Chapter 233

Gu Huaiwei looked at the corpses floating up in the hot spring pool. “The Instance has begun.”

“It was so comfortable, too. How annoying. Sister Gu finally brought me here for a hot spring bath.” Bai Miemie escaped from the red mist, her short, curly hair plastered wetly to her cheeks from the steam.

“We can wash up back home. There are still empty Recovery Rooms at the courtyard.”

Bai Miemie was reluctant to leave. The red glow of the hot spring reflected in her eyes as she pinched her tiny hands together. “Sister Gu, how about I fish out all those corpses and throw them away, then we soak for just a teeny-tiny bit longer?”

She did not mind the corpses.

When Daddy came home from work in the past, he always carried this smell on him.

She found the scent very reassuring.

The only thing she hated was that someone had touched her little hooves in the water just now.

Her little sheep hooves were the most ticklish of all!

“The water quality has worsened.” Gu Huaiwei brushed her fingertips lightly past her nose. “The stench of rot is getting stronger. Don’t let the smell of the Instance seep into you.”

Bai Miemie gave an obedient “oh.” Though her happiness had come to a brief end, she still listened to Gu Huaiwei and used a towel of unknown origin from the locker to dry herself.

The more she wiped, the more red contamination spread across her body.

“Why won’t it come clean? The towel is clearly all white.”

“Don’t use towels from inside an Instance. They’re contaminated.” Gu Huaiwei took a fresh towel out of the Jade Bracelet and tossed it to Bai Miemie. “Use this. Wipe yourself off.”

Although the contamination had no way of harming them, the sticky feeling of it coating the body was still uncomfortable.

“Okayyy.” Bai Miemie grabbed the bath towel, which was even bigger than her entire body, and first held it to the tip of her nose to sniff. “It smells so nice. It has Sister Gu’s scent.”

“Stop right there. Acting cute is shameful.”

“But it really does smell nice.” She wrapped the bath towel around her entire body, revealing only her delicate little face and those big, blinking eyes. She looked like a piece of rice cake dipped in shredded coconut.

Gu Huaiwei turned her gaze away and stopped looking at her.

Otherwise, she would not be able to resist poking her cheeks hard.

The lockers in the basement had originally been brand-new.

But at this moment, they looked as if rust had eaten into them, turning them yellowish brown.

Three locker doors had burst open. From one of them, long black hair spilled out.

Gu Huaiwei picked up the towel from the floor and put it back into the locker it had come from.

When she opened that cabinet, a pile of things tumbled out with a clatter.

There was a schoolbag covered in unidentified excrement.

A torn-up workbook.

A school uniform covered in words like “your whole family should die,” “escort girl,” and “hot spring chicken.”

There was also a female student ID card. The face in the photo had been slashed away with a knife. The school uniform on the card was the same as the uniforms on the corpses in the water, and the words “Gray Mist University” were printed on it.

And there were a few crushed medicine boxes.

Those medicines were for treating Mist Lung Disease.

Gu Huaiwei put the bath towel Bai Miemie had taken from inside back where it belonged. The moment the towel entered the locker, it became damp, and a pale hand reached out from inside, grabbing hold of it.

Blood seeped out from the center of the towel, then flowed along the edge of the locker and spilled outward.

Clack- Gu Huaiwei shut the locker door directly, pretending she had not seen that hand.

Bai Miemie had already changed back into clean clothes. Her rectangular pupils were like freshly peeled grapes.

Her eyes could see almost a full 360 degrees.

Just now, something had crawled across the ceiling, then opened the cover of the ventilation duct above.
Gu Huaiwei had only come here for the hot spring. For now, she had no interest in wandering around this Instance.

Holding Bai Miemie’s hand, she prepared to go back the way they had come.

The door they had come down through was shut.

Gu Huaiwei tugged on it a few times, but it wouldn’t open.

She used just a little more force, and the doorknob came right off in her hand.

“Oops. Broke it.”

Bai Miemie immediately flapped those loose, baggy sleeves up and down, looking terribly worried they might be asked to pay for the damage. “Sister Gu, there’s no one here. Hurry, hide it.”

Gu Huaiwei had yanked it off fair and square in broad daylight.

But after Bai Miemie shushed her so urgently, she actually got a little nervous. She hurriedly stuffed the torn-off doorknob into a nearby vase, making the cover-up even more obvious.

Even with the lock ripped off, that door still couldn’t be pried open.

“There’s a Ventilation Duct upstairs. We can go through there.” Bai Miemie remembered where the Ventilation Duct had opened earlier.

“No need. Stand off to the side a little.”

Gu Huaiwei backed up a few steps, gathered her strength, then charged forward and kicked the door head-on.

The door really couldn’t be opened normally.

So with one kick, Gu Huaiwei knocked the entire thing down.

The door hit the floor with a thunderous boom.

“Done.” Gu Huaiwei clapped her hands. Like she was going to bother crawling through some Ventilation Duct.

Bai Miemie hopped a few times on the fallen door panel and asked in confusion, “This door is obviously so thin. Why was it wedged in so tightly just now?”

“Maybe this is the unshakable power of an Instance that Trial-taker are always talking about.”

Gu Huaiwei had sharp hearing. She could sense that after the Instance activated, some of the filthy things that had originally been lingering in the basement were quietly retreating.

“Let’s go. Time to head home, before some weird thing crawls out and makes us pay for this.”

After finishing her vandalism, Gu Huaiwei quickly left.

They walked back up the marble-tiled stairs. The scene inside Hot Spring Mansion was completely different from when they had come down.

On the way down, the whole Hot Spring Mansion had felt gray and hazy.

But now, on the way back, the air was filled with the smell of rot and rust, like scrap iron that had soaked in water until it rusted through, decaying from the inside out.

When they reached the main entrance, Gu Huaiwei came face-to-face with the group of Trial-taker who had just entered the Instance.

There were three people on the other side, all wearing the same style of school uniform as the female corpse in the basement.

Outside Hot Spring Mansion, a school bus was parked as well.

The three Trial-taker felt a simultaneous surge of terror when they saw Gu Huaiwei. They took Gu Huaiwei and Bai Miemie for Anomaly inside the Instance, and their feet seemed nailed to the floor, not daring to make a single reckless move.

“Hello,” Gu Huaiwei greeted them in a friendly tone.

The air froze for several seconds.

No one dared to answer her.

Fine. These people had started misunderstanding again.

Gu Huaiwei didn’t explain. She took out a flyer.

Their breathing stopped.

Gu Huaiwei smiled and walked toward them.

They suppressed the urge to run, their hearts pounding so hard they nearly leaped out of their chests.

Gu Huaiwei stuffed the flyers into their hands.

They nervously lowered their heads and carefully read the advertisement on the flyer, mobilizing every brain cell they had to memorize every single word on it.

They searched the ad for Rules.

Then they read it horizontally, vertically, from top to bottom and bottom to top, only to conclude that this whole block of text had absolutely nothing to do with any Rules.

Gu Huaiwei sighed. “Don’t be nervous. I only came in to hand out some ads.”

The Trial-taker looked as if they were facing a mortal enemy. No one believed a word of that.

Instead, one old man among the Trial-taker pointed at the medical services listed on the flyer and asked, “Can you really perform heart bypass surgery?”
