Half White Moonlight Script - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
From Xu Luo’s mouth, I learned about my absolutely preposterous life story.
It went something like this:
Xu Luo and I were twins. She was born with a frail constitution and was unable to cultivate. Although I left her to join Jianmen to pursue the path of immortality, I never gave up on her, constantly providing her with various Heavenly Spirit Earthly Treasures to sustain her. A thousand years ago, when the Demon Tide arrived, I resolved to sacrifice myself, thus entrusting her to the sect.
“I never imagined that this parting would be forever.” Xu Luo wiped away a tear.
It was a well-reasoned, perfectly logical story.
If I weren’t an orphan, I might have actually believed it.
To evade Yuan Yuan, Xu Luo took me and fled across the land.
Eventually, she stopped at a small village in the wasteland. A thousand years ago, this place had been the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, filled with smoke and the fires of war; now, however, wisps of cooking smoke curled peacefully into the air.
Xu Luo had clearly been here before, as she greeted the local demons with practiced familiarity.
She nervously observed my expression.
A skeleton has no expression.
She gave up. “Sister, the villagers here are all immortal-demon hybrids. They aren’t wicked people, so please don’t hate them.”
She carried me on her back into a courtyard. The residents here were all young children. Seeing a talking skeleton, they weren’t even afraid; instead, they all gathered around curiously.
They chirped with questions: “If a skeleton drinks soup, will it leak out of her jaw?”
“Skeletons don’t need to eat or drink.”
“How does a skeleton see the road?”
“By using divine sense.”
“Wow!” The children’s mouths hung open in surprise. “Sister Ah Luo! This is a celestial skeleton!”
I soon understood why they were so bold.
The demon hybrids in this village were a rather haphazard lot. Merfolk with human torsos and fish tails are common, but this was the first time I had ever seen “fish-men” with fish bodies and human legs running about.
Among the children living together, some had flowers blooming on their faces, some had a ring of tentacles around their waists, and one even had a human head on a tree-trunk body, needing help to pull its roots out of the ground every time it wanted to take a step…
Looking at it that way, my human skeleton was actually quite refined and handsome.
Xu Luo said we would rest here for a few days while she went to find a Bone-Growing Flower.
She gently touched my cheekbone. “Sister will soon return to her former appearance.”
She was truly devoted to me, slathering all sorts of ointments on my body as if they cost nothing, polishing me until I was sleek and shiny. She even insisted I sunbathe for an hour every day, claiming it would prevent something called “osteoporosis.”
She always had many strange words and theories.
Half a month later, she actually brought me a Bone-Growing Flower.
Rumor had it that a Bone-Growing Flower required a thousand years of nourishment from the heart’s blood of Demon Royalty to grow. It possessed the miraculous effect of bringing the dead back to life and regrowing flesh on bone.
Even I had never seen such a precious treasure before.
“How did you get this?” I asked.
She stammered and dodged the question.
With my soul acting as a guide, the Bone-Growing Flower quickly gifted me with flesh and blood once more.
Xu Luo nuzzled against my face affectionately. “Beautiful sister, let’s cuddle!”
A water mirror reflected my features. The person in the mirror had raven hair and snow-white skin, looking exactly as I did a thousand years ago. Standing next to her, we truly did look like twins.
I patted her head and gave up on questioning her.
After spending this time together, I was certain she was a girl of pure and kind heart. Moreover, I owed her a debt of gratitude.
From now on, it would be as she said: we were sisters.
Since she was my dear sister…
I glanced at the sword Xu Luo had tossed into a corner to gather dust ever since we arrived at the village, and I let out a smile.
