Chapter 130

Zhou Chuanning tapped his fingertip against one of the photos and said, “This person looks exactly like you. She’s human, and she’s the one who withdrew the case on the day of your coming-of-age ceremony.”

“Aren’t those Skin Suits only for Pseudo-Humans? Why could a human use one?” Gu Huaiwei asked, confused.

“Exactly, that’s the problem. If a Pseudo-Human were pretending to be you, my colleagues would have recognized it instantly.” Zhou Chuanning’s expression was grave. “Humans can’t use Skin Suits, so how did this person manage to look exactly like you? Do you have a twin sister?”

“No.” Gu Huaiwei looked at the face in the photo that mirrored her own, her heart sinking slightly. That wasn’t her sister. She and her sister looked similar, but they weren’t identical.

“As for this photo of Chen Liuxiang, we’ve already discovered that the person who helped you to the guest room to rest wasn’t actually her.”

If it wasn’t Chen Liuxiang who had injected that insect into Gu Huaiwei’s body, then why were there so many Big Fat Worms at her manor?

Was Gu Huaiwei misunderstanding Chen Liuxiang, or was Zhou Chuanning hiding something?

“The two people who impersonated us-did you catch them?”

“No.” Zhou Chuanning shook his head. “However, the higher-ups are paying close attention to this case. New police forces have been deployed, and I believe the truth will come to light before long.”

Gu Huaiwei stared at the two photos in a silent daze.

Watching the slight furrow of her brow as she thought and the youthful vitality of her fair cheeks, Zhou Chuanning asked, “Do you want to grab dinner together after work?”

“No thanks.” Gu Huaiwei rejected him immediately without a second thought.

Now that the suspicious points of the case had been discussed, Gu Huaiwei stood up, ready to see her guest out.

Zhou Chuanning said apologetically, “I haven’t visited you in a while.”

“You have your work. There’s really no need to come all the way here if there’s nothing going on.”

Gu Huaiwei escorted Zhou Chuanning out. He stopped at the door and asked once more, unwilling to give up, “Are you sure you won’t come?”

“I’m sure.” Gu Huaiwei shook her head with a smile, making a gesture for him to leave.

“I promise what happened on the day of the ceremony won’t happen again.”

“I have serious business to attend to.”

“As a human, you don’t need to work so hard.”

“Officer Zhou, I think I’ve made myself very clear. If there’s any new progress in the case, you’re welcome to find me anytime. If it’s about anything else, let’s not waste each other’s time.” Gu Huaiwei’s refusal was merciless.

After being rejected by Gu Huaiwei again, Zhou Chuanning remained dejected for a while, stopping his proactive messages and visits to the shop.

Gu Huaiwei took a photo of the insect she had kept in a plastic bottle and searched for it online using the image, but she couldn’t find any information regarding it.

She asked Lin She for help. Lin She stared at the insect with a green glint in his eyes; he only looked away after Gu Huaiwei promised that if the insect reproduced, she would let him eat the offspring with her.

After a more professional search, Lin She told Gu Huaiwei that this insect was not a creature native to this world, but rather an artificial creation.

The organization that had originally bred this type of insect was the Dawn Alliance.

This insect was called an Alert Worm. Initially, when the worm entered a human body, it would crawl along the spine to the brain and attach itself to the surface. This allowed humans to see the hideous faces beneath the Alien Skin Suits, thereby helping them maintain their sanity.

However, over the past few years, the insect had mutated, producing the exact opposite effect. When a new Alert Worm entered a human brain, it would decrease the human’s fear of Aliens and even create a sense of attachment, making the human more willing to help the Aliens spawn eggs.
Gu Huaiwei shook the plastic bottle, the plump, juicy bug sloshing inside. “When I found it, it was already in the stomach,” she said.

“Your body is like a massive container. It can store a lot of energy. Compared to humans, you’re actually closer to us.” Lin She believed Gu Huaiwei was the most perfect Operator Paradise had ever chosen.

He Xueyi heard them talking and wandered over too. “Want to try one of my little berries? Maybe your body can absorb it as well.”

“Yours grew out of a corpse.” Gu Huaiwei turned her head away, visibly put off.

“That’s why it’s more nutritious.”

He Xueyi caught the green little fruit between his pale pink lips, then curled his tongue and swept it into his mouth.

Lin She clung stubbornly to the goal he’d always had. “Whatever Paradise gives you, you should enjoy it. Gold Coin, Magnetic Value – they’re all yours. You’re the one Paradise chose. These are Paradise’s blessings to you.”

The first Dimension gave Gu Huaiwei financial freedom.

The second Dimension let Gu Huaiwei stay forever young.

And beyond that, even greater temptations were waiting for her.

After being nourished by one Dimension after another, an Operator’s physique would be refined to its most perfect state.

Plenty of Operators knew when to stop, returned to the Real World, and went on to live wildly successful lives. Another portion stayed behind in the smaller Dimensions for all kinds of reasons.

Those were all half-finished products-failures.

Paradise needed an Operator who would relentlessly keep jumping between Dimensions, letting each shop take root in the smaller Dimensions and siphon their energy, until the Paradise Gate could be opened.

To Paradise, Gu Huaiwei was a very good choice.

The Matchmaking Event was held right on schedule.

He Xueyi and Bai Miemie served as the hosts for this round of activities, while Lin She handled on-site coordination.

As for Gu Huaiwei, she swept up her messy bangs and put on makeup that aged her by a full fifty years. Wearing a red-and-green floral vest and black cloth shoes, she took He Jiarui’s personal information, entered the Family Zone, and began scouting a reliable match for He Jiarui.

This Matchmaking Event is divided into five areas:

Ordinary Member Zone: Average humans and average Alien meet here. Bonding is strictly one-on-one.

Premium Member Zone: Young humans and Alien with high Magnetic Value match in this area.

True Love Zone: Humans who pursue freedom meet other humans here, unafraid of aging, seeking a partner to spend a lifetime with.

Family Zone: The person seeking a match does not attend. Their family member or Keeper meets on their behalf.

Open Zone: For those willing to try new kinds of family relationships and “play,” such as four-person relationships, humans not laying eggs after Bonding, human-body alienation modifications, and certain higher-risk options.

At the Matchmaking Event, the human side-or a family representative-sits in an assigned seat, while the courting Alien sits opposite and rotates seat by seat. Each conversation lasts twenty minutes.

Gu Huaiwei looked at the Alien across from her: an auntie with her tongue hanging out. The woman pulled out a family portrait and pointed at the twisted, misshapen, abstract-looking little Alien in it.

“I have six kids. Their requirements are all the same: they want a young human male. He just needs to be sturdy. Ideally, he should weigh over two hundred jin, and hatch eggs for my family once a year.”

Gu Huaiwei held her clipboard, and after the first family representative’s name, she drew a big X.

“I’ve only got one pretty daughter at home. I’m not raising a breeding boar. Next.”
