciple shook his head fiercely. “Who said it’s shabby? What’s shabby about it? I built all of this with my own two hands, brick by brick!”

I turned to ask Second Disciple.

Second Disciple blinked. “Master, don’t be upset. Those people simply don’t know quality when they see it.”

I lowered my head and gave Second Disciple a look.

Then another.

This child was crafty.

But… his words were very pleasing to hear.

Half a year after issuing the recruitment notice, I finally had a Third Disciple.

She was a mortal girl.

Beautiful, able to eat, and a chatterbox.

No. An enormous chatterbox.

I found her extremely annoying.

However, this girl had extraordinary roots, excellent aptitude, and superb spirituality and comprehension. She was especially skilled in alchemy and medicine-making.

And she had taken the initiative to become my disciple.

So I endured.

One day, I was playing with my spirit pet Bunny.

Third Disciple watched from a distance for a long time.

I suddenly had a bad feeling.

When I looked back, she was already at my side.

“Master really likes Bunny, huh?”

“Why is that? Do you simply like rabbits, or do you like fluffy things?”

“If you like fluffy things, will any kind of fur do?”

“Do you like Second Senior Brother’s fox fur?”

“Do you hug Second Senior Brother too?”

“Does Second Senior Brother like being hugged by you too?”

“Could the two of you develop… hmm… some kind of feelings beyond master and disciple…?”

“Ah, I’m just asking casually. Just curious.”

“So… could you?”

…

I reached out to Senior Disciple as he passed by. “Beloved disciple, save your master.”

I received one cold glance from Senior Disciple. “Stop fooling around. I’m busy. We don’t have enough alchemy furnaces anymore, so I need to go buy more.”

Oh, right. Ever since Third Disciple arrived, our output of various pills had greatly increased.

The disciples’ cultivation had also improved by leaps and bounds.

Correspondingly, our consumption of supplies had sped up as well.

Faced with Third Disciple’s unending stream of questions, I pondered for a long while.

“Disciple, how about I teach you a new cultivation method?”

As expected, Third Disciple stopped and happily agreed.

This girl loved to study.

Once she obtained a new cultivation method, she threw herself into it headfirst, practicing day and night.

Only then did I gain a moment of peace.

For the next few days, no one disturbed me.

Excellent.

One evening, I reached out to take the large chicken drumstick on the serving plate, only for Senior Disciple to swat my hand away.

“This is for Junior Sister. She’s been buried in arduous cultivation these past few days and must be exhausted. She needs proper nourishment.”

As he spoke, he placed the drumstick and some fresh fish into a food box and handed it to Second Disciple. “Junior Brother, take this to Junior Sister in the training hall. And don’t you dare sneak a bite.”

Second Disciple answered and left.

I watched pitifully as the drumstick flew away.

I was unhappy.

I refused to eat.

A moment later, a large piece of meat was placed into my bowl.

Senior Disciple said, “Try the new dish I developed. Crispy fried chicken breast, marinated with tsaoko and fried in a flour coating. It’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Tastier than a drumstick.”

I was happy again.
