Disciple, Behave Yourself! - Chapter 3
After dinner, I stayed in the bamboo house beside my master’s courtyard.
The disciples were long accustomed to this.
Ji Jiaojiao, however, brought a pile of food over, supposedly to thank me.
After setting it down, she turned a thoroughly probing gaze on me.
I found that look extremely irritating.
Suppressing my agitation, I asked pleasantly, “Is there something you need, Miss Ji?”
She lowered her head shyly. “It’s just that you seem different from the rumors, Young Master Chi.”
I nodded. “Rumors tend to exaggerate. That’s only natural.”
Some time passed, but she showed no sign of leaving.
“Was there anything else, Miss Ji?”
Ji Jiaojiao faltered. “Don’t you want to know what the rumors say about you?”
“Oh, I see.” I gave a derisive little laugh. “I don’t care what other people say. They’re free to say what they like. Rather than wasting your breath on this, Miss Ji, you might consider whether you’re going to attend the selection ceremony or find somewhere else to go.”
“Thank you for your advice, Young Master Chi. I’ll keep it in mind.”
Ji Jiaojiao suddenly smiled sweetly and blew a breath toward me.
I narrowed my eyes.
The Hehuan Sect’s Beguilement Art. A technique used specifically on men to drain their yang and replenish a woman’s yin.
Once they slept together, the man would become hopelessly infatuated with the heroine.
And once the woman had absorbed all his yang energy and spiritual power, he would be reduced to a useless wreck.
So she was going to try it on me?
In the original novel, Chi Yuchu had fallen in love with Ji Jiaojiao at first sight. He would accept no one else.
For her, he had even cast aside years of attachment to his master and harmed him.
Had it really been love at first sight?
My head began to swim.
“Young Master Chi, are you feeling unwell?”
Ji Jiaojiao gently took my hand. An eerie gleam flashed through her dark eyes.
“Everyone says the Xuanmen Sect’s eldest disciple, Chi Yuchu, is a fine-looking man and a candidate to become its next sect leader. Quite a few female cultivators out there admire you. Forgive me for asking, but do you have a cultivation partner?”
“Not yet,” I said with a cold smile.
“Then… might I have that honor? All you have to do is say yes, and I’ll be yours tonight.”
She slipped halfway out of her clothes, her face flushed and her heart racing, her eyes soft and inviting.
At a glance, she seemed ready to let me do anything I pleased.
As she drew closer, my blood seemed to freeze. I held my breath.
And started counting down…
Five… four… three… two…
“What are you doing?”
The front door was kicked violently open. My master stood in the doorway, his face thunderous.
His expression was so dark it might have dripped ink.
He shoved me aside and strode furiously up to Ji Jiaojiao. “Have you forgotten what you promised me the day I rescued you from the Hehuan Sect? How can you debase yourself like this? What would your late parents think?”
Tears misted Ji Jiaojiao’s eyes. “N-no, Immortal Master. I only came to bring Young Master Chi some food, to thank him for finding me a place to stay. I don’t know why he would do this to me.”
“You don’t know? I saw perfectly well what you were doing to Yuchu!”
“So that’s the sort of person you think I am? I thought I was different to you. But in your eyes, I’m no different from those people after all.”
Ji Jiaojiao burst into tears.
My master’s face grew uglier than ever.
I pointed up at the rafters and raised an eyebrow. “There’s a Tongyou Mirror hanging up there.”
Ji Jiaojiao froze. She looked up, her face turning deathly pale.
Her little scheme had backfired spectacularly.
How laughable.
Normally, I shared my master’s bedroom. But every day after dinner, I spent two hours in the bamboo house dealing with sect affairs.
So that my master could see what I was doing whenever he wished, I’d deliberately installed a Tongyou Mirror in the room.
He’d known the moment Ji Jiaojiao arrived.
I’d played along with her for two reasons. First, to see what she was planning. Second, to use her to make my master a little jealous.
He had only himself to blame. Apart from what we did in bed, he generally couldn’t be bothered with me.
As though I were a tool he could discard after use, rather than the man who shared his pillow. Even the dog at the mountain gate could get more of his attention.
I reached for his hand. “Don’t be angry, Master. What if you make yourself ill?”
He shot me an icy look and turned his anger on me.
“She brings you food, and you simply accept it? Since when have you been so obliging?”
“Has all that cultivation gone to waste? A cultivator at the peak of the Nascent Soul stage who can’t even break a paltry Beguilement Art! You’ve disgraced me!”
I, the victim, now inexplicably being scolded: What?
Ah. Yes, yes. Quite right.
You could smell that jealousy for miles!
Still, I had to admit it had a certain charm.
I chuckled, my gaze darkening.
“You only have yourself to blame for raising me so well, Master. Naturally, girls take an interest. And since I haven’t married, whatever Miss Ji does to me is between her and me.”
My master said nothing. His hand simply clenched tight.
Hm? Was he really angry?
Perhaps I should soothe him a little.
I immobilized Ji Jiaojiao, then leaned forward. Under her horrified gaze, I locked an arm around my master’s waist and committed the ultimate act of insubordination: I bit his lips.
“Chi Yuchu, you—mmph…”
My kiss was tender and scorching.
The harder he struggled, the tighter I held him.
I kept him trapped in my arms, possessively.
Ji Jiaojiao’s eyes went round as bells at the sight.
I gave her a challenging look.
How drunk would she have to be to think she could have my man?
Ji Jiaojiao, Wang Jiaojiao—her name made no difference.
My master belonged to me, and I belonged to him.
Heroine or supporting character, she was never to set her sights on either of us.
Or even if I had to tear the heavens apart, I’d make her understand the price of crossing me!
My master sagged against me, breathless and limp, his face so red it could almost have bled.
“Enough!”
I glanced at his flushed face and laughed softly.
“But my heart already belongs to someone. I appreciate the offer, Miss Ji.”
My master glared at me. The look set me burning.
Suppressing my desire, I leaned to his ear. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m afraid I won’t be able to help myself.”
He shoved me away and left without looking back, his steps unsteady.
I turned to Ji Jiaojiao.
“Your turn.”
