Ginseng's Path to Immortality - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Linxian City really was full of people, and they really were very kind.
The old lady next door would help me sew my robes after I crawled out of the dirt.
The children at the street corner would share their candies with me after we finished playing in the mud together.
There were even many young men who gave me flowers… though Huo Langxing didn’t like that. He would always return the flowers with a cold expression on his face.
But as good as Linxian City was, it always felt gray and gloomy, making me feel uneasy all over.
“Benefactor, this city isn’t very good.”
It was like a sick tree-lush and leafy on the outside, but already rotten to the core on the inside, while the people living within the tree remained completely oblivious.
I didn’t explain it very clearly, but Huo Langxing seemed to understand.
“Shen Shen, once I’ve eliminated the villains, Linxian City will get better.”
“Stay here for the next few days. I’ll send people to protect you.”
Huo Langxing became very busy. I secretly followed him a few times.
He seemed to be planning a siege on the City Lord’s Mansion?
I didn’t really understand.
That day, I was rolling around on the empty patch of ground in front of the house.
There was far too little soil in the city; otherwise, I wouldn’t be competing with the grass for nutrients.
A pair of snow-white embroidered shoes stopped beside my head, and I immediately sat up.
The newcomer was a young girl dressed entirely in white. Her eyes were full of disdain as she looked at me.
“You’re the woman General Huo brought back? How filthy.”
I looked down at my small, mud-stained hands. Filthy? Then I’ll just wipe them.
I reached out and wiped my hands directly on her white skirt.
The next moment, the girl let out a piercing shriek.
“Aaaaaah! You actually dared to wipe your hands on my skirt! Do you believe I’ll have my father kill you?”
My ears were ringing from her shouting, so I couldn’t hear a word she said. However, the maidservant following behind her stepped forward, grabbed a handful of mud, and threw it at me.
“Our young lady is the City Lord’s only daughter. Have you gone mad?”
Mud! It smelled so good!
In our world of nature, only the best of friends share soil with each other.
They must like me very much to throw mud at me!
I had to return the favor!
I rolled up my sleeves and started digging, packing the dirt into balls and hurling them at the two girls.
At first, they seemed to want to continue liking me, but they were too slow. They were quickly smothered by my enthusiasm.
I thought they would be happy, but instead, the two of them ran away crying.
“You wench! I’m not finished with you!”
The girl was still screaming as she left, leaving me somewhat confused.
Ginseng becomes more valuable the older it gets. Are humans the opposite-the prettier they are, the cheaper they become?
Otherwise, why would she call me a wench?
