Dimensional Store: Welcome to the Apocalypse Apartment - Chapter 132
Chapter 132
Human nature is inherently possessive.
Gu Huaiwei had told herself she didn’t care, that as long as she gained Magnetic Value, it was enough.
But after seeing it every day, how could she truly remain indifferent?
Using a visit to the sick as an excuse, Gu Huaiwei took Bai Miemie back to Chen Liuxiang’s manor. She planned to show He Jiarui her newly selected candidate and, while she was at it, let Bai Miemie hook another Big Fat Worm.
As they were crossing the courtyard, a ball came rolling toward Gu Huaiwei’s feet, stopping the moment it brushed against her shoe.
“Could you kick that ball back to me?” Not far away, a young man with high cheekbones was waving at her.
He wore a Bonding Ring around his neck, marking him as one of the humans bonded to He Jiarui.
Gu Huaiwei kicked the ball back to him.
To her surprise, the High-Cheekboned Youth kicked it right back.
He stood where he was, giggling to himself, looking somewhat unstable.
“Hey, sister, don’t mind that idiot.” Another young woman, the Ponytail Girl, ran up from behind Gu Huaiwei, holding a badminton racket. “His brain is broken. It won’t be long before Xiangxiang kicks him out.”
She was followed by two other girls of similar age, who chimed in with chirps of agreement.
“Exactly! He has such a good life, yet he’s still ungrateful. He even says bad things about Xiangxiang. People like him who don’t know how good they have it deserve to be kicked out!”
All of these people were Chen Liuxiang’s bonded partners.
Gu Huaiwei gave Bai Miemie a subtle look, signaling her to find the right moment to hook a worm out.
Bai Miemie understood. She hid her hands behind her back and gave an ‘OK’ sign. Looking up at the sky, she pursed her lips and whistled, then quietly reached out a foot and stepped lightly on one of the girls’ shoelaces.
The girl took a pathetic tumble, her badminton racket flying out of her hand, which Gu Huaiwei happened to catch.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry!” Bai Miemie immediately apologized in a flustered, quiet voice, her face full of anxious innocence.
The others moved to help the fallen girl.
Bai Miemie beat them to it, crouching down. She held the girl’s shoulder with one hand and supported her head with the other, taking the opportunity to slip her small hand into the girl’s hair. Effortlessly, she hooked a worm out from deep within her head.
“Why did you step on my shoelace!” The girl shoved Bai Miemie away and brushed the dust off her clothes.
“I didn’t mean to.” Tears instantly welled up in Bai Miemie’s eyes. Her helpless act was so convincing that Gu Huaiwei couldn’t help but admire her acting skills.
“I saw you stick your foot out!” The girl’s thin eyebrows knitted together, her face flushed with anger. “I’m telling Xiangxiang, hmph!”
With that, the girl grabbed her two companions and stormed off.
“Your badminton racket, you forgot it…” Gu Huaiwei called out to their retreating backs, but they didn’t look back.
Once the group was gone, Bai Miemie’s tears stopped instantly.
A new worm lay in the palm of her hand.
“This one’s a female,” Bai Miemie said, holding the worm up to Gu Huaiwei like a prized treasure.
“Not bad. We’ll start a farm when we get back.” Gu Huaiwei patted Bai Miemie’s hair and placed the newly acquired fat worm into a bottle.
When the High-Cheekboned Youth kicked the ball over again, Gu Huaiwei ignored him. He ran over himself, crouched down to pick up the ball, and then grinned. “I saw Chen Liuxiang hanging out with bad people, heehee. She’s raising lots of worms. She wants to put them in everyone’s brains and make everyone’s brains break.”
Bai Miemie circled the youth twice, then ran to Gu Huaiwei’s side and tugged on her sleeve. Gu Huaiwei leaned down slightly, and Bai Miemie covered her mouth with her hand, whispering into her ear, “This boy doesn’t have a worm in his brain.”
Sometimes, the madman is the only one who is truly sane.
Gu Huaiwei glanced around to ensure no one was watching before whispering to the young man, “Where did you see this? What did Chen Liuxiang say to those bad people?”
“In a very bright room! The bad person had a round sun on their back, and there was a giant cross in the middle of the sun. I saw her in that room, holding the bad person and gnawing on them!”
The High-Cheekboned Youth gesticulated wildly, his excitement palpable.
Just then, the butler arrived.
His long, slender fingers pressed down on the High-Cheekboned Youth’s shoulder. The youth let out a pained wail and looked at the butler with terror, clutching his head. “Waaa… I didn’t say anything, please don’t hit me…”
The butler bowed politely to Gu Huaiwei. “My apologies, Miss Gu. Because this human’s Mental Value is too low, he tends to speak nonsense. Out of humanitarian spirit, the Master did not lock him up, which led to him disturbing you. Please forgive us.”
“It’s fine, he didn’t bother me.”
The butler then had other servants lead the High-Cheekboned Youth away before personally escorting Gu Huaiwei to He Jiarui’s bedroom.
He Jiarui looked much better than before. Although an IV drip was still attached to her hand, she was already able to get out of bed and move around.
Upon seeing Gu Huaiwei, she wasn’t as eager as she had been during their last meeting.
The thin He Jiarui sat on a red velvet sofa, dressed in pure white silk pajamas. Her hair hung loosely over her shoulders, the ends brushing against her pale collarbones.
“Miss Gu, thank you for coming to see me.”
“I brought some photos of new Aliens. You can take your pick.” With the one hundred thousand Magnetic Value on her mind, Gu Huaiwei sat down beside He Jiarui, scrolling through photos on her phone and introducing them one by one.
As a professional Matchmaker, Gu Huaiwei listed the pros and cons of every Alien and helped He Jiarui analyze them.
Although He Jiarui listened patiently, her reaction was exceptionally cold.
After introducing a few candidates and seeing that He Jiarui had no interest in learning more, Gu Huaiwei stopped scrolling. She asked keenly, “Are you planning to stop looking for a new partner?”
He Jiarui toyed with her hair. “No, I just haven’t seen any that are a good fit.”
Gu Huaiwei felt that He Jiarui’s state of mind was vastly different from her last visit.
Last time, she had been incredibly fragile and helpless.
This time, her mental state was much more stable.
During the subsequent introductions, Gu Huaiwei deliberately read several details from the profiles incorrectly. When He Jiarui failed to correct her, Gu Huaiwei became even more certain that He Jiarui’s heart was no longer set on finding a new Bonding partner.
If she had no intention of switching, then she was simply wasting Gu Huaiwei’s time.
Gu Huaiwei sped through the rest of the introductions. Unwilling to waste time on further small talk, she looked for an excuse to get up and leave.
But then, He Jiarui hugged a sofa cushion and said in a low, lingering voice, “Last time, you asked me if there was anything strange about Xiangxiang. I found something.”
Gu Huaiwei, who had been about to stand up, sat back down.
“What did you find?”
“Xiangxiang has bonded with many humans, but she has never let a single one of them lay eggs for her.” He Jiarui’s grip on the cushion tightened. “She doesn’t love me, and she doesn’t love anyone else either.”
