Summary
The gaokao is supposed to decide my future. But when three proctors in white enter the exam room, each has an extra eye. Red writing appears on my paper: never write a Chinese essay in daylight, never answer English after dark, and never refuse a devil’s demands. Everyone else seems perfectly calm. Then my classmates begin to grow wings, and a kindly voice broadcasts a second set of rules that contradicts the first. With every choice changing what I see, I must work out whom to trust—and what happens to the students who refuse to obey.
