Chapter 1

I had been pulled into a horror game.

More precisely, my roommates and I had been pulled into it together.

While everyone was consumed by fear and anxiety, blood-red words appeared in the sky:

[Congratulations to the eight players who have entered the horror game Forty-Nine Nights!]

[Game Objective: Survive until the final night.]

[Game Rules: Within forty-nine days, one player must be killed every seven days to appease the monster’s wrath. Otherwise, the monster will continue attacking the players. Attention-all players who die will lose their lives permanently.]

[The game officially begins!]

The most timid of us, Chu Su, burst into tears.

“One person dies every seven days. That means only one of us can survive! Jiang Yuan, you’ve ruined us! Sob, sob…”

I analyzed the situation calmly.

“The rules only say that we’ll be attacked by the monster if no one offers up their life. They don’t say we’ll die. As long as we stick together, hide from it, and make it through the forty-nine days, we’ll be able to leave.”

Streamer Girl fiddled with her phone, her long, ornate nails tapping against it.

She clicked her tongue and cursed.

“Tsk, of course it’s easy for the culprit to say that! There’s not even a network in this godforsaken place. How am I supposed to send my top donor good morning and good night messages?!”

Eye-Rolling Girl rolled her eyes as well. “Exactly!”

Xu Yueyue pointed straight at me and launched into a furious tirade.

“Jiang Yuan, if you hadn’t stopped me from eating hot pot in bed, would I have spilled soup into the power strip and electrocuted everyone in the dorm? You psycho!”

I clenched my teeth and retorted, “The school expressly forbids using hot pots in the dorms. You not only used one, you carried it onto your bed to eat. How is spilling soup and causing an electric shock my fault?”

The Short-Haired Dorm Head shot me a vicious glare.

“Stop arguing! This place is terrifying. Instead of wasting time fighting among ourselves, why don’t we think about how we’re going to survive?”

She had always been like this.

When Xu Yueyue got people to bully and insult me, she stayed silent as a corpse. But the moment I fought back, she would start throwing around her authority as dorm head to suppress me.

Suddenly, someone let out a scream.

“A ghost!”

Everyone erupted into panicked screams and began fleeing in all directions.

“Aaaaaah!”

We were in an ancient, gloomy medieval castle, shrouded in darkness.

I could only feel my way around by the light of my phone.

As I ran, I suddenly came face-to-face with a blood-soaked visage.

Horror and terror seized me.

Then a familiar feeling surged through me.

The blood-faced woman opened her cavernous mouth. The next moment, she was about to swallow my head whole.

The familiar scent of roses filled my nose.

I called out to her, “Xiangxiang?”

The White-Clad Blood-Faced Woman froze in a bizarre position. The blood on her face twisted, and an excited “huh-huh” sound came from her mouth.

I was stunned for a moment, then my eyes lit up.

This really was the horror novel I had written when I was a child!

I used my pocketknife to cut off a little of my hair for her to eat, then reached out and patted her head. “Xiangxiang, take me to a safe room.”

She became very obedient.

In this novel, the NPCs each had different food preferences.

The blood-faced woman liked eating hair.

I had written this novel in my first year of middle school. Nearly ten years had passed, but I still remembered some of the characters’ settings.

Still, using that knowledge was no guarantee of survival.

The best option was to find the monster boss…

As long as I stayed close to the boss and earned his trust, the other aggressive monsters wouldn’t dare approach me…

A sharp scream rang out from the end of the corridor.

It was accompanied by the sound of a chainsaw and terrifying roars.

By the time I rushed over, the timid Chu Su had already lost one finger to the chainsaw.

She crawled toward me, leaving a bloody trail behind her.

I quickly pulled out a laser pointer and shone it directly into the monster’s artificial eye.

“Roar!”

Enraged, he covered his eye and crashed blindly into everything around him.

I took the opportunity to drag Chu Su out of the room, then found some medicine and bandages to treat her wound.

She was trembling violently, sobbing so hard she could barely speak.

“Jiang Yuan, they all abandoned me… Why did you save me? I blamed you not long ago…”

“Half a year ago, when Xu Yueyue had someone hold my head underwater until I was suffocating, you called for emergency help. You almost became her next target for ostracization because of it.”

I looked at her gently.

What I didn’t say was that she was one of the few sources of light in my university life.

At that moment,

the monster’s savage roar came from just outside the door.

It had caught up with us!

I pulled Chu Su into the wardrobe and hid there with her.

After a barrage of kicks and punches, the terrifying sound of a chainsaw rang out again as it began madly cutting through the door.

The laser pointer had run out of power!

Panic seized me in an instant.

The chainsaw had already cut through the door.

The monster entered the room and began hacking wildly in every direction with the chainsaw.

“Sob, sob…”

Chu Su bit down hard on her lower lip. Her face had gone deathly pale with fright, but she couldn’t stop herself from making a sound.

Suddenly,

the Chainsaw Maniac began walking toward the wardrobe.

Closer and closer, he came!

My heartbeat stopped.
