Chapter 3

I fainted in satisfaction.

But when I woke up again, I changed my mind.

Jiang Zhizhou was upright and stubborn by nature. Once he made up his mind about something, he rarely changed it.

For now, I might be able to muddle through on his willingness to indulge me.

But the hidden danger of this unresolved conflict would not simply vanish into thin air.

The butterfly of youth had already flapped its wings.

In the future, at some point I failed to notice,

some trivial little thing would trigger it with ease,

carving an even deeper divide into both our hearts.

And I absolutely could not allow that to happen.

So what should I do?

I leaned against the headboard and thought it over carefully for a while.

Perhaps I could stage an accident and break Jiang Zhizhou’s leg.

Or I could speak to the school volleyball team in advance and have them reject Jiang Zhizhou with any random excuse.

But neither of those methods would solve the problem once and for all.

Besides, my resources were limited at the moment. I might not be able to make everything perfectly seamless.

The risk of exposure was extremely high.

And the consequences of being exposed were more than I could bear.

Should I compromise after all?

Or perhaps retreat in order to advance.

Make sure every choice he made had to revolve around me.

Wasn’t it just volleyball?

I found him the best coach.

I assembled an exclusive training team for him.

I funded the team’s overseas training season, regular intensive physical conditioning camps, and qualifications for international friendly matches.

In exchange,

Jiang Zhizhou could not leave my sight outside of volleyball training.

He had to be home by ten o’clock every night, without fail.

He had to wear the monitoring bracelet I had customized for him.

It allowed me to know his location, movements, heart rate, and body temperature anytime, anywhere.

No matter when or where he was, he had to report his whereabouts every half hour.

Even in the middle of training, he had to reply to my messages instantly.

More importantly, he needed to prove to me

that he belonged to me.

On the second day after I turned eighteen, I dragged him into bed.

After that, I became even more willful.

When I visited the volleyball team, in the equipment room.

In the locker room after everyone else had left.

When he came to my company, in the lounge, in the corridor.

Under my desk.

In every corner of our home.

Ambiguous traces were left everywhere.

Life felt like heaven.

“Jiang Zhizhou, Jiang Zhizhou, I like you so much.”

In the study at home, I came back to myself from that near-death haze.

I grabbed his hair, pulled him up, and nuzzled his face.

In a muffled voice, I murmured sweet nothings.

“Good baby. Let me kiss you a little longer.”

Jiang Zhizhou’s face was so red it was almost glowing.

His chest rose and fell as he whispered,

“Don’t leave marks. I still have training tomorrow.”

Smack.

A slap landed on his face.

“At a time like this, you’re still thinking about other people? You can only think about me!”

“Every inch of you belongs to me. So what if I leave marks? Just tell everyone that you belong to me!”

Jiang Zhizhou froze.

His brown hair fell over his brows and eyes.

All that remained visible was the high bridge of his nose, glistening with a sheen of moisture.

His thick lashes cast butterfly shadows across his cheeks, fluttering with every blink.

I loved him so much I could hardly stand it.

I held his face and kissed him again, murmuring,

“Think of me. Jiang Zhizhou, say my name. Repeat after me.”

Fu Li.

Jiang Zhizhou belongs to Fu Li.

Jiang Zhizhou is Fu Li’s puppy.

Jiang Zhizhou murmured after me, repeating every word.

I thought we would always be like this.

Until today, when he said,

“I hate you.”
