Chapter 271

“Why?” Gu Huaiwei still didn’t want to leave the lab building just yet.

Bai Yuzhen explained hurriedly, “As a student, I have to be back in the dorm by 9:10 p.m.

All the clocks in the school are messed up. Only the Bell Toll from outside the campus is accurate.

Every time the Bell Toll rings, it means an hour has passed.

It should already be 9:00 now. According to the Rules, I need to head to the girls’ dorm immediately, or I’ll definitely die.”

The time on Bai Yuzhen’s phone showed only 8:00.

But the time on Gu Huaiwei’s phone was an accurate 9:00.

Gu Huaiwei still needed Bai Yuzhen’s help, so she couldn’t let her die yet.

“Fine. We’ll talk on the way.”

The two of them hid Fang Zhao in a cabinet in the Lab Equipment Room.

Gu Huaiwei took a quilt out of the Jade Bracelet and wrapped him up completely.

They planned to come back the next day.

On the way back to the girls’ dorm, Gu Huaiwei explained her terms to Bai Yuzhen.

Gu Huaiwei was willing to pay a considerable amount of Lifespan upfront, and after the Oasis Sanatorium completed its upgrade, she would also give Bai Yuzhen a portion of her own dividends as security for her continued survival in this Dimension.

After hearing her out, Bai Yuzhen fell silent for a moment before saying, “Shopkeeper Gu, I’m sorry, but I can’t take that risk. Contamination is irreversible. I don’t want to earn money only to die before I can spend it.”

The terms really were tempting, but Bai Yuzhen still chose to be cautious.

“Okay then. That’s too bad.” Gu Huaiwei didn’t push. She planned to ask someone else instead.

The two of them returned to the girls’ dorm.

They had been running the whole way, and by the time they reached the entrance, it was exactly 9:10.

The Fat Dorm Matron was just about to lock the door.

When she saw Gu Huaiwei and Bai Yuzhen running over, a sinister smile spread across her face.

Bai Yuzhen was still a few steps away from the entrance.

“This is bad. Just a little short. I won’t make it in time.” Cold sweat broke out on Bai Yuzhen’s forehead.

“You’ll make it.” Gu Huaiwei grabbed Bai Yuzhen from behind and threw her straight inside.

Right on the cutoff, Bai Yuzhen crashed into the first-floor Corridor of the girls’ dorm.

An unwilling look appeared on the Fat Dorm Matron’s face.

She glared at Bai Yuzhen viciously.

Then she started locking the door.

Gu Huaiwei still hadn’t gone in.

She blocked the gap in the door with her hand. The Fat Dorm Matron struggled against her, but she was no match for Gu Huaiwei’s strength. The door creaked under the force as Gu Huaiwei pried it open and squeezed inside. Lin She followed close behind and walked right in openly.

“This is the girls’ dorm. Boys aren’t allowed inside.” The Fat Dorm Matron pulled a bloodstained spiked club out of a drawer and blocked Lin She’s path.

Lin She looked at the dorm matron expressionlessly.

He was waiting for Gu Huaiwei’s orders.

Or perhaps, in some dark corner where Gu Huaiwei couldn’t see, he would quietly deal with the people interfering with his work.

Gu Huaiwei had originally been planning to tie up the troublesome Fat Dorm Matron in front of her and smash her head in with that spiked club.

After everything that had happened earlier, Bai Yuzhen had obviously guessed what Gu Huaiwei was thinking. She softly reminded her from the side, “Shopkeeper Gu, we need the dorm matron to take us to the dorm room.”

In other words, if Gu Huaiwei beat up the dorm matron, they wouldn’t be able to find the correct room, and Bai Yuzhen would die for breaking the Rules.

What a pain.

Gu Huaiwei had no choice but to inconvenience Lin She for now.

She said, “Lin She, wait for me by the flower bed behind the dorm.”

Lin She nodded and said nothing. He simply turned and left. In any case, he had his own way of climbing in from the outer wall by following the pipes into the girls’ dorm.
When the Fat Dorm Matron saw Lin She leave, she pulled out the registration book and looked at Gu Huaiwei. “Your name isn’t on the student roster, and there isn’t a bed assigned to you in the dorms.”

Gu Huaiwei pointed at Bai Yuzhen beside her. “I can just stay in the same room as her.”

The Fat Dorm Matron refused without hesitation. “Friends are not allowed into the girls’ dormitory at night.”

With a smile, Gu Huaiwei took out a sheet of Yellow Paper with Lifespan written on it and asked, “No exceptions?”

The Fat Dorm Matron didn’t take it. Instead, she turned to stare at Bai Yuzhen with widened eyes, her voice dropping even lower. “Is she the friend you brought back?”

Sensing the danger, Bai Yuzhen took a step back and flatly denied it. “N-no.”

The Fat Dorm Matron nodded and said to Bai Yuzhen, “Then come with me.”

Then, with practiced ease, she plucked the Yellow Paper with Lifespan written on it from Gu Huaiwei’s hand, slipped it into her pocket, pretended not to see her, and led Bai Yuzhen toward the dormitory.

Gu Huaiwei looked at her now-empty hand.

She had honestly thought the Fat Dorm Matron was above compromising for such a small gain.

Led by the Fat Dorm Matron, they arrived at Girls Dormitory 404.

Every floor they passed was quiet.

The dormitory was unlit.

The Corridor lights on the first floor were green, the Corridor lights on the second floor were red, the Corridor lights on the third floor were green, and by the time they reached the fourth floor where they would be staying, the entire Corridor was drenched in red light.

“We’re here.”

Before leaving, the Fat Dorm Matron cast Gu Huaiwei a seemingly casual glance. “There’s only one empty bed left in the dorm. Other teachers will be coming around tonight to inspect the rooms.”

As the saying went, if you take someone’s money, you help them deal with their troubles.

The Fat Dorm Matron was extremely professional. After taking Gu Huaiwei’s Yellow Paper, she gave her the friendliest smile she could manage before leaving, though it still looked thoroughly ill-intentioned, and subtly reminded Gu Huaiwei that students had to sleep in their assigned beds.

The Rules were posted on the door to Girls Dormitory 404.

Once the Fat Dorm Matron had left, Bai Yuzhen finally let out a long breath.

She pressed a hand to her chest, worried that Gu Huaiwei might be upset about what she had done just now, and explained, “Shopkeeper Gu, I didn’t dare say you were my friend because the Rules don’t allow anyone to bring other people into their dorm room at night.
You bribed the Fat Dorm Matron, so she turned a blind eye and let you come up here, but there aren’t any extra bed assignments in this dorm. How are you going to handle the bed check tonight?”

“Just follow the Rules yourself. Don’t worry about me.” Gu Huaiwei felt more like an NPC drifting through the Instance.

“Then take care of yourself.”

Bai Yuzhen pushed open the door and entered the dorm room.

Inside, it was pitch-black.

The Rules posted outside had said, “After 9 p.m., the lights must not be turned on.”

Bai Yuzhen fumbled around in the dark for her bed.

Gu Huaiwei’s senses had been enhanced, so even in the dark, she could clearly see the room’s layout.

It was a four-person dorm room, with two empty beds.

Each bed had the corresponding student’s name posted on it.

Bai Yuzhen felt her way to Bed No. 1. The sheet felt damp and sticky to the touch, and seeing that the bed was empty, she started to climb up.

Gu Huaiwei warned her, “That’s not right. Your bed is the one by the balcony, not this one.”

Only then did Bai Yuzhen realize that the damp, sticky feeling on Bed No. 1 was blood.
