Chapter 80

Lu Yichen’s phone chimed with another message notification at that precise, subtle moment, causing Gu Xiaonuan’s expression to darken further.

She didn’t want to hurt him, so she spoke again. “Let me go first.”

Lu Yichen said, “Alright,” and Gu Xiaonuan walked away quickly without giving him a second glance.

She couldn’t quite describe her current state of mind. She just wanted to leave as fast as possible; she didn’t want to hear his phone notifications, not even once.

It got to the point where, before she had even left the campus grounds, she used her Blood Clan ability in a deserted area and took flight.

Lu Yichen looked up, watching the small black dot rapidly receding into the distant sky, and smiled as he tapped his phone screen.

It was the same studious junior from before. She had sent a very cute emoji.

In a complete reversal of the frequency with which he had replied in front of Gu Xiaonuan, Lu Yichen simply pressed the power button. On the screen that instantly went black, his handsome face was reflected, wearing a lingering smile.

Compared to five years ago, she finally had some emotional fluctuations regarding him.

Very good, Xiaonuan. Just like that, step by step, come closer to me.

Gu Xiaonuan rushed back to her room and curled up on the sofa, completely failing to understand the emotions that had just surfaced within her.

What was wrong with her? Given her current age and status, she shouldn’t have any intersection with Lu Yichen at all.

She didn’t want to drag him into her world again; he should live his own life.

That junior who kept messaging him clearly liked him.

Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly. He hadn’t seemed to mind talking to that junior, either. If they could form a human bond… there would be nothing wrong with that.

Gu Xiaonuan stared blankly at her own pale palms until the sound of the door opening next door signaled that Lu Yichen was back.

Checking the time, she realized she had been sitting on the sofa in a daze for several hours.

A message arrived; it was from Lu Yichen.

“Teacher Gu, thank you for today. Do you have time later? I’ll cook and treat you to dinner.”

She looked at his profile picture on the phone; it was also a cartoon.

“No thanks, I’m not hungry.”

Gu Xiaonuan replied, and another message came back almost immediately.

“I see. Then I’ll make a portion for you. You can put it in the fridge and eat it tomorrow.”

Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly, her fingers tapping quickly. “Really, there’s no need. Besides, I was the one who suggested it. I’m just glad I could help you.”

“Alright, then I won’t disturb your rest, Teacher Gu.”

After that, Lu Yichen sent no more messages. Soon, the aroma of cooking wafted from the room next door.

Gu Xiaonuan opened her phone and scrolled through the Forum. Sure enough, posts about him had appeared again, but this time they were all talking about her-Lu Yichen’s girlfriend.

Reading the comments, Gu Xiaonuan couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. The effect was indeed good; now everyone believed he had a girlfriend, a genuine one.

The door next door opened, and Lu Yichen walked out.

“Is that so? To think you have such an insight. Do you have any other thoughts?”

“Senior, do you think so too? Many historical records describe this powerful official as…”

He was on a call with that studious junior.

The fangs in Gu Xiaonuan’s mouth began to poke out slightly. An inexplicable thirst made her incredibly restless.

The cross-shaped mark on her neck faintly emerged, and the chains upon it began to move slowly, crawling over the mark like red snakes.

Gu Xiaonuan buried her head in her knees in pain. Her fangs were bared from her gums, and it seemed as though she couldn’t retract them no matter what she did.

“Senior, it seems there are relevant books in the Ancient Texts Room, but I don’t have borrowing privileges.”

“Is that so? Then I’ll go and ask about it.”

“That’s great! If you can borrow them, Senior, could you let me take a look too?”

“If I can get them, sure. But you must be very careful when you’re reading through them.”
“I won’t borrow it and take it away. I can just read it with you in the library, Senior!”

Lu Yichen gave a light chuckle. “If there’s time for that.”

Gu Xiaonuan heard the sound of his door closing, and his voice was soon muffled behind the door next door.

If he could be with this junior, without her, it would probably be more natural.

Gu Xiaonuan buried her entire body into the sofa. Her fangs were no longer as weak as they had been five years ago; they had grown a bit.

However, no matter how sharp her fangs were, they held no meaning for her.

Time to sleep… Once she fell asleep, the hunger would pass.

In the pitch-black living room, the only sound was the ticking of the second hand. Gu Xiaonuan’s small figure curled up on the sofa as she sank into a self-imposed deep sleep.

A figure opened the door and walked to her side.

Lu Yichen, wearing a faint smile, sat down beside her. The sofa dipped under his weight.

Gu Xiaonuan’s head was tilted toward him, her black hair splayed out around her.

Warm fingertips brushed her hair aside, sliding onto her neck to trace the Cross Mark gently.

Seeing the fangs faintly visible in her mouth, the smile in Lu Yichen’s eyes deepened.

He used a finger to pry open her soft lips and reached inside.

Finding her fangs, he pressed down with force, letting the sharp point pierce his fingertip.

Warm blood flowed into her mouth. Gu Xiaonuan’s eyes snapped open from the stimulation, but a hand reached over and covered them.

The wounded finger was withdrawn from her mouth, and another arm pulled her into an embrace from behind.

Warm lips pressed down.

Together, he and she tasted the flavor of the blood in her mouth.

Gu Xiaonuan was kissed until she was a little breathless. The hand pressed over her eyes was burning hot. Lu Yichen, is it you…?

Is this another dream?

Her cold hand reached for his warm body, feeling for the place where his heart beat.

The lips pressing against hers refused to pull away. Gu Xiaonuan let out a whimper and hugged him tightly.

In the dark of the night, Lu Yichen’s eyes shimmered.

He looked at the trembling little Vampire in his arms as she clung to him. He deepened the kiss, his hand cradling the back of her head to press her firmly against himself.

Tick, tick, tick.

The second hand continued its rotation. Gu Xiaonuan slowly woke up; it was four in the morning.

The room was silent. She looked at the space beside the sofa; there was no sign that anyone had been there.

She sat blankly on the sofa, the crimson tint in her eyes gradually fading away.

Perhaps it was because this current Lu Yichen had appeared, but her dreams were becoming more frequent.

Gu Xiaonuan reached up to steady her forehead. How long would these dreams last in her long life?

Another five years, or countless five-year cycles?

Gu Xiaonuan stood by the window, looking out at the city still immersed in slumber. She couldn’t help but glance toward the side.

Perhaps driven by the dream, or perhaps by some lingering impulse.

Gu Xiaonuan leaped out of the window and arrived next door.

She stood outside Lu Yichen’s window, watching him as he slept soundly on the bed.

The Lu Yichen of the past couldn’t sleep without medication if she wasn’t there; he had never slept this peacefully.

He hadn’t drawn the curtains, nor had he closed the window.

Gu Xiaonuan frowned slightly. If she didn’t know he hadn’t done it on purpose, this would practically be a silent invitation.

He shifted slightly on the bed, rolling over toward her.

Gu Xiaonuan quickly slipped back to her own room, acting like a thief.

Lu Yichen, having turned over, watched her fleeing figure with a slight curl of his lips. It seemed he was right to insist on sleeping naked.
